Traffic violations are still the biggest problem in the development of traffic in Indonesia. The three biggest violations are (1) running a red light, accounting for 42% of violations, (2) not wearing a helmet, accounting for 23% of violations, and (3) violating traffic signs, accounting for 9% of violations. The violation of not wearing a helmet is the second largest violation in Indonesia, which is due to the lack of awareness of safety while driving. Additionally, the supervision carried out by the security forces is also somewhat inadequate. Supervision is only conducted in certain areas, leading to a high number of violations. To address these issues, the YOLOS (You Only Look at Once Sequence) model, using Vision Transformer and Pytorch, was developed with the assistance of the AI City Challenge 2023 dataset. This model, trained for 200 epochs, is capable of detecting riders who wear helmets and those who do not. It achieves average precision and average recall values for objects with large area coverage in the precision and recall curves (large area), namely 38.8% and 57.2%, and on average precision with an IoU parameter of 0.5, obtaining a value of 63.5%. The implementation of the model in the Streamlit framework to create a system that can be used for detection was successfully completed. This paper introduces a new large-scale dataset for Farsi document images, named SUT, which aims to tackle the challenges associated with obtaining diverse and substantial ground-truth data for supervised models in document image analysis (DIA) tasks, like document image classification, text detection and recognition, and information retrieval. The dataset comprises 62,453 images that have been categorized into 21 distinct classes, including identity documents featuring synthetically generated personal information superimposed on various backgrounds. The dataset also includes corresponding files with labeling information for the images. The ground-truth data is organized in CSV files containing image file paths and associated information about the embedded data. To demonstrate the efficacy of the SUT dataset in DIA tasks, it was utilized for document classification (achieving an accuracy of 86% using a convolutional neural network) and OCR (achieving a CER of 0.083 and 0.072 using Tesseract and EasyOCR engines, respectively). The SUT dataset serves as an esteemed asset for scholars engaged in the development and assessment of supervised models in Farsi document image analysis. © 2023 IEEE.

We present a mechanical model for an oscillator with one degree of freedom under the influence of a flowing medium. Under fairly general conditions we show that the ensuing differential equation has at most two limit cycles and we give examples where exactly two limit cycles will occur. The implications of this result are that it is possible for a system of this kind to exhibit galloping even when the so-called Den Hartog criterion of local instability is not satisfied. © 2023, The Author(s).

Swallowing assessment is a crucial task to reveal swallowing abnormalities. There are multiple modalities to analyze swallowing kinematics, such as videofluoroscopic swallow studies (VFSS), which is the gold standard method, and high-resolution cervical auscultation (HRCA), which is a noninvasive technique that uses a triaxial accelerometer attached to the patient's neck. Deep learning models play an essential role in data driven analysis of swallowing landmarks using VFSS and/or HRCA as input data. Most of these models utilize convolutional and recurrent neural networks. Here, we investigate the ability of transformers to analyze swallowing kinematics;specifically upper esophageal sphincter opening and laryngeal vestibule closure using HRCA signals. We tested the model using an independent test dataset to assess the generalizability of the proposed network. The proposed network achieved an average detection accuracy higher than 90% and 85% for both segmentation tasks, which outperform the hybrid neural networks from the literature, and the model obtained high-performance measures for the independent dataset, showing the transformers' ability to generalize on unseen data. © 2024 IEEE.

Climate-induced disasters pose significant threats to human lives, infrastructure, and ecosystems. Deep learning techniques, combined with remote sensing, offer powerful tools for predicting, detecting, and mitigating the impacts of such disasters. This study presents a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach using a hybrid cascaded CNN-RNN model to perform spatio-temporal analysis, enhanced image segmentation with U-Net and SegNet architectures, and a hybrid CNN-LSTM-XGBoost ensemble for multi-hazard prediction. The proposed CNN-RNN model achieves an accuracy of 96.78%, significantly outperforming traditional models in predicting flood-prone areas, wildfires, and droughts. Key metrics such as Intersection over Union (IoU), precision, recall, and F1-scores are used to evaluate model performance, highlighting the model’s ability to accurately identify disaster-prone areas and improve disaster resilience. This research not only demonstrates the efficacy of deep learning for climate-induced disaster prediction but also paves the way for future integration of socio-economic data to refine disaster risk assessment. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

The energy sector is changing as a result of digitalization and IoT advancements. The Internet of Energy (IoE) is developing to link many smart grid components and shareholders effectively. The use of smart meters is becoming more popular in this context. The automatic identification of appliances is one of the most important applications of smart meter data. Enumerated billing and dynamic load management are possible outcomes. This process is complicated due to the usage of many brands and types of equipment. For the purpose of automatically identifying significant home appliances based on their usage patterns, this study presents a novel hybridization of segmentation, time-domain feature extraction, and machine learning algorithms. While automatically categorizing six key household appliances of various manufacturers, the developed technique achieves 96.2 percent accuracy, 97.7 percent specificity, and 98 percent AUC values. © 2023 IEEE.

This research-to-practice WIP paper describes concept maps for computer organization. A concept map is a tool that can be used to describe the relationship between the topics (or concepts) in a specific field of study. Concept maps are used in a variety of applications to improve curricula and assessment, particularly in K12 and undergraduate STEM education. In this paper we use concept maps for modeling computer organization topics and assess their importance with respect to the depth and breadth levels required for computer science and engineering graduates. The proposed concept maps focus on two aspects: The first one is the idea of the centrality of the topics. Centrality is an important concept in graph theory. Each topic in the concept map is given a level of centrality or a centrality index. The second aspect is the relationship between the topics, particularly between the topics with high level of centrality. The objective of the modeling is to identify the most central topics and come up with a set of more standard learning outcomes for undergraduate level computer organization courses. © 2024 IEEE.

Mean-field games with finitely many players: independent learning and subjectivity

Independent learners are agents that employ single-agent algorithms in multi-agent systems, intentionally ignoring the effect of other strategic agents. This paper studies mean-field games from a decentralized learning perspective with two aims: (i) to identify structure that can guide algorithm design, and (ii) to understand emergent behaviour in systems of independent learners. We study a new model of partially observed mean-field games with finitely many players, local action observability, and partial observations of the global state. Specific observation channels considered include (a) global observability, (b) mean-field observability, (c) compressed mean-field observability, and (d) only local observability. We establish conditions under which the control problem of a given agent is equivalent to a fully observed MDP, as well as conditions under which the control problem is equivalent only to a POMDP. Using the connection to MDPs, we prove the existence of perfect equilibrium among memoryless stationary policies under mean-field observability. Using the connection to POMDPs, we prove convergence of learning iterates obtained by independent learners under any of our observation channels. We interpret the limiting values as subjective value functions, which an agent believes to be relevant to its control problem. These subjective value functions are used to propose subjective Q-equilibrium, a new solution concept whose existence is proved under mean-field or global observability. Furthermore, we provide a decentralized independent learning algorithm, and by adapting the recently developed theory of satisficing paths to allow for subjectivity, we prove that it drives play to subjective Q-equilibrium. Our algorithm is decentralized, in that it uses only local information for learning and allows players to use different, heterogeneous policies during play.
