End users' experiences, which differ drastically from user to user, influence the perceived usability. Thus, to make software user friendly, it is important to support learning operation methods for end users. To this end, tutorial systems have been proposed. Although referring to the performance of various users has been effective in learning operation methods using tutorial systems, which operation sequences are more frequently performed must be analyzed. Herein we propose a method to generate a tutorial system by analyzing the operation logs of end users and by extracting window sequences from source programs within the software.

This paper reports a novel physical layer monitoring technique called Centralized Failure Detection System (CFDS) based on the use of an optical time domain reflectometry (OTDR) and integrated with inexpensive additional optical devices at the middle of the network system for monitoring the fiber plant of a wide range of passive optical network (PON) based intelligent fiber-to-the-home (i-FTTH) in the background during network operation and determining the faulty branch as well as the fault parameters. Access Control System (ACS) has been developed to handle the centralized line detection for diverting the OTDR pulse signal from central office (CO) to bypass the filter and connect to each corresponding fiber link in drop section. The design and implementation of this integrated hardware/software system enable each lines' status can be observed and monitored at static point where the OTDR injecting the signal. All OTDR measurements are transmitted into remote workstation for centralized monitoring and advanced analyzing.

We have developed a simple and compact remote telescope system. We used a commercial Vixen equatorial telescope, a compact CCD video camera and a small Linux box for the new remote telescope. This paper is to introduce the design and optimization the PoE Hub with redundancy based on the principle of EMC; through the simulation and analysis by FEM to the effectiveness of the hub of the electromagnetic shielding to enhance anti-interference performance of the hub according to the optimization to the problems discussed in the simulation. Having the aid of EMC simulation software, the analysis problem being found during the test of hub is also get the effective solution. The method of the analysis testing and problem-solving will be the guidance and reference to the design and research of the network equipment based on the principle of EMC in the future.

We describe a general engineering method to compute a tighter bound on fiber-optic channel capacity and the optimum source distribution. This method first determines the conditional probability density functions of an optical fiber channel by evaluating histograms, or by instantons or edgeworth expansion approach. Starting from any source distribution, we generate source and output sequences to estimate the information rate and calculate A-posteriori State-Transition Weight. The optimum source distribution is obtained by constrained stochastic Arimoto-Blahut algorithm. We apply the proposed methods on a 64 iterative polarization quantization source. The optimized capacity per single-polarization per channel is higher than achievable information rate. As the transmission distance increases the optimized distribution is changed from Gaussian-like distribution to non-Gaussian-like distribution. This is due to the fact that the nonlinear interaction of ASE noise and Kerr nonlinearities cannot be compensated for by back-propagation method.

End-to-end fairness in a sensor network ensures that data from each sensor has an equal (or weighted) chance to reach the sink. It eliminates the problem that data flows from sensors at some locations (close to the sink) obtain most network bandwidth, while flows from sensors at other locations (far away from the sink) are starved. Existing fairness solutions assume single-path routing, which reduces achievable throughput of the network. In this paper, we propose a multipath fairness solution (MFS) that achieves end-to-end fairness among competing flows through fully distributed operations. MFS is easy to implement, which is advantageous in a resource-scarce sensor network. More importantly, it achieves much higher network throughput and better fairness among the flows.
