Detailed switch-level models of high-pulse-count converters are relatively straightforward to implement using commonly available simulation packages used for digital time-domain simulations and studying of power systems transients. However, such models are computationally intensive due to switching, and could become the bottle-neck for system-level studies with large number of components and controllers. This paper describes approaches for developing dynamic average-value models, i.e., the analytical derivations and parametric modeling. The resulting approximate models do not represent switching but still capture the transient behavior of the original converter circuit. The paper presents the results for 3- and 6-phase rectifiers implemented in PSCAD/EMTDC and Matlab/Simulink and shows that dynamic average models can be very effective. The paper also shows that as the number of pulses/phases increases, so does the complexity of switching pattern that defines the operating modes. ©2009 IEEE.

The combination of Chest X-Ray imaging and Artificial Intelligence (AI) has proven its efficiency in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) detection [1]. The present paper proposes an efficient COVID-19 detection system based on a new textural features descriptor: Monogenic Local Binary Pattern Variance (MLBPV). An Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model is used for Regions Of Interest (ROIs) classification. Evaluating MLBPV, it outperforms other tested models by achieving an Area Under Curve $(A_{z})$ of 0.96263 and an accuracy of 99.9805%. Comparing our method with previous ones proves that ours provides the best performance. This model may be implemented in digital X-Ray machine for radiography and help radiologists.

Pulsewidth-constrained signals are developed for use on the degraded direct-detection optical channel. A two-dimensional representation for these signals is obtained and used to design a trellis-coded-modulation (TCM) system for use on the optical channel. The theoretical advantage of optical TCM is shown, through use of the cutoff rate, to range from 7.5 to 9 dB, depending on the throughput rate of the system. The practical potential is shown, through the actual design of a TCM system, to be as high as 6.7 dB.< >

In this work we investigate the problem of detection and location of single and unlinked multiple pattern sensitive faults in bit oriented RAMs and implementation of a built-in self-test (BIST) unit to test RAM chips in an efficient manner. Our fault model covers cross-talks between any k cells in RAMS. We have reduced the problem of memory testing to the problem of the generation of exhaustive back grounds. Exhaustive tests for detecting coupling faults for k up to 6 (which covers Type I neighborhood) and near exhaustive tests for k up to 9 (which covers Type II neighborhood) are constructed. The systematic nature of the tests constructed enables us to use BIST schemes, for RAMs, with low hardware over heads. We implemented the BIST units for a bit-oriented memory of size IM and calculated the hardware overhead in terms of transistors and area. © 1996 IEEE.

Considering video transmission over an ATM network for a video on demand system, we propose a server of quality (SoQ) that has the main function of fitting the video transmission rate to the available network bandwidth. The SoQ uses a "backpropagation" neural network to fit the MPEG quantization coefficients in a nonlinear way. Here are shown the SoQ specification and the results obtained from its main module implementation.

This paper presents a method for near-optimum synthesis of Differential Cascade Voltage Switch (DCVS) logic circuits using Ordered Binary Decision Diagrams (OBDD). The method presented produces efficient DCVS circuit structures in terms of transistor count which positively affects the circuit area and performance. The proposed method is also very practical because it produces results with short run-times on a design workstation. The paper presents experimental results that demonstrate the use and the efficiency of the proposed DCVS synthesis method. This method is the basis for a CAD tool that allows automatic synthesis of fault secure circuits based on the DCVS technology.

As to distributed processing environment, the intractable problem is that process's current state is indeterminate, which could bring some security issues such as diffusing action. We put forward a checkpoint of integrity measurement (CPIM) arithmetic. The CPIM arithmetic could control process's state when process encounters an integrity measurement checkpoint, which would solve the problem that the running state of parallel software is indeterminate. The virtue of CPIM arithmetic is simple and low-cost. We also provide implementation scheme and prototype for evaluating overhead and performance.

E-learning content creation is not an easy task, but its evaluation is even more complex. In order to evaluate if the content is adequate to the studentspsila needs, it would be helpful to know how the student assimilated the learning content, how he/she reacted to it and the period of time spent on the learning object. Besides, considering the different cognitive features of learning and the possibility of adjusting the didactic content, it could help teacherpsilas evaluation in an available online course. This work describes a monitoring system (Msys) able to track the level of utilization of studentpsilas activities, and presents summarized and comparative results to the teacher and to the student. This paper describes how the MSys tool was created using current standards on digital content construction, defining functional requirements of interface to its development, presenting a proof-of concept and how it could be integrate to online learning systems, providing benefits to the teacherpsilas evaluation.
