Social media play a pivotal role in disseminating web content, particularly during elections, yet our understanding of the association between demographic factors and political discourse online remains limited. Here, we introduce a unique dataset, DomainDemo, linking domains shared on Twitter (X) with the demographic characteristics of associated users, including age, gender, race, political affiliation, and geolocation, from 2011 to 2022. This new resource was derived from a panel of over 1.5 million Twitter users matched against their U.S. voter registration records, facilitating a better understanding of a decade of information flows on one of the most prominent social media platforms and trends in political and public discourse among registered U.S. voters from different sociodemographic groups. By aggregating user demographic information onto the domains, we derive five metrics that provide critical insights into over 129,000 websites. In particular, the localness and partisan audience metrics quantify the domains’ geographical reach and ideological orientation, respectively. These metrics show substantial agreement with existing classifications, suggesting the effectiveness and reliability of DomainDemo’s approach. © 2025, CC BY.

With increasing demand for mobile communication and the development of artificial intelligence, the development of the sixth-generation mobile communication network (6G) will be oriented toward more intelligent and multimodal services. It is necessary to consider the deep integration of information, communication, and data technologies and build a full life cycle resource management framework for computing, data, artificial intelligence models, and communication. To address the requirements of 6G intelligent applications and multimodal services, this article refers to the visual cognitive mechanism of the human brain to improve multimedia representation and communication efficiency and studies the architecture of semantic communication systems, privacy protection mechanisms, and quality evaluation and guarantee mechanisms. The “semantic-network-semantic” architecture was established to integrate semantic computing, intelligent communication, and endogenous security to improve transmission efficiency, service quality, and security credibility. Through prior semantic knowledge, semantic representation, and encoding transmission methods, the quality of service of semantic communication is improved. To build an efficient 6G semantic communication paradigm and system, the communication mode should be changed, and new ideas for future mobile communication should be provided.

Early water stress detection is crucial for increasing crop yield, optimizing agricultural practices, and improving water management. This research proposes a novel method for detecting early water stress in lettuces using Thermal Infrared (TIR) and RGB images in a controlled environment. The method initially removes the background of the lettuce canopy to eliminate the noise, then clusters the canopy's thermal data to determine temperature variation and applies a yellow pseudo-color to annotate the stressed areas in the RGB images. The logic behind the proposed method is that during water stress, the transpiration of the leaves' stomata is reduced, and the temperature of the leaves increases. The results show that the proposed method finds water stress sooner than visual symptoms expression, providing helpful information for improved crop management and better water use in agriculture.

Digital and analog semantic communications (SemCom) face inherent limitations such as data security concerns in analog SemCom, as well as leveling-off and cliff-edge effects in digital SemCom. In order to overcome these challenges, we propose a novel SemCom framework and a corresponding system called HDA-DeepSC, which leverages a hybrid digitalanalog approach for multimedia transmission. This is achieved through the introduction of analog-digital allocation and fusion modules. To strike a balance between data rate and distortion, we design new loss functions that take into account long-distance dependencies in the semantic distortion constraint, essential information recovery in the channel distortion constraint, and optimal bit stream generation in the rate constraint. Additionally, we propose denoising diffusion-based signal detection techniques, which involve carefully designed variance schedules and sampling algorithms to refine transmitted signals. Through extensive numerical experiments, we will demonstrate that HDA-DeepSC exhibits robustness to channel variations and is capable of supporting various communication scenarios. Our proposed framework outperforms existing benchmarks in terms of peak signal-to-noise ratio and multi-scale structural similarity, showcasing its superiority in semantic communication quality. © 1983-2012 IEEE.

Deploying Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) as aerial base stations enhances the coverage and performance of communication networks in Vehicular Edge Computing (VEC) scenarios. However, due to the limited communication range and energy capacity of UAVs, they cannot continuously cover entire areas or sustain long flights. Therefore, achieving full communication coverage of a target area with a minimal number of UAVs and efficient task offloading remains a significant challenge. To address this problem, the UAV-assisted Two-stage Intelligent Collaboration (UTIC) method is proposed in this paper to tackle the joint position optimization and task scheduling issue. Firstly, a UAV-assisted Two-stage Task Scheduling (UTTS) system model is designed to optimize the allocation process. Secondly, an Enhanced Particle Swarm Optimization (E-PSO) algorithm is designed to determine the optimal positions of UAVs, ensuring complete coverage of all mobile vehicles (MVs) with the minimum number of UAVs. Thirdly, Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG) method is employed to find the optimal scheduling decisions for MVs, considering energy consumption, delay, and task priorities. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed UTIC method can achieve nearly 20% reduction in UAV deployment and outperform three other classical reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms in terms of reducing system cost. © 2025 IEEE.

