Photonic Topological Spin Pump in Synthetic Frequency Dimensions

Reducing geometrical complexity while preserving desired wave properties is critical for proof-of-concept studies in wave physics, as evidenced by recent efforts to realize photonic synthetic dimensions, isospectrality, and hyperbolic lattices. Laughlin’s topological pump, which elucidates quantum Hall states in cylindrical geometry with a radial magnetic field and a time-varying axial magnetic flux, is a prime example of these efforts. Here we propose a two-dimensional dynamical photonic system for the topological pumping of pseudospin modes by exploiting synthetic frequency dimensions. The system provides the independent control of pseudomagnetic fields and electromotive forces achieved by the interplay between mode-dependent and mode-independent gauge fields. To address the axial open boundaries and azimuthal periodicity of the system, we define the adjusted local Chern marker with rotating azimuthal coordinates, proving the nontrivial topology of the system. We demonstrate the adiabatic pumping for crosstalk-free frequency conversion with wave front molding. Our approach allows for reproducing Laughlin’s thought experiment at room temperature with a scalable setup.

The neuron doctrine defines the neuron as the basic unit of the nervous system, which drives the dynamic behavior of our organs. This has led to neurons becoming the focus of modern neuroscience research and to the rise of neurocomputing, in which we try to digitally simulate human behavior. The goal being to better understand the human nervous system and gain more control over neuron-related diseases, helping doctors establish faster and more reliable medical diagnoses. In this context, we aim to simulate eye diseases and vision problems by convolving input images using a new class of neural networks based on a variable structure model of neurons presented in [1]. In this work, we focus on recreating the common convolution filters as a first step. This is the first time in neurocomputing literature that dendritic neurons have been used for dynamic convolution kernels generation and eye diseases simulation. We start with a presentation of our upgrades to the model’s flexibility and accuracy. Then, we propose a novel kernel generator algorithm to convolve the input images. Finally, we show its promising results in creating the outline, pixelization, and night convolution kernels, as well as control some metrics, including brightness and data retention. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

As industrial systems become more complex and interconnected, diagnosing faults accurately and in real time has become increasingly challenging. This paper explores how combining artificial intelligence with digital twin technology can address these challenges. We focus on developing hybrid Artificial intelligence models that leverage diverse data sources to enhance fault detection and diagnosis, enabling secure and distributed diagnostics. Digital twins, virtual models of physical systems, are shown to enhance predictive maintenance and decision-making by providing real-time system insights. What sets our work apart is the way we integrate these technologies to create scalable, adaptive, and context-aware diagnostic solutions. We demonstrate the potential of this approach across applications such as smart grids, manufacturing, and autonomous systems. Our goal is to provide researchers and practitioners with a practical and forward-looking framework for developing intelligent, reliable fault diagnosis systems in today’s data-rich industrial environments.

Changes in coal seam hardness cause fluctuations in the feed resistance at the drill bit during the drilling process, leading to unstable feeding speed. This paper proposes a robust dynamic output feedback controller to suppress disturbances caused by the variations in coal seam hardness in the feed system. Firstly, an unknown parameter measuring coal seam hardness is introduced, and an uncertain model of the feeding system is established based on the finite element model of the drill string. By designing weighted functions based on industrial field requirements and constructing a generalized plant, the controller achieves loop shaping, reducing the low-frequency impact of coal seam hardness variations on the feed system and suppressing the systems resonance peak. Simulation results demonstrate that the controller effectively suppresses parameter variations and external disturbances caused by changes in coal seam hardness, achieving stable control of the drilling speed. © 2024 IEEE.

It is essential to accurately estimate the state of health (SOH) for lithium-ion batteries from the perspectives of safety and reliability. However, most existing data-driven methods are based on charging or discharging data, which is relatively difficult to apply. This paper proposes a novel SOH estimation approach based on the relaxation voltage reconstruction and a long short-term memory network with an attention mechanism (AM-LSTM) method. First, based on the relaxation voltage data, a complete relaxation curve is reconstructed with a gated recurrent unit (GRU) neural network. Next, health feature (HF) extraction is carried out on the reconstructed data, and the correlation is analyzed based on Pearson correlation analysis. Then, the SOH estimation is performed based on the AM-LSTM model. Various comparative studies have been conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method by comparing it with relaxation voltage reconstruction and different SOH estimation methods. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can effectively reconstruct the relaxation voltage and have good accuracy in estimating the SOH with a partial relaxation voltage curve. © 2015 IEEE.

