An Internet of Things based smart irrigation system for terrace plants is a cutting-edge solution designed to automate and optimize the watering process, ensuring efficient use of water and promoting healthier plant growthSmart irrigation system may vary from field with crops of same variety to terrace plantation with plants of different varieties. As the water requirement may vary based on plant type, environmental condition, growth stage, it is intelligent to provide varying water supply. This Smart irrigation system employs soil moisture to monitor the water content of the terrace garden in real time. Some variety of plants may require minimum quantity of water. The sensors continuously collect data and send it to a central IoT platform or a cloud-based server, where intelligent algorithms analyse the data and determine the precise amount of water needed by the plants. Based on this analysis, the system automatically activates the irrigation mechanism whether it's a drip system, sprinklers, or any other appropriate watering method only when required, thus preventing water wastage and avoiding overwatering or underwatering. © 2025 IEEE.

A collaborative system that includes mobile devices (MDs), edge nodes (ENs), and the cloud is needed where ENs at the network edge can run offloaded tasks of MDs with limited resources and energy for timely processing for latency-sensitive applications. Unlike existing studies, we formulate a total cost minimization problem for the system for applications, which can be divided into several interdependent subtasks. Each subtask can be executed in MDs, ENs, and the cloud. This work formulates a mixed-integer nonlinear program to minimize the total system cost. To address it, a novel meta-heuristic optimization algorithm called Genetic Simulated-annealing-based Particle swarm optimization with Auto-Encoder (GSPAE) is proposed, which innovatively combines feature extraction of deep learning and global search of meta-heuristic optimization. Genetic operations provide diverse solutions, the Metropolis acceptance of annealing offers a robust global search, and autoencoders (AEs) extract distribution characteristics of particles toward high-quality regions for fast convergence. Thus, GSPAE optimizes the associations between ENs and MDs and the scheduling of subtasks among MDs, ENs, and the cloud. Experiments with large-scale Google cluster datasets show that compared to state-of-the-art benchmark methods, GSPAE reduces the total cost by at least 17% while strictly meeting limits of application latency, available energy, computing, and communication resources of ENs and MDs. © 2014 IEEE.

Secure file encryption has become increasingly important in various disciplines, including finance, healthcare, and government, where protecting sensitive data is paramount. The proposed framework aims to meet this requirement by developing an encryption and decryption framework for files that employ Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC), a modern and practical cryptographic technique. The framework will employ ECC algorithms for key generation, encryption, and decryption, which offer several advantages over conventional methods such as RSA and AES. ECC provides equivalent security with shortened key lengths, resulting in faster encryption and decryption, decreased computational burden, and optimized resource utilization. A crucial aspect of the proposed framework is its user-friendly interface, making it easy for users to manage encrypted files. In addition, the framework will include key management and validation mechanisms to ensure the security and authenticity of encryption keys, thereby preventing unauthorized access to encrypted files. The proposed framework will be rigorously tested on a local machine and hosted on a server in the cloud to ensure its dependability and resiliency in real-world scenarios. The framework’s efficacy will be determined based on the encryption and decryption times for various file sizes. The outcomes will demonstrate the efficacy and efficiency of the proposed framework, demonstrating that it provides superior performance compared to conventional algorithms. © 2025 the Author(s).

Traffic congestion poses significant challenges to modern cities, leading to increased energy use, pollution, and long commute times. Optimizing public transit systems and encouraging their use is an effective solution. However, public transit integrates various modes like subways, buses, and shared bikes, requiring transfers between modes. Therefore, understanding the relationships between modes and accurately predicting passenger flows for each mode is crucial. Accurate predictions enable better capacity allocation, scheduling, and seamless transfers between modes, enhancing accessibility and convenience to attract more riders. Existing multi-modal prediction methods typically focus on station-to-region or region-to-region flows, overlooking station-to-station predictions that can better capture inter-modal relationships and provide fine-grained insights for traffic management. This study proposes a multi-modal framework for MRT and YouBike data that employs a spatial-temporal module to effectively model the spatiotemporal dependencies in the data. Federated learning (FL) has emerged as a leading approach for decentralized model training, preserving data privacy by exchanging only model parameters. However, recent studies have exposed vulnerabilities, revealing that attackers can reconstruct private data from shared model parameters, compromising user privacy. To address this, various defense methods have been proposed, with gradient perturbation being a lightweight yet effective strategy. However, it often incurs a trade-off with model performance. In this paper, we introduce a lightweight defense mechanism tailored for Federated Stochastic Gradient Descent (FedSGD). Our method leverages maximum gradient values to gauge noise scale, while also preserving and compensating for previous noise iterations to mitigate performance impacts. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

