Learning video system is used in distance learning programs to deliver pre-recorded lectures. In this paper, we start our discussion on a multimedia presentation recording system which we had developed. We then present how the video recording concept can be further extended to realize a video segmentation system, which is based on video content information. The visual and audio information of a learning video is different. We also point out that a video classification technology can be further integrated to enhance the tool, to enable a more realistic and useful system for the discussion in distance education.

Visual data carried on video sensor networks (VSNs) creates unique challenges due to the limited hardware of the sensors. In this paper, we study the capabilities of VSNs using currently available technology by investigating how the duty cycle of the sleep schedule and the frame rate affect the overall performance of a VSN. The trade-off between sensor video quality and the received frame rate at the sink is depicted which is an important measure for the application level performance. Using extensive simulations run with realistic parameters, it is shown that increasing the video quality to enhance the application level detection and/or tracking performance works only up to a certain extent.

User’s Reference Feedback and trust information is needed for both learners and teachers in virtual university system. In this paper, we presented an advanced Petri Net model to manage the workflow of a web-based multiple participants in virtual University. The presented approach not only can conspicuously help the developer to comprehend the interaction relationship but also to easily construct a shared and trusted virtual world. This approach was based on the scaffolding theory. Learning activities of students and teachers are supervised and understood by each others by the intelligent control system. Their behaviors including the student’s self regulations and the teacher’s/virtual campus regulations are performed and built with trust development. Problems of providing the multi-user interaction on the Web and the solutions proposed by the Petri Net model are fully elaborated here. This paper can be used as a basic/fundamental research framework and tools to study and understand the characteristics of e-learning and to explore its optimal education application.

Numerous authentication protocols for RFID systems were proposed as attempt to prevent unauthorized tracking and monitoring, impersonation or cloning, and information leakage. Many of such attempts cannot establish essential requirements that one robust authentication protocol must guarantee. In this paper, we propose a rapid mutual authentication protocol, called FLMAP, that overcomes all the drawbacks of previously proposed protocols. Our protocol has three passes and it does not use any cryptographic primitives such as hash functions and encryption algorithms; it is very fast and efficient. Significant characteristics of the protocol are forward security, tag anonymity, location privacy, resistance to disclosure attack, low complexity on the back-end server, and scalability. To the best of our knowledge, our protocol offers the most enhanced security features in RFID mutual authentication protocols with respect to user privacy. In analyzing the protocol, we show how remarkable properties such as forward security and tag anonymity are guaranteed.

In this paper, an adaptive approach to skeleton detection is ***, we proposed a method to combine thinning and tracking algorithm which can find the skeleton tracking points, and the points would be reconstructed by using multiple cameras to obtain the 3D coordinates the X, Y, and Z-axis coordinates. The coordinates can be converted into three-dimensional human avatar. The joints of human avatar can be found by the thinning algorithm, and using object tracking to find the joints when the objects are disappeared. The avatar can be applied to the application such as Human computer interaction, entertainments, etc.

On the multi-tasking system, the numbers of applications which execute concurrently are increasing and the memories which each application need are also increasing. The memories of a node are getting bigger and bigger to satisfy these demands. But TLB is very scarce as before. Under these circumstances, the uses of Huge Page reduce TLB misses by reducing the numbers of needed entries of TLB, consequently give applications which need large memories a good effect in regarding to execution speed. But it cause large useless unused memories. Then we proposed two methods which can use Huge Page while saving memories on IA-64. One of them fill a fragments which result from the use of large Huge Page with smaller Huge Page, another makes it possible to use the second HugeTLBfs (HugeTLBfs2). As a result of experimentation, proposed methods show the same speed as the original HugeTLBfs and good results in regarding to memory requirements.

The IEEE 802.15.4 and ZigBee protocol stack offers great potentials for ubiquitous and pervasive computing, namely for wireless sensor networks. However, there are still some open and ambiguous issues that turn its practical use a challenging task. One of those issues is the study of low power consumption of sensor device, which is the biggest issue in sensor network, still has many unresolved issues. Another issues is how to build a synchronized multi-hop cluster-tree network, which is quite suitable for QoS support in WSNs. In fact, the current IEEE 802.15.4 and ZigBee specifications restrict the synchronization in the beacon-enabled mode to star-based networks, while it supports multi-hop networking using the peer-to-peer mesh topology, but with no synchronization. This paper, based on IEEE 802.15.4 and ZigBee as sensor network solution, suggests slotted beacon scheduling(time division beacon scheduling approach in ZigBee tree networks) for low power consumption within a network environment which consists of hierarchical tree topology and beacon-enabled network. To perform multihop transmission, the ZigBee sensor network consists of tree topology and beacon enabled network. The purpose of such multihop beaconing network is to provide a chance to sleep for routing nodes and minimize power waste. We need beacon transmission scheduling in order to reduce power waste and prevent any collision at the time of beacon transmission.

In this paper, we propose a WPAN platform architecture integrating cellular network and WPAN, and we present illustrative services of the platform. In contrast with the existing handsets adopting WPAN technologies, the proposed platform focuses on wireless communication service development considering the full connection between cellular networks and WPAN. In terms of the applicability, mobile game and Voice Terminal implementation are discussed. ©2008 IEEE.

In multi-domain environments, authorization policies for each administrative domain are determined by either one administrator or through cooperation of multiple administrators. Proposed logic-based models for multi-domain environments' authorization neither consider an administrator as the legislator of a policy in policies' representation nor specify the domain of a policy explicitly. Considering legislators in policy specification provides the possibility of presenting composite administration and utilizing administrators' characteristics in policy analysis such as conflict resolution. In this paper, we propose the syntax, proof theory, and semantics of a logic in which administrators are considered in authorization policies' specification, composite administration is presented, and each authorization policy is explicitly associated with some administrative domains. We also claim that the logic is sound. The presented logic is based on modal logic and utilizes two calculi named the calculus of administrators and the calculus of administrative domains. A case study of the logic usage is presented.
