Based on the ZeroX algorithm, we proposed a fast and efficient crosstalk-free algorithm called the Fast ZeroX algorithm for solving optical crosstalk problem in omega networks. In our approach, we introduced the concept of inverse conflict matrix (iCM), another representation of a conflict matrix in which it summarizes all possible conflicts between each node in the network. Using iCM, the ZeroX algorithm is simplified, thus improved by reducing the time needed for routing process. From our simulation results, it is shown that our approach yields better performance in terms of minimal routing time in comparison to the original ZeroX algorithm.

One of the most important initial steps, inherent in the planning procedure of cellular networks, is their segmentation in operational parts that is performed at different levels corresponding to the hierarchy and topology of the network. The major goal of this procedure is the efficient deployment of the system and management of the distributed segmented parts while minimizing the signaling overhead in the network. As we show here, it can take place even during the operational phase of the network when certain shortcomings appear. In this work, we present an approach based on graph theory for the segmentation of cellular networks at the Base Station Controller (BSC) level that achieves a significant increase in the performance of the network. In particular, with the proposed method, both the handover attempts when a mobile station is moving to a cell belonging to a different BSC as well as the corresponding handover failure rate are decreased significantly, allowing for a continuous network upgrade. In this paper, we propose a WPAN platform architecture integrating cellular network and WPAN, and we present illustrative services of the platform. In contrast with the existing handsets adopting WPAN technologies, the proposed platform focuses on wireless communication service development considering the full connection between cellular networks and WPAN. In terms of the applicability, mobile game and voice terminal implementation are discussed.

In this paper, two practical considerations of beacon deployment for ultrasound-based indoor localization systems are presented. In an indoor environment, beacons are deployed incrementally on the ceiling in order to localize the listeners in between the ceiling and the floor. We first propose a water-drop shaped radio model for the beacon to replace commonly assumed spherical radio model in order to provide true coverage of the listeners. Obstacles in the indoor environment are then considered to take into account the line-of sight restrictions and thus to enable practical beacon deployment. Although when taking into these two considerations, the number of deployed beacons required tends to be high, it would otherwise be impossible to provide true coverage of the listeners in the indoor environment utilizing ultrasound-based localization.

The clinical symptoms of metabolic disorders are rarely apparent during the neonatal period, and if they are not treated early, irreversible damage, such as mental retardation, or even death, may occur. Therefore, the practice of newborn screening is important to the prevention of permanent disabilities in *** this paper, we propose a newborn screening system that uses Support Vector Machine (SVM) classification techniques to evaluate raw data on the concentrations of metabolic substances obtained from tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) to determine if a newborn has a metabolic disorder. As per the concept of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), we designed the system using web services techniques, which are suitable for integrating heterogeneous platforms, protocols, and applications. It can be integrated seamlessly into National Taiwan University Hospital Information Systems (HIS) or other related HIS.

The IEEE 802.15.4 LR-WPAN specifies low cost, low energy, low rate transmission of 20~250 kbps and mostly within 10 meters of diameter. Its specification of PHY and MAC layers can be used as the lower layers of ZigBee technology. As many applications for short range, wireless networking environment have been developed, the need for voice transmission over the IEEE 802.15.4 LR-WPAN has been also increased. This paper studies the possibility and effectiveness of voice transmission over the IEEE 802.15.4 LR-WPAN by intensive simulations using ns-2 simulator, and shows several use cases as its applications by their implementations.

Steganography, as one of alternative techniques for secure communications, has drawn more and more attentions. This paper presents a covert communication model based on least significant bits (LSB) steganography in Voice over IP (VoIP). The model aims at providing nice security of secret messages and real-time performance that is vital for VoIP. Therefore, we employ a simple encryption of secret messages before embedding them. This encryption strikes a good balance between adequate short-term protection for secret messages and low latency for VoIP. Furthermore, we design a structure of embedded messages. It can provide flexible length and avoid effectually both extraction attack and deceptive attack. We evaluate the model with ITU-T G.729a as the codec of the cover speech in StegTalk, our platform for study on covert communications theory in VoIP. In this case, the proposed model can provide two optional covert transmission speeds, i.e. 0.8 kb/s and 2.6 kb/s, where the maximum payload ratio is 99.98%. The experimental results show that our method has negligible effects on speech quality and well meets the real-time requirement of VoIP.

We investigate the impact of node capture attacks on the confidentiality and integrity of network traffic. We map the compromise of network traffic to the flow of current through an electric circuit and propose a metric for quantifying the vulnerability of the traffic using the circuit mapping. We compute the vulnerability metric as a function of the routing and the cryptographic protocols used to secure the network traffic. We formulate the minimum cost node capture attack problem as a nonlinear integer programming problem. Due to the NP-hardness of the minimization problem, we provide a greedy heuristic that approximates the minimum cost attack. We provide examples of node capture attacks using our vulnerability metric and show that the adversary can expend significantly less resources to compromise target traffic by exploiting information leakage from the routing and cryptographic protocols.