The digital era has brought a surge in the amount of data generated, increasing the need for data security across individuals, organizations, and governments. Protecting sensitive information from unauthorized access is a top priority in today’s digital world. Cryptography is used to ensure secure communication over the internet, including email, instant messaging, and web browsing. Our paper’s primary goal is to develop a cryptography machine capable of encrypting and decrypting different data types, such as plain text, images, audio and videos using the cryptography of the symmetric key. The proposed model will be implemented using Python and Java. Developing the cryptography machine will significantly protect sensitive information and ensure its confidentiality and integrity. The machine’s ability to encrypt and decrypt different data types using symmetrickey cryptography will provide an added layer of security to individuals, organizations, and governments in the digital era. © 2025 the Author(s).

The specification of experiments expressed as Complex Analytics Workflows is a complex task that involves many decision-making steps with various degrees of complexity. The use of the context, the expert knowledge, and the potential for its sharing and reuse in the context of experiment specification have not been addressed sufficiently until now. Moreover, to make such knowledge instrumental, it should be coupled with specific probabilistic measures, such as particular assurances, ranking, and verification of various options. The paper aims to present a novel semantic model for probabilistic reasoning in any experimentation context coupled with a functional system for knowledge generation, reuse, and sharing. This paper analyzes whether Android apps may outsource computational activities to cloud servers. Due to the complexity of mobile apps, shifting computing operations to the cloud has become popular to improve performance and reduce energy consumption. This paper explains how to deploy an Android app on Cloudflare and tests it under various settings. The testing showed that cloud computing can boost Android app efficiency. The findings show that shifting computing workloads to the cloud reduces mobile device CPU utilization. This frees up device resources, allowing it to perform other tasks. However, cloud processing has limitations. Network latency between the mobile device and the cloud server may affect application performance. In addition, the cost of offloading computation to the cloud can be a concern for some users, especially in high data consumption scenarios. Our findings can be helpful for developers who want to optimize the performance of their Android applications and for researchers who wish to investigate this topic further. Future research could explore ways to minimize the impact of network latency on offloading computation and investigate the cost-effectiveness of this technique for different types of applications. © 2025 the Author(s).

The TMAP Framework: Describing the Design Space of Technology-Mediated Audience Participation in Live Music

Technology-mediated audience participation (TMAP) offers a wide variety of ways to enhance the involvement of spectators during a music performance. Technological change has created rich new opportunities for such interactive performance experiences. Effective design of TMAP requires balancing knowledge from diverse human and technological perspectives and taking into account very different characteristics and requirements in live music performance. However, research in this distinctive area of interaction design is limited, and the provision of practical guidance for designers has been scarcely addressed thus far. To bridge this gap, we propose the TMAP Framework, which describes the design space of audience participation in a practice-oriented way to support design-related processes. This descriptive framework is grounded on existing literature from the last 25 years, and has been iteratively improved and peer reviewed with different experts. It was validated using actual TMAP performances not included in the framework development. The TMAP Framework contains 180 entities in a tree-like sorted structure on four levels. Alongside the contribution to knowledge of extensively describing the design space of TMAP in live music, with the validation of the framework, we demonstrate its completeness, stability and generalisability. In this regard, the framework may also serve as a common language between different perspectives and practitioners, thus addressing the highly interdisciplinary nature of the TMAP field. © 2013 IEEE.

The most innovative Service-Optimized Logging for Resource Allocation (SOL-RA) is in situations that support 6G connection. The CyberTwin architecture optimizes the quality of service provided to end users in 6G communications by using the dependability of terahertz connections and interactions of a machine-type nature. Elastically sharing elastic resources among users is made possible by the proposed resource allocation strategy, which makes use of proprietary logger functions. This ensures that efficient allocation is achieved without overlapping or lengthy wait periods. Within the framework of SOL-RA, a categorization mechanism is implemented for dense requests, which differentiates them as either stationary or priority services. Resource allocations are dynamically done based on this categorization, which enhances the organization's responsiveness to different needs. Through a tree classifier learning mechanism, CyberTwin logs play an essential part in the processing of requests and the preparation of resources. This helps to ensure that resources are distributed without inefficiency. Requests that are generating a backlog are identified and processed in parallel by the system, which significantly reduces the amount of time that is wasted waiting. In order to guarantee a specialized distribution for the categorized outputs, resource allocations are directed by CyberTwin data logs. An examination of the performance of the SOL-RA scheme takes into account important metrics such service latency, service backlog, resource usage, and request-to-response ratio. This research offers insights into the efficacy of the scheme in maximizing service quality and resource consumption in 6G settings. © The Author(s) 2025.
