Tensor MIMO Perfect-Equalizer Design Using New Projection-Based Method and Approximation-Error Analysis

As real environments are quite complex, multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) channels should be characterized by the multidimensional-multirelational models. Tensor linear algebra has been emerging as a powerful and promising tool for such MIMO channel modeling and estimation. However, to the best of our knowledge, there hardly exists any algebraic framework of MIMO channel equalization when the channel is modeled as an arbitrary-dimensional transfer tensor (a tensor whose entries are all rational z-functions). In this work, we first propose a new method based on the projection, namely, 'projection-based method,' to determine whether a given transfer tensor is a full-rank tensor or not and carry out the inversion of an invertible transfer tensor. Our idea is employing the projection subspace of the system transfer tensor to simplify the pertinent inversion process. Second, we design the finite-impulse-response (FIR) realization to approximate the inverse of an arbitrary transfer tensor such that all entries of the approximated inverse transfer tensor are finite-degree polynomials of z. Third, we also analyze the computational and memory complexities required by our proposed new projection-based method for checking the full-rank condition of a given transfer tensor and for undertaking the tensor inversion. Our developed new theories and analysis in this work can be applied to determine the FIR model-orders of an approximated inverse MIMO transfer tensor often encountered in signal processing, control, communications, etc. © 2007-2012 IEEE.

Deploying Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) as aerial base stations enhances the coverage and performance of communication networks in Vehicular Edge Computing (VEC) scenarios. However, due to the limited communication range and energy capacity of UAVs, they cannot continuously cover entire areas or sustain long flights. Therefore, achieving full communication coverage of a target area with a minimal number of UAVs and efficient task offloading remains a significant challenge. To address this problem, the UAV-assisted Two-stage Intelligent Collaboration (UTIC) method is proposed in this paper to tackle the joint position optimization and task scheduling issue. Firstly, a UAV-assisted Two-stage Task Scheduling (UTTS) system model is designed to optimize the allocation process. Secondly, an Enhanced Particle Swarm Optimization (E-PSO) algorithm is designed to determine the optimal positions of UAVs, ensuring complete coverage of all mobile vehicles (MVs) with the minimum number of UAVs. Thirdly, Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG) method is employed to find the optimal scheduling decisions for MVs, considering energy consumption, delay, and task priorities. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed UTIC method can achieve nearly 20% reduction in UAV deployment and outperform three other classical reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms in terms of reducing system cost. © 2025 IEEE.

Real and effective regulation of contributions to greenhouse gas emissions and pollutants requires unbiased and truthful monitoring. Blockchain has emerged not only as an approach that provides verifiable economical interactions but also as a mechanism to keep the measurement, monitoring, incentivation of environmental conservationist practices and enforcement of policy. Here, we present a survey of areas in what blockchain has been considered as a response to concerns on keeping an accurate recording of environmental practices to monitor levels of pollution and management of environmental practices. We classify the applications of blockchain into different segments of concerns, such as greenhouse gas emissions, solid waste, water, plastics, food waste, and circular economy, and show the objectives for the addressed concerns. We also classify the different blockchains and the explored and designed properties as identified for the proposed solutions. In the rapidly evolving landscape of federated learning (FL), hierarchical architectures are pivotal for improving computational efficiency and safeguarding data privacy. A key challenge in this research area is the optimal selection of edge servers, crucial for executing distributed learning tasks across multiple clients and servers efficiently. Traditional selection methods falter due to their inability to dynamically handle the uncertainties in network conditions and server capabilities. To addressing this weakness, we propose a fuzzy logic-based approach that optimizes edge server selection in a novel smart way, thus enhancing resource allocation by efficiently handling the unpredictable nature of network environments and servers performance. This method is integrated with a previously developed scheme for selecting an optimal subset of clients, thereby establishing a comprehensive framework that significantly boosts the performance and reliability of FL networks. The performance of our approach is validated through real-world experiments and the results demonstrate its superiority over existing methods in terms of accuracy and processing time.

Federated learning (FL) has gained increasing attention due to its ability to collaboratively train while protecting client data privacy. However, vanilla FL cannot adapt to client heterogeneity, leading to a degradation in training efficiency due to stragglers, and is still vulnerable to privacy leakage. To address these issues, this paper proposes RingSFL, a novel distributed learning scheme that integrates FL with a model split mechanism to adapt to client heterogeneity while maintaining data privacy. In RingSFL, all clients form a ring topology. For each client, instead of training the model locally, the model is split and trained among all clients along the ring through a pre-defined direction. By properly setting the propagation lengths of heterogeneous clients, the straggler effect is mitigated, and the training efficiency of the system is significantly enhanced. Additionally, since the local models is blended, it is less likely for an eavesdropper to obtain the complete model and recover the raw data, thus improving data privacy. The experimental results on both simulation and prototype systems show that RingSFL can achieve better convergence performance than benchmark methods on independently identically distributed (IID) and non-IID datasets, while effectively preventing eavesdroppers from recovering training data. © 2023, CC BY.

