This paper introduces a new unmanned aerial system (UAS) design featuring coaxial rotors and tethered operation with a base station. The coaxial rotor configuration enhances stability and maneuverability, particularly in challenging environments. The tethered connection to a base station ensures prolonged flight duration and enables continuous power and data transmission. Moreover, the UAS incorporates a visual question answering (VQA) based target identification system. This system leverages advanced computer vision algorithms to analyze visual input from onboard cameras, coupled with natural language processing techniques to interpret and respond to queries regarding identified targets. The integration of VQA technology enables critical decision-making decisions through providing crucial information identify about targets in real-time scenarios. The new design has a significant potential for applications in surveillance, reconnaissance, search and rescue, and disaster response, as this design was conceptualized to provide persistent Intelligence, Reconnaissance & Surveillance (ISR) capabilities. Accurate 3D kinematics estimation of human body is crucial in various applications for human health and mobility, such as rehabilitation, injury prevention, and diagnosis, as it helps to understand the biomechanical loading experienced during movement. Conventional marker-based motion capture is expensive in terms of financial investment, time, and the expertise required. Moreover, due to the scarcity of datasets with accurate annotations, existing markerless motion capture methods suffer from challenges including unreliable 2D keypoint detection, limited anatomic accuracy, and low generalization capability. In this work, we propose a novel biomechanics-aware network that directly outputs 3D kinematics from two input views with consideration of biomechanical prior and spatio-temporal information. To train the model, we create synthetic dataset ODAH with accurate kinematics annotations generated by aligning the body mesh from the SMPL-X model and a full-body OpenSim skeletal model. Our extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach, only trained on synthetic data, outperforms previous state-of-the-art methods when evaluated across multiple datasets, revealing a promising direction for enhancing video-based human motion capture.

In this work, a silicon-based suspended Whispering Gallery-Mode (WGM) disc resonator coupled to a strip waveguide operating in G-band (140–220 GHz) frequency range is presented. A low-cost and high-precision fabrication process, compatible with the silicon-based platform is employed. The proposed design was measured, and the results verify that higher-order WGM modes with high-quality factors are induced in the operational frequency band. The proposed silicon-based WGM resonator has the potential to be used in low-loss, cost-effective and integrated biosensors for biomolecule detection and characterization.

The electric power transmission network (EPTN) is a connected, geographically distributed network, which can be represented with a graph model with nodes and edges. The graph represents the physical connectivity of the EPTN. Deriving the graph model of the EPTN solely based on continually measured data is important for reliable power system operational situation awareness and decreasing uncertainties driven by weather, electrification, and interconnections. In this paper, an exhaustive search algorithm is presented to derive the EPTN graph model (TNGM) solely based on synchrophasor measurements retrieved from the substations without prior knowledge of the connectivity. Furthermore, an evaluation metric for any data-driven TNGM is introduced. The transmission network of the two-area, four-machine power system is used as the test system, and typical TNGMs for different power plant operating conditions are presented. Typical graphs obtained for network impedance and power flows are shown to be accurate, on average within 2% error margin.

In the Consumer Internet of Vehicles (CIoV), reliable and timely data communication is essential for enhancing driver experience and safety. This paper introduces an innovative QV2X routing strategy that uses Spatio-Temporal Graph Neural Networks (STGNN) and Q-learning to optimize packet traffic in CIoV. By predicting network conditions and adapting to real-time data flows, our approach directly addresses consumer needs for efficient data transmission, reduced communication delays, and improved infotainment access. The integration of predictive models with adaptive learning mechanisms not only optimizes packet delivery but also minimizes latency and packet loss, critical for consumer applications like real-time navigation assistance and hazard warnings. Our key contribution is a dynamic packet traffic management system designed for consumer use, enhancing network reliability and efficiency for everyday vehicle users. Experimental results validate that our model surpasses existing benchmarks by improving packet delivery ratios by up to 15% and reducing end-to-end delays by up to 20% in urban traffic scenarios. This advancement demonstrates our strategy's effectiveness in enriching consumer experiences and safety in vehicular communications. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

Artificial intelligence is actively becoming widespread in every field. The complex structure of deep neural network models, especially those used in real-world applications, may contain faults that lead to unexpected model behavior, even well-trained AI models. To detect these types of faults and model behaviors, it is necessary to perform a white box test of the model's reliability and adequacy by mutating its layers, activation functions, and similar model structures and parameters. White box testing is a method that tests the logical flow of software to detect possible faults and deficiencies in the code. The proposed module performs model-based testing using this testing technique. The module was developed as an extension of the traditional testing tool IM-FIT. It was inspired by IM-FIT's advanced fault detection capacity in traditional software testing, autonomous or customized testing options, and detailed report generation capabilities. The module carries out an advanced scanning and mutation process using its own unique fault library for deep neural networks. The module successfully performed the test by autonomously generating mutants and classifying these mutants. Tests were performed on a Transformer model using the TensorFlow library during the testing process. As a result of the tests performed with 5, 10, and 20 epoch values, a total of 606 mutants were produced. While 414 of these mutants were classified as killed, 192 were classified as survived. This study presents it to the literature as an effective mutation testing tool focusing on deep neural networks.

This study presents an autoencoder-embedded optimization(AEO)algorithm which involves a bi-population cooperative strategy for medium-scale expensive problems(MEPs).A huge search space can be compressed to an informative lowdimensional space by using an autoencoder as a dimension reduction *** search operation conducted in this low space facilitates the population with fast convergence towards the *** strike the balance between exploration and exploitation during optimization,two phases of a tailored teaching-learning-based optimization(TTLBO)are adopted to coevolve solutions in a distributed fashion,wherein one is assisted by an autoencoder and the other undergoes a regular evolutionary ***,a dynamic size adjustment scheme according to problem dimension and evolutionary progress is proposed to promote information exchange between these two phases and accelerate evolutionary convergence *** proposed algorithm is validated by testing benchmark functions with dimensions varying from 50 to *** indicated in our experiments,TTLBO is suitable for dealing with medium-scale problems and thus incorporated into the AEO framework as a base *** with the state-of-the-art algorithms for MEPs,AEO shows extraordinarily high efficiency for these challenging problems,t hus opening new directions for various evolutionary algorithms under AEO to tackle MEPs and greatly advancing the field of medium-scale computationally expensive optimization.

Today, many technological approaches, including educational robotics (ER), enrich the teaching process through gamification. Several studies have shown that educational activities with robots lead to increased student interest, a positive and more effective learning process, and several different skills. This paper adopts a content-based image retrieval mechanism to automate the Gestalt similarity testing process and evaluates the impact of the involvement of a humanoid robot. The proposed framework aims to improve participants' visual perception, cultivate their creativity, and improve their visual working memory. During a pilot study, the participants communicate with the proposed framework either by using a tablet or by interacting with a humanoid NAO robot. The experimental results showed that the participation of NAO significantly increased the interest, attention, and commitment of the students. © 2022 IEEE.
