Research of multi-service dynamic bandwidth allocation strategy

The dynamic bandwidth allocation strategy based on the detection and statistics of network resources is discussed, and its model is proposed. The allocation ratio of resources is modified on statistics result. The proposed method can offer RSVP under satisfying primary need of best-effort service. The algorithm is simulated in NS2, and the results demonstrate that the method can improve the utilization ratio of network resources, and fall the drop rate of packets. The method can rise the QoS of guaranteed performance service, and restraint the grabby flows of best effort service.

Interactions of Fano resonances in the transmission for an Aharonov-Bohm ring with two embedded quantum dots are examined. As the interaction parameter between two quantum dots is modulated, two Fano dipoles (a resonance zero-pole pair) in the complex-energy plane form a quasiparticle, which behaves as a coupled object called a “Fano quadrupole.” In the strong overlapping regime of Fano resonance, the collision and merging of resonance zeros take place and these zeros move off from the real axis of energy in complex conjugate pairs. The periodic motion of both transmission zeros and resonance poles as a function of a magnetic field is discussed.

In this paper, we propose an efficient approach for analysis, design, and optimization of two-port radio frequency microelectromechanical systems (RF MEMS) resonating structures. Methodology utilizes finite element method (FEM) for the prediction of electromechanical responses and fast/accurate mapping with an artificial neural networks (ANNs) technique, toward a final goal - a generic macromodel compatible with modern circuit computer aided design (CAD) tools. Thus, instead of using memory and time demanding full-wave analysis or more extensive and expensive design process using multiple fabrication cycles, a simple yet accurate circuit simulator compatible modeling and optimization procedure is developed.

The study designed a system and a flow of learning to motivate and guide students to conduct experiential learning with mobile technologies. Students of two classes of fifth-grade at an elementary school participated in the experiment. Thirty-four students of one class conducted learning with PDAs in a school garden while thirty-two students of another class conducted in a condition without PDAs. The data shows the advantage of supported with mobile technologies for the acquisition of knowledge. Most of the hypotheses are confirmed in the study. These findings show just how important mobile technology is in helping to improve the learning achievement of experiential learning.

We have established a medical network in Asia-Pacific area with high-quality moving image on a super broad-banded internet line since February 2003. Broadcasting real-time surgery and teleconference with medical-quality videos with Digital Video Transport System (DVTS) were so useful to learn surgical techniques and other medical procedures beyond borders. We have conducted 20 events in categories of teleconference (8 times), live transmission of medical procedure (6 times), and remote attendance to scientific medical meetings (6 times) until September 2004. We had teleconferences among 3 countries in APAN-Hawaii in January 2004 (Japan, Korea and USA), and in APAN-Cairns in July 2004 (Japan, Korea and Australia). There have been no serious transmission/ ethical problems sofar. With these experiences and current achievements, we hope to extend this advanced network system to whole Asia-Pacific countries to share medical skills and knowledge. © 2005 IEEE.

Active learning enables learners to actively engage in learning. Learning not only transfers material to students for learning, but also encourages greater mental engagement and more extensive student-student and student-instructor interaction than does a typical lecture class. Peer instruction (PI) engages students in active learning by achieving continuous instructor-student interaction in a physics lecture. However, the methodologies and the effectiveness of implementing PI for elementary school students have seldom been clarified. This study explores the possibility of adopting PI in an elementary science classroom. The research considerations of the study are as follows: (1) how wireless technology can enhance PI in elementary science classroom; (2) how a teacher can engage students in pre-class reading, and (3) whether elementary school students have sufficient social skills to perform a PI discussion? These questions are examined by observing how the PI pedagogical model worked with a wireless response system in elementary science classroom. Based on the observation, this study also proposes a way of improving the PI learning experience of elementary school students by adding experiments and observations during peer discussion to explain concepts and phenomena in physics.

In this paper, we present a CMOS low power folding ADC (analog to digital converter) architecture, which takes advantage of the low resolution requirement of DS-CDMA UWB transceivers to reduce the power consumption. The high sampling rate is achieved by adopting current steering folding amplifiers instead of cross coupled differential pair based folding amplifiers. Our ADC adopts both resistive interpolation and multiplication to fold the input signal, thereby, reducing the number of folding amplifiers required. When this technique is applied to higher resolution converters, the power and area savings will be even more significant. A brief analysis on the operation of the folding amplifier and a systematic method for sizing preamplifiers, folding amplifiers and comparators is presented. The ADC has been designed in 0.13 /spl mu/m IBM CMOS process. Post layout simulation shows that the spurious free dynamic range (SFDR) of our ADC is greater than 24 dB up to 540 MHz at 1.4 GS/s and consumes about 62 mW of power. The results also indicate that the proposed architecture consumes less power and achieves a higher sampling rate than existing folding ADCs.

A tight-binding parametrization for silicon, optimized to correctly reproduce effective masses as well as the reciprocal space positions of the conduction-band minima, is presented. The reliability of the proposed parametrization is assessed by performing systematic comparisons between the descriptions of donor impurities in Si using this parametrization and previously reported ones. The spectral decomposition of the donor wave function demonstrates the importance of incorporating full band effects for a reliable representation, and that an incomplete real space description results from a truncated reciprocal space expansion as proposed within the effective mass theory.

In order to solve the problems with computing resource and high-speed network traffic, it is necessary to deal with the network traffic by some measuring technologies, such as sampling measurement and load balance, etc, while the hash algorithm is one of the key measuring technologies. In this paper, firstly, a random metric is provided to evaluate the performance of the hash algorithms. Secondly, the randomicity of XOR and shift operations are analyzed, and it is proved that the two operations can improve the bit randomicity. Thirdly, this paper analyzes the four fields of IP packet, such as source IP, destination IP, source port, and destination port, and a hash algorithm named XOR_SHIFT is provided based on the analysis. Finally, using the CERNET backbone traffic and PMA traffic, this paper analyzes the character of the XOR_SHIFT hash algorithm and compares with the performance among XOR_SHIFT, IPSX and CRC32 hash algorithms. This study shows that the XOR_SHIFT hash function provided in this paper has two advantages: algorithm performance and hash randomicity, and it can be applied to measure the high-speed network traffic.

With the exploration and exploitation of wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) technology, the diversification of traffics in networks has accelerated the application and development of multicast technology. Due to the big difference between wavelength bandwidth and the traffic requirement between each pair of nodes, it is necessary to groom the traffics in the network to reduce the resource usage and costs of networks. But the algorithms of traffic grooming become more complex with the appearance of multicast. This paper proposes a heuristic algorithm which grooms the static traffics in multicast mesh optical networks efficiently and achieves a good result.