Rehearse With User: Personalized Opinion Summarization via Role-Playing based on Large Language Models

Personalized opinion summarization is crucial as it considers individual user interests while generating product summaries. Recent studies show that although large language models demonstrate powerful text summarization and evaluation capabilities without the need for training data, they face difficulties in personalized tasks involving long texts. To address this, Rehearsal, a personalized opinion summarization framework via LLMs-based role-playing is proposed. Having the model act as the user, the model can better understand the user’s personalized needs. Additionally, a role-playing supervisor and practice process are introduced to improve the role-playing ability of the LLMs, leading to a better expression of user needs. Furthermore, through suggestions from virtual users, the summary generation is intervened, ensuring that the generated summary includes information of interest to the user, thus achieving personalized summary generation. Experiment results demonstrate that our method can effectively improve the level of personalization in large model-generated summaries. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Currently, the vast majority of international interactions and activities related to trade, government, culture, social interaction, and economics take place online. These interactions involve people, non-governmental organizations, governments, and government agencies at all levels. Recently, a sizeable number of commercial firms and government organizations all over the world have been presented with the challenge offered by cyberattacks as well as the danger represented by wireless communication technologies. A very little amount of time has passed since this had place. We were able to develop a model for the risk of cyber security by making use of Bayesian networks. This model has the capability of locating the point of cyber security that is weak and merging two different cyber analysis models. Among these is the activityquality model, which shows how individuals and/or groups adhere to the legal requirements for cyber security. Evidence describing the critical component of cyber security for a research reactor's RPS may be produced via the cyber security risk model. An further model that shows the probability of a cyberattack against RPS architecture is the cyber security risk model.

Estimating the severity of obstructive sleep apnea during wakefulness using speech: A review

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a chronic breathing disorder during sleep that affects 10-30% of adults in North America. The gold standard for diagnosing OSA is polysomnography (PSG). However, PSG has several drawbacks, for example, it is a cumbersome and expensive procedure, which can be quite inconvenient for patients. Additionally, patients often have to endure long waitlists before they can undergo PSG. As a result, other alternatives for screening OSA have gained attention. Speech, as an accessible modality, is generated by variations in the pharyngeal airway, vocal tract, and soft tissues in the pharynx, which shares similar anatomical structures that contribute to OSA. Consequently, in this study, we aim to provide a comprehensive review of the existing research on the use of speech for estimating the severity of OSA. In this regard, a total of 851 papers were initially identified from the PubMed database using a specified set of keywords defined by population, intervention, comparison and outcome (PICO) criteria, along with a concatenated graph of the 5 most cited papers in the field extracted from ConnectedPapers platform. Following a rigorous filtering process that considered the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) approach, 32 papers were ultimately included in this review. Among these, 28 papers primarily focused on developing methodology, while the remaining 4 papers delved into the clinical perspective of the association between OSA and speech. In the next step, we investigate the physiological similarities between OSA and speech. Subsequently, we highlight the features extracted from speech, the employed feature selection techniques, and the details of the developed models to predict OSA severity. By thoroughly discussing the current findings and limitations of studies in the field, we provide valuable insights into the gaps that need to be addressed in future research directions. © 2024 The Authors

The frequency of malicious activities by cyber attackers is on the rise, posing a significant challenge to counter cyber attacks in the Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) environment. The vulnerability of wireless networks, which serve as the primary communication media for MEC servers and IoT applications, is due to their open nature of communication. This work proposes a MEC architecture that utilizes network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Service Function Chain (SFC) to combat cyber adversaries. Additionally, we evaluate the performance of a cyber deception system, which leverages a software-defined networking (SDN) controller and decision- maker to continuously monitor incoming MEC traffic and direct cyber adversaries to a deception MEC server. The deception MEC server collects information about cyber adversaries' intent, capabilities, and potential damage to the system, thus securing legitimate users from cyber attacks. The proposed approach was evaluated using Monte Carlo simulations, and numerous results were obtained which demonstrate the effectiveness of cyber deception in MEC.
