In this paper, we present a notion of differential privacy (DP) for data that comes from different classes. Here, the class-membership is private information that needs to be protected. The proposed method is an output perturbation mechanism that adds noise to the release of query response such that the analyst is unable to infer the underlying class-label. The proposed DP method is capable of not only protecting the privacy of class-based data but also meets quality metrics of accuracy and is computationally efficient and practical. We illustrate the efficacy of the proposed method empirically while outperforming the baseline additive Gaussian noise mechanism. We also examine a real-world application and apply the proposed DP method to the autoregression and moving average (ARMA) forecasting method, protecting the privacy of the underlying data source. Case studies on the real-world advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) measurements of household power consumption validate the excellent performance of the proposed DP method while also satisfying the accuracy of forecasted power consumption measurements. © 2023, CC BY.

Backdoor attacks pose a significant threat during the model’s training phase. Attackers craft pre-defined triggers to break deep neural networks, ensuring the model accurately classifies clean samples during inference yet erroneously classifies samples added with these triggers. Recent studies have shown that speaker recognition systems trained on large-scale data are susceptible to backdoor attacks. Existing attackers employ unnoticed ambient sounds as triggers. However, these sounds are not inherently part of the training samples themselves. In essence, triggers can be designed to maintain an intrinsic connection with the original speech to enhance stealthiness. Our paper presents a novel attack methodology named Speed Master, which undermines deep neural networks by manipulating the speed of speech samples. Specifically, we execute poison-only backdoor attacks using speed or tempo adjustment. Changes in speech rate have become a common occurrence, as seen on platforms that allow users to adjust playback speed. In real-world scenarios, people naturally adjust their speaking rate depending on the context. As a result, changes in a speaker’s speech rate are typically perceived as normal and are unlikely to raise suspicion. Furthermore, detecting such subtle adjustments becomes challenging for users without reference speech. Our comprehensive experiments demonstrate that Speed Master can achieve an ASR over 99% in the digital domain, with only a 0.6% poisoning rate. Additionally, we validate the feasibility of Speed Master in the real world and its resistance to typical defensive measures. In electric power transmission and distribution systems, the use of overhead lines instead of underground cables is preferred by power utilities mainly due to the lower construction cost and the easier maintenance access. On the other hand the equipment used in overhead lines is stressed by several factors, such as weather conditions, lightning, vegetation fires, etc. In particular, vegetation fires under the overhead transmission lines could have catastrophic results for the installed equipment and can cause long-lasting electricity interruptions. In this study, condition assessment results are presented for eighteen 150 kV composite insulators exposed to a forest fire event, occurred in the August 2021, in the island of Rhodes, Greece. The evaluation of the fire effects on composite insulators was performed by employing several macroscopic and microscopic diagnostic techniques including visual inspection, hydrophobicity classification, Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and optical microscopy analysis.

Now that the COVID-19 pandemic is serious, in order to maintain the quality of life and safety, it is very important to remind people of the outbreak. Because when the SARS pandemic occurred in the past, it was found that the pandemic situation had a certain relationship with the weather. Therefore, we tried to analyze the relationship between the pandemic situation and the weather by analyzing big data information, and we also tried to conclude the possible pandemic situation and climate-related prediction rules through big data. We hope to use the most popular instant messaging software — LINE in Taiwan to assist in the auxiliary reminders of the pandemic. When people use the weather pandemic robot, they can also find the correlation between the weather and the pandemic, and it also helps to remind the public to pay more attention to their own health.

Rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA) is a novel multiple access technique that breaks messages into common and private parts to mitigate interference in a flexible manner. Motivated by its robustness, RSMA is promising in multibeam satellite systems, where a satellite broadly serves terrestrial users through a multibeam multicast transmission with a full frequency reuse among all spot beams. In the multibeam satellite system, there are heterogeneous traffic demands among the spot beams. To meet the different traffic requirements for the spot beams, we present a novel RSMA-enabled rate-matching framework that matches the traffic demand for each spot beam through partially decoding inter-beam interference. We optimize the precoding and power allocation of the private/common messages to achieve the minimization of the difference between data rates and traffic demands among all spot beams. Numerical results show that the proposed framework significantly outperforms conventional transmission schemes in terms of meeting the traffic demands for the spot beams.

