This paper looks at the fairness achievable in an OFDMA system. Based on the results, an online resource allocation algorithm is defined for a reservation-based OFDMA system where the frame duration is much shorter than the duration of a call. Simulations show that the algorithm leads to a considerable reduction in the probability of outage. A protocol is introduced for fair resource allocation between two nodes in an ad hoc system. The minimum required overhead is shown to depend on the level of fairness required, and the bounds that are derived.

Web database security is a very important issue in e-commerce. This paper presents a new Web database security model. It utilizes the host identity protocol (HIP), which is being defined by the IETF, and a proposed user identity exchange, to achieve authentication of host identity and user identity, and combines it with the database system itself and encryption to guarantee Web database security and confidentiality of the data. For these purposes, we define a new concept of the user identity namespace for the user, and using it to realize the binding-authentication of the host identity and user identity of the client, and build a relationship between the host and the user. In the new model, we set up a high strength shell of security for the database.

A statistical power adjustment scheme for systems employing adaptive modulation and coding as well as multicodes is proposed. The scheme adjusts the transmit power level, based on the statistics of the received signal-to-interference ratio, in order to achieve a target bit rate outage probability. It is shown that the required power adjustment can differ greatly depending on the channel parameter values, even though without power adjustment these values support the same average bit rate.

InfiniBand is becoming increasingly popular in the area of cluster computing due to its open standard and high performance. I/O interfaces like PCI-express and GX+ are being introduced as next generation technologies to drive InfiniBand with very high throughput. HCAs with throughput of 8x on PCI-express have become available. Recently, support for HCAs with 12x throughput on GX+ has been announced. In this paper, we design a message passing interface (MPI) on IBM 12x dual-port HCAs, which consist of multiple send/recv engines per port. We propose and study the impact of various communication scheduling policies (binding, striping and round robin). Based on this study, we present a new policy, EPC (enhanced point-to-point and collective), which incorporates different kinds of communication patterns; point-to-point (blocking, non-blocking) and collective communication, for data transfer. We implement our design and evaluate it with micro-benchmarks, collective communication and NAS parallel benchmarks. Using EPC on a 12x InfiniBand cluster with one HCA and one port, we can improve the performance by 41% with pingpong latency test and 63-65% with the unidirectional and bi-directional bandwidth tests, compared with the default single-rail MPI implementation. Our evaluation on NAS parallel benchmarks shows an improvement of 7-13% in execution time for integer sort and Fourier transform.

The prevention of multi networm is an urgent problem in network security field. Based on the analysis of the existed vaccine technologies and peer-to-peer (P2P) technologies, an intelligent vaccine based on P2P is given. Firstly, the intelligent vaccine could transform itself with different hole, and prevent or kill multi networm. Secondly, because of its communication based on P2P, the problem of communication after firewall, and made the vaccine more effective is solved statistically.

Optical SMART (Scalable Multi-Access Reconfigurable Transport) network [1] is an emerging optical networking paradigm that can effectively provide connectivity based on the hypergraph theory. Similar to a conventional graph, which consists of a set of edges, a hypergraph consists of a set of hyperedges (or hyperchannels), each of which can connect two or more nodes and can support communications amongst the nodes inside the hyperchannel. To enable hyperchannel in optical SMART networks, we have designed a hybrid node architecture in our previous study [1]. In this paper, we explore the network design principles and formulation for optical SMART networks. In particular, we formulate the static hyperchannel establishment problem as a Mixed Integer Linear Program (MILP), where the set of possible hyperchannels is given.

As a next generation service, immersive media is the most attractive one, which is indispensable for supporting human tele-presence and virtual lab. The immersive media service requires high standards on interactive response delay and synchronization among media for comfortable communication in users' perspective. To measure the customer's experiences from the network provider side, we propose a new measure of quality of experience (QoE), the distortion ratio of service datum (DRS), by calculating how much original statistical property of the service datum is distorted at the receiver end. DRS can make possible compare the QoEs among the heterogeneous services by providing the deterministic value. We also suggest a connection admission control algorithm for supporting the stringent QoE in the virtually synchronized packet network. With the statistical on-off flow description, the loads on a link after aggregating traffic flows can be estimated in terms of probability. According to the level of QoE, admission control algorithm guarantees the deterministic latency in probabilistic manner, while maximizing the usage of network resources.

In this paper, we describe how to set up/down step-size in open loop power control for WiBro reverse link. Since open loop power control does not use feedback information, it is difficult to efficiently use wireless resource with accurate power control. We also provide a method of estimating levels of noise and interference. With numerical investigation, asymmetric up/down power-control step-size is shown to be promising to achieve high sector throughput as well as low error rate.

In this paper, we consider the problem of interference suppression by performing a joint iterative beamforming [1] and channel allocation (JIBCA) strategy for wireless nodes under contracted quality-of-service (QoS) constraints in an ad hoc network. The objective is to maximize the signal to interference plus noise ratios (SINRs) between two communicating nodes under constant transmit power considering the interference from other nodes in the network. For this purpose, the interference impaired network is modeled as a noncooperative joint beamforming and channel allocation game, in which the payoff includes the maximization of the target SINR and the limiting factor is related to the interference caused by other nodes. The proposed JIBCA algorithm is shown to give better SINR efficiency both with the assumptions of perfect and imperfect channel information availability at the transmit/receive units over the network. It is also shown through simulation results that the JIBCA algorithm converges to Nash equilibriums (NE) and results in SINR efficiency improvement.

This paper examines the use of the Receiver Initiated Busy Tone Medium Access (RI-BTMA) protocol in a dense ad hoc network. The RI-BTMA protocol is known to eliminate the hidden and exposed node problems in sparse networks where a transceiver will see one active link or none at all. When multiple links are active, their busy tone signals will interfere. This paper addresses the phase synchronization problem by using the residual frequency offset and a longer sampling time for an incoming transceiver. The problem of choosing a carrier sensing threshold is discussed. In this paper we show that in an ad hoc network nodes which are clustered together have a higher probability of being interrupted. This enforces a spreading or regularization of any randomly generated topology. It is shown through simulations that the effect of the regularization for the RI-BTMA protocol is that the choice of carrier sensing threshold which eliminates the hidden node problem does not vary significantly with link density.