Rehearse With User: Personalized Opinion Summarization via Role-Playing based on Large Language Models

Personalized opinion summarization is crucial as it considers individual user interests while generating product summaries. Recent studies show that although large language models demonstrate powerful text summarization and evaluation capabilities without the need for training data, they face difficulties in personalized tasks involving long texts. To address this, Rehearsal, a personalized opinion summarization framework via LLMs-based role-playing is proposed. Having the model act as the user, the model can better understand the user’s personalized needs. Additionally, a role-playing supervisor and practice process are introduced to improve the role-playing ability of the LLMs, leading to a better expression of user needs. Furthermore, through suggestions from virtual users, the summary generation is intervened, ensuring that the generated summary includes information of interest to the user, thus achieving personalized summary generation. Experiment results demonstrate that our method can effectively improve the level of personalization in large model-generated summaries. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Hand pose estimation from egocentric video is a topic of significant interest with broad implications for human-computer interactions, assistive technologies, activity recognition, and robotics. The efficacy of modern machine learning models depends on the quality of data used for their training. Thus, this work is devoted to the analysis of state-of-the-art egocentric datasets suitable for 2D hand pose estimation. We propose a novel protocol for dataset evaluation, which includes quantitative accuracy assessments, analysis of variability and challenging scenarios in dataset contents, realism, as well as the identification of dataset shortcomings through the performance evaluation of leading hand pose estimation models (OpenPose, DetNet, HRNetv2 and MediaPipe). Our study reveals that despite the availability of numerous egocentric databases intended for 2D hand pose estimation, the majority are tailored for specific use cases. There is no ideal benchmark dataset yet; however, H2O and GANerated Hands datasets emerge as the most promising real and synthetic datasets, respectively.

A Region Division-Based Adaptive Task Offloading in Collaborative LEO Heterogeneous Constellation

Satellite Edge Computing (SEC) enhances real-time data processing by deploying computational resources at the edge of satellite networks, reducing Task Completion Delay (TCD). To minimize TCD, the characteristics of satellites with large coverage, strong collaborative capabilities, and limited resources must be fully considered. This paper proposes a novel three-stage task offloading framework to optimize task execution in dynamic and resource-constrained satellite environments. First, to efficiently offload computational tasks among large-scale, heterogeneous users, we introduce a region division-based offloading strategy and develop the Adaptive Division Offloading Region (ADOR) algorithm, which dynamically partitions satellite coverage areas to improve offloading efficiency. Second, to enhance the collaborative computing capabilities of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellations, we propose a Particle Swarm Optimization Genetic (PSOG) algorithm to optimize TS under dynamic conditions. Finally, to tackle the limited and interdependent computing resources of satellites, we design an Intelligent Parameter Adjustment (IPA) algorithm based on Q-learning, which dynamically adjusts computational parameters to maximize processing speed while ensuring system stability. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed framework outperforms existing methods. Compared with the baseline algorithm, it achieves higher task offloading efficiency and better resource allocation. Additionally, it maintains stable satellite operations while reaching the highest processing speed. © 2025 IEEE.

In this paper, a magnetoelectric dipole (MED) antenna with compact size, low profile, and wideband characteristics is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of an electric dipole, magnetic dipole, and reflector. The folded reflector and bent electric dipole form a capacitively loaded loop (CLL) structure. The CLL operates as a radiator at low frequencies, thereby significantly reducing the size of the antenna. Stub-added notches are incorporated into the electric dipole of the antenna. These structures improve the impedance-matching characteristics and thereby expand the bandwidth of the MED antenna. The proposed antenna is constructed entirely of metal without a dielectric substrate, resulting in high radiation efficiency. The electrical size of the proposed antenna is 0.316 λL × 0.292 λL × 0.0389 λL, where λL denotes the wavelength at the lowest operating frequency. Furthermore, the –10-dB impedance bandwidth of the antenna is 0.71–1.96 GHz (93.6%), the gain within the operating bandwidth is 4.0–6.5 dBi, and the radiation efficiency exceeds 91%. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Negotiating Strict Latency Limits for Dynamic Real-Time Services in Vehicular Time-Sensitive networks

Future vehicles are expected to dynamically deploy in-vehicle applications within a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). Critical services operate under hard real-time constraints, which Time-Sensitive networking (TSN) complements on the in-vehicle Ethernet layer. TSN ensures deterministic communication between critical services and its Credit-Based Shaper (CBS) supports dynamic resource reservations. However, the dynamic nature of service deployment challenges network resource configuration, since any new reservation may change the latency of already validated flows. In addition, standard methods of worst-case latency analysis for CBS have been found incorrect, and current TSN stream reservation procedures lack mechanisms to signal application layer Quality-of-Service (QoS) requirements or verify deadlines. In this paper, we propose a QoS negotiation scheme within the automotive SOA that interacts with the TSN network controller to reserve resources while ensuring latency bounds. We comparatively evaluate reservation schemes using worst-case analysis and simulations of a realistic In-Vehicle network (IVN) for demonstrating their impact on QoS guarantees, resource utilization, and setup times. We find that only a reservation scheme utilizing per-queue delay budgets and network calculus provides valid configurations and guarantees acceptable latency bounds throughout the IVN. The proposed service negotiation mechanism efficiently establishes 450 vehicular network reservations in just 11 ms. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.