In text mining and Natural Language Processing (NLP), extracting emotions from textual data is gaining rapid attraction. The proliferation of online content and the freedom of expression on social media platforms has compelled the advancement of more sophisticated methods for the automatic identification of unwanted content. The One-Dimensional Convolutional Neural Network (1D-CNN) performs best for feature extraction, while the Long Short-Term Memory Network (LSTM) is well-known for extracting sequential features and classification of textual data. This study proposes a novel solution by combining 1D-CNN with LSTM. Utilizing a context-aware model, this study aims to enhance the detection of immoral posts, including hate speech and other forms of immoral content on social media platforms. Various posts are extracted from social media, which are then processed using Glove word embedding models. It depicts the word representations in the text, which yields the form of a real-valued vector determining the words' meaning. The 1D convolution utilizes a filter window over the input time-series data to extract features. Relying on the acquired parameters of the filters, they act as feature extractors. This feature extraction technique allows the model to distinguish detailed patterns and nuances from the textual contents of posts. The sequential processing capabilities of the LSTM network enable an in-depth examination of the text, capturing temporal relationships and context, which is critical for successful content categorization. To validate the proposed model, we utilized a benchmark dataset, called the Twitter dataset. The proposed model achieved the highest accuracy of 95.37% and outperforms state-of-the-art works. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Accurate forecasting of tourism demand is important to the development of tourism. However, the difficulties in recognizing complex spatial and temporal features make it challenging to accurately forecast tourism demand. In addition, existing methods are not practical and flexible enough since they usually established multiple models for different scenic spots. In this paper, we propose a novel method for tourism demand forecasting based on the fully connected long short-term neural network, which enables simultaneous identification of spatial and temporal features for better forecasting accuracy. To enhance the practicality and flexibility of our method, we propose to establish one general model for multiple scenic spots. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms other models in the daily tourism demand forecasting for the Wanshan Archipelago, an emerging tourism spot in Zhuhai, China. © 2021 IEEE.

Nowadays, photoplethysmograph (PPG) technology is being used more often in smart devices and mobile phones due to advancements in information and communication technology in the health field, particularly in monitoring cardiac activities. Developing generative models to generate synthetic PPG signals requires overcoming challenges like data diversity and limited data available for training deep learning models. This paper proposes a generative model by adopting a genetic programming (GP) approach to generate increasingly diversified and accurate data using an initial PPG signal sample. Unlike conventional regression, the GP approach automatically determines the structure and combinations of a mathematical model. Given that mean square error (MSE) of 0.0001, root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.01, and correlation coefficient of 0.999, the proposed approach outperformed other approaches and proved effective in terms of efficiency and applicability in resource-constrained environments. © 2024 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Channel prediction is an effective approach for reducing the feedback or estimation overhead in massive multi-input multi-output (m-MIMO) systems. However, existing channel prediction methods lack precision due to model mismatch errors or network generalization issues. Large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated powerful modeling and generalization abilities, and have been successfully applied to cross-modal tasks, including the time series analysis. Leveraging the expressive power of LLMs, we propose a pre-trained LLM-empowered channel prediction(LLM4CP)method to predict the future downlink channel state information (CSI) sequence based on the historical uplink CSI sequence. We fine-tune the network while freezing most of the parameters of the pre-trained LLM for better cross-modality knowledge transfer. To bridge the gap between the channel data and the feature space of the LLM,preprocessor, embedding, and output modules are specifically tailored by taking into account unique channel characteristics. Simulations validate that the proposed method achieves state-of-the-art (SOTA) prediction performance on full-sample, few-shot, and generalization tests with low training and inference costs.
