The paradigm of Big Data has been established as a solid field of studies in many areas such as healthcare, science, transport, education, government services, among others. Despite widely discussed, there is no agreed definition about the paradigm although there are many concepts proposed by the academy and industry. This work aims to provide an analytical view of the studies conducted and published regarding the Big Data paradigm. The approach used is the systematic map of the literature, combining bibliometric analysis and content analysis to depict the panorama of research works, identifying patterns, trends, and gaps. The results indicate that there is still a long way to go, both in research and in concepts, such as building and defining adequate infrastructures and standards, to meet future challenges and for the paradigm to become effective and bring the expected benefits. © 2024, CC BY.

Brain CT images are very useful in diagnosis of cerebrovascular accidents (CVA). These images contain too many information. But most of the times, provided information is contaminated by noise and suffer from poor contrast. On the other hand, there are certain parts of the brain image that is really important to radiologist, while other image details are more or less confusing. This sparks the need for customized enhancement of brain CT images. Translation-invariant wavelet transform is being widely used in most of image processing tasks including image enhancement. This transform is calculated with a filter bank algorithm, called algorithme àtrous. In this paper we propose a filter bank structure similar to algorithme àtrous. This structure is more redundant and offers greater selectivity and flexibility to enhance desired features of brain CT images.

The visible light communication (VLC) technology is able to provide indoor users with high quality of service and low cost. However, the performance of the VLC is limited in shaded or strong sun-light areas. In this paper, we combine the VLC network with Device-to-Device (D2D) technology. We consider that some mobile users accessible to the VLC network is able to relay the transmitted data to the nearby mobile users. We suppose all the mobile users as relays (MUaRs), cellular service provider (CSP) and VLC service provider (VLCSP) are autonomous individuals, and propose a hierarchical game to analyze the optimal strategies for each of them. In the game, the VLCSP determines the data transmission route and data packet size first. Based on the behaviors of the VLCSP, the CSP determines the prices of wireless licensed spectrum. According to the behaviors of the VLCSP, the CSP and the MUaRs in the neighborhood, all MUaRs determines their transmission data rates for optimal utility. Therefore, there is a graphical game among all MUaRs. When all MUaRs consider the corresponding reactions of other MUaRs in the neighborhood and achieve Nash Equilibrium, the Stackelberg Equilibriums can be achieved in the Stackelberg games between the VLCSP and the CSP, between the CSP and all MUaRs and between the VLCSP and all MUaRs. Simulation results show the correctness of the analysis and the VLC network with multi-hop D2D relay is able to bring high profits for the CSP.

This paper presents KUCAS (Known User Continuous Authentication system), a work-in-progress security system, that has a continuous authentication mechanism of users/consumers. The KUCAS system makes use of environmental context information, users behavior analysis, the behavior theories of Skinner and the Mathematical Confidence of Dempster-Shafer Evidences Theory, that establishes trust levels to authenticate the user by his behavior analysis, during an application software, in a specific domain of the computer networks, in a period of time. The dynamics of enclosed management in this system compares the current behavior with the user's previous behaviors description and with the trust restrictions. In case of indications of changes in the user's behavior, the system provides the behavior analysis of the user using database restrictions information. If there are uncertainties and divergences, mechanisms of security and alert signals are triggered.

Thyroid nodular lesions are one of the most common diseases in the population. As the number of patients increases, it is clinically important to provide physicians with an accurate early aid to determine the benignity and malignancy of thyroid nodules in order to avoid unnecessary surgery and reduce patient burden. In this paper, we propose an improved Yolov5s-based target detection algorithm for benign and malignant thyroid nodules for thyroid nodule classification and identification. Replacing the backbone network of Yolov5s with ResNet18 to reduce the complexity of the model and the number of parameters;introducing the CBAM attention mechanism into the Yolov5s algorithm to improve the ability to extract features;Modify the spatial pyramid pooling module SPP to SimSPPF to improve the training speed of the algorithm;replace GIoU Loss with CIoU-Focal Loss as the loss function of the algorithm to improve the localization accuracy while increasing the regression rate of the bounding box. The experimental results show that the improved Yolov5s achieved an average accuracy of 92.9%, which is 2.9 percentage points higher than the average accuracy of the original algorithm, and can effectively improve the accuracy and efficiency of nodule detection. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper suggests a design of high quality real-time rotation face detection architecture for gesture recognition of smart TV. For high performance rotated face detection, the multiple-MCT(Modified Census Transform) architecture, which is robust against lighting change, was used. The Adaboost learning algorithm was used for creating optimized learning data. The proposed hardware structure was composed of Color Space Converter, Image Resizer, Noise Filter, Memory Controller Interface, Image Rotator, Image Scaler, MCT Generator, Candidate Detector, Confidence Switch, Confidence Mapper, Position Resizer, Data Grouper, Overlay Processor and Color Overlay Processer. As a result, suggested face detection device can conduct real-time processing at speed of at least 30 frames per second.

This paper proposes a real-time HD stereo images rectification hardware design architecture in order to remove vertical parallax of images caused by distortion within the cameras and alignment between them. After calculating calibration parameters of images using Matlab Toolbox designed by J.Y Bouguet as a prior step for the above purpose, the researcher designed rectification hardware based on the algorithms of Heikkilä and Silven. When stereo cameras are installed, it becomes difficult to find corresponding points owing to geometric errors between the cameras. However, in case corresponding points are located in the same line in two images, corresponding points can be found only in the line and therefore calculation becomes simple and errors are reduced. The line where the corresponding points are situated is called an epipolar line. In order to make the lines become an epipolar line, geometric image transformation technique called rectification should be used. Here, in order to heighten precision of result images, the researcher employed a floating point calculator generated using a core generator of Xilinx. Through this, it was verified that rectification hardware which has higher precision than other rectification hardware designed using a look-up table and which operates on a real-time basis may be designed.