This study presents a comprehensive assessment of water quality in Sri Lankan reservoirs using available data sources. The study focuses on the identification of microorganisms through image analysis, watercolor analysis in satellite-based images detection of water quality, and the inference of water quality index using relevant physical parameters. By analyzing images, the study quantifies microorganisms, providing insights into microbial diversity and potential risks. Image processing techniques enable the identification of contaminants based on watercolor analysis. Utilizing satellite data, it examines variations in water quality parameters, providing a comprehensive assessment of overall water quality. The derived water quality index, using relevant physical parameters, quantitatively assesses and compares water quality across different reservoirs. The findings contribute to understanding water quality in Sri Lankan reservoirs, supporting informed decision-making and sustainable water resource management.

The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) has achieved remote diagnosis and real-time health monitoring through intelligent sensor devices and Internet of Things (IoT) technology, providing great convenience for analyzing medical conditions between doctors and patients. However, sensitive information such as patient medical data may face security challenges such as data leakage and abuse during transmission in the IoMT. To ensure the confidentiality and unforgeability of medical data transmission, scholars have proposed many cryptographic schemes. With the development of quantum computers, schemes based on traditional cryptographic primitives have become insecure. Existing cryptographic schemes for IoMT cannot simultaneously meet the security requirements of high communication performance, low computational overhead, and resistance to quantum attacks. Therefore, we propose an efficient module-lattice-based certificateless online/offline signcryption (MLCLOOSC) scheme resistant to quantum attacks while meeting the confidentiality and unforgeability requirements under Type I and Type II attacks. Compared with five recent CLOOSC schemes, theoretical analysis, and experimental test results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the other five schemes regarding computational and communication costs and security. Therefore, our scheme is more suitable for application in IoMT scenarios. © 2014 IEEE.

Is the Performance of NOMA-aided Integrated Sensing and Multicast-Unicast Communications Improved by IRS?

In this paper, we consider intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) in a non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA)aided Integrated Sensing and Multicast-Unicast Communication (ISMUC) system, where the multicast signal is used for sensing and communications while the unicast signal is used only for communications. Our goal is to depict whether the IRS improves the performance of NOMA-ISMUC system or not under the imperfect/perfect successive interference cancellation (SIC) scenario. Towards this end, we formulate a non-convex problem to maximize the unicast rate while ensuring the minimum target illumination power and multicast rate. To settle this problem, we employ the Dinkelbach method to transform this original problem into an equivalent one, which is then solved via alternating optimization algorithm and semidefinite relaxation (SDR) with Sequential Rank-One Constraint Relaxation (SROCR). Based on this, an iterative algorithm is devised to obtain a near-optimal solution. computer simulations verify the quick convergence of the devised iterative algorithm, and provide insightful results. Compared to NOMA-ISMUC without IRS, IRS-aided NOMA-ISMUC achieves a higher rate with perfect SIC but keeps the almost same rate in the case of imperfect SIC. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. A fragmentation problem increases bandwidth blocking in an elastic optical network (EON). A technique to reduce bandwidth fragmentation is important. The routing and spectrum allocation (RSA) approach is one of the techniques to reduce bandwidth fragmentation. A slicing-and-stitching technology is adopted in EON to relax a consecutive slot constraint for the spectrum allocation process. A slicer is used to split a signal of a spectrum band into several spectrum components, as a slicing process. The split spectrum components are transmitted to the destination before recovering the original signal at the destination, as a stitching process. An RSA algorithm for EON with this technology is applied. As a result, the request blocking is reduced. Slicers are applied to all nodes in the network. The implementation cost is high. Reducing the number of slicers in the network degrades the performance in terms of bandwidth blocking. This paper investigates bandwidth blocking when the number of slicers is limited. Some nodes in the network are selected to place slicers. A betweenness centrality (BC) value is used to select the nodes to place the slicers. The result from a simulation shows that placing a small number of slicers per node for a large number of nodes has better performance than placing a large number of slicers per node for a small number of nodes. © 2021 IEEE.
