Mobile edge caching (MEC) is a promising technique to improve the quality of service (QoS) for mobile users (MU) by bringing data to the network edge. However, optimizing the crucial QoS aspects of message freshness and service promptness, measured by age of information (AoI) and service delay, respectively, entails a tradeoff due to their competition for shared edge resources. This paper investigates this tradeoff by formulating their weighted sum minimization as a sequential decision-making problem, incorporating high-dimensional, discrete-valued, and linearly constrained design variables. First, to assess the feasibility of the considered problem, we characterize the corresponding achievable region by deriving its superset with the rate stability theorem and its subset with a novel stochastic policy, and develop a sufficient condition for the existence of solutions. Next, to efficiently solve this problem, we propose a mixed-order drift-plus-penalty algorithm by jointly considering the linear and quadratic Lyapunov drifts and then optimizing them with dynamic programming (DP). Finally, by leveraging the Lyapunov optimization technique, we demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves an O(1/V ) versus O(V ) tradeoff for the average AoI and average service delay. The given study focuses on the influence of artificial intelligence (AI) on adjudicatory procedures mostly on observance of such right to an impartial trial in several law-related fields with respect to existing decisions. The consideration of such substance of the right to an impartial trial serves as the beginning stage for the debate, with a special focus on the autonomy and impartiality of the judiciary. Following that, the article analyses the prospect of minimizing the individual role in court processes in charge of making decisions using information technologies. This paper analyses the admissibility of using AI tools in the judiciary and contains considerations on ethical aspects of AI application in judicial proceedings and whether an AI system can take over the role of a decision-maker in judicial proceedings, thereby replacing or supporting the judge. The paper with a view of its legal compliance, non-discrimination, transparency, and efficiency of legal proceedings. The study employs the method of analyzing the law in force and investigating theories of law, taking into account the critical analysis of the literature at the decision level.

Efficient route optimization is a crucial concern in modern transportation systems, influencing travel time, resource consumption, and user satisfaction. By empowering users to select their priority parameters, such as safety or efficiency, this project enables travellers to make eco-conscious choices and select routes that minimize their environmental footprint. Real-time data integration ensures users can bypass traffic jams and accidents, reducing emissions and fuel consumption. Furthermore, the focus on safety factors helps prevent accidents, thereby fostering safer road environments. Existing systems often fall short, providing limited customization and overlooking safety and sustainability priorities. To bridge these gaps, this project introduces an advanced route planning system that empowers users to select their priority parameters, integrates real-time data for up-to- the-minute updates, and prioritizes road safety. It introduces a pioneering approach that enhances the Dijkstra Algorithm by integrating real-time accident rate and travel time data into the route optimization process. By considering these additional factors, the algorithm produces routes that not only minimize distance but also prioritize safety and time efficiency in dynamic real-world conditions. The algorithm's multi-factor optimization considers distance, accident rates, and travel times, enabling the creation of routes that balance these criteria and offer improved decision-making for users through a user- friendly interface. The algorithm's dynamic adaptability, multi- factor optimization, and practical implementation showcase its potential to revolutionize how routes are planned, leading to safer, faster, and more informed travel experiences.

Characterizing and Mitigating Anti-patterns of Alerts in Industrial Cloud Systems

Alerts are crucial for requesting prompt human intervention upon cloud anomalies. The quality of alerts significantly affects the cloud reliability and the cloud provider's business revenue. In practice, we observe on-call engineers being hindered from quickly locating and fixing faulty cloud services because of the vast existence of misleading, non-informative, non-actionable alerts. We call the ineffectiveness of alerts "anti-patterns of alerts". To better understand the anti-patterns of alerts and provide actionable measures to mitigate anti-patterns, in this paper, we conduct the first empirical study on the practices of mitigating anti-patterns of alerts in an industrial cloud system. We study the alert strategies and the alert processing procedure at Huawei Cloud, a leading cloud provider. Our study combines the quantitative analysis of millions of alerts in two years and a survey with eighteen experienced engineers. As a result, we summarized four individual anti-patterns and two collective anti-patterns of alerts. We also summarize four current reactions to mitigate the anti-patterns of alerts, and the general preventative guidelines for the configuration of alert strategy. Lastly, we propose to explore the automatic evaluation of the Quality of Alerts (QoA), including the indicativeness, precision, and handleability of alerts, as a future research direction that assists in the automatic detection of alerts' anti-patterns. UAVs have been extremely influential for applications such as remote/sensing, disaster response, surveillance, and infrastructure monitoring. They are valuable in modern-day operations because they can conduct high-precision aerial surveys autonomously. Most of the existing trajectory planning approaches are based on metaheuristic algorithms of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Genetic Algorithm (GA), and Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), which are capable of providing satisfactory results. Still, they are computationally expensive with slow convergence and sensitive to local optima. In this paper, the challenges raised above are addressed by an Optimized Trajectory Planning Framework based on the Crow Search Algorithm (CSA). It is based on a nature-inspired optimization technique that mimics the intelligent foraging behavior of crows. The proposed approach dynamically adjusts the UAV flight path by balancing the exploration and exploitation, to compute the optimal trajectory quickly and meanwhile to save energy and avoid the obstacle. Unlike other metaheuristic methods, the Crow Search Algorithm does not confront the premature convergence problem and can guarantee adaptive path optimization even under uncertain environmental conditions. Results show that the energy efficiency performance of the Crow Search Algorithm is 15 percent better, the performance in terms of coverage is 20 percent improved, and the speed of convergence is 30 percent faster compared to various state-of-the-art methods. These experimental findings demonstrate that integrating CSA into UAV trajectory planning offers high computational efficiency, obstacle avoidance, and mission endurance, rendering it a superior UAV trajectory planning algorithm for real-time aerial navigation and autonomous surveillance applications.

The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has become an essential component of modern industrial automation. However, the security of IIoT remains a significant challenge due to its distributed and heterogeneous nature. The proposed hybrid approach, called HRC-CLS, integrates symmetric and asymmetric encryption, Certificate-less Signcryption (CLS), and attribute-based encryption to provide confidentiality, integrity, authenticity, and access control in the IIoT environment. The proposed approach supports dynamic access control and fine-grained access policies. The results of the experiments indicate that the suggested scheme outperforms other CLS methods that are already in use in terms of a variety of performance measures. The strategy may find use in a variety of contexts, including the automation of manufacturing processes, the development of smart cities, and medical care.

Through network slicing, different requirements of different applications and services can be met. These requirements can be in terms of latency, bandwidth, mobility support, defining service area, as well as security. Through fine and dynamic tuning of network slices, services can have their delivery platforms constantly customized according to their changing needs. In this article, we present our implementation of an E2E network slice orchestration platform, evaluate its performance in terms of dynamic deployment of network slices in an E2E fashion, and discuss how its functionality can be enhanced to better customize the network slices according to the needs of their respective services. © 2022, CC BY-NC-ND.

Federated Learning (FL) is a privacy-preserving machine learning (ML) technology that enables collaborative training and learning of a global ML model based on aggregating distributed local model updates. However, security and privacy guarantees could be compromised due to malicious participants and the centralized FL server. This paper proposed a bi-level blockchained architecture for secure federated learning-based traffic prediction. The bottom and top layer blockchain store the local model and global aggregated parameters accordingly, and the distributed homomorphic-encrypted federated averaging (DHFA) scheme addresses the secure computation problems. We propose the partial private key distribution protocol and a partially homomorphic encryption/decryption scheme to achieve the distributed privacy-preserving federated averaging model. We conduct extensive experiments to measure the running time of DHFA operations, quantify the read and write performance of the blockchain network, and elucidate the impacts of varying regional group sizes and model complexities on the resulting prediction accuracy for the online traffic flow prediction task. The results indicate that the proposed system can facilitate secure and decentralized federated learning for real-world traffic prediction tasks. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
