In this paper, we propose a novel semantic-aided image communication framework for supporting the compatibility with practical separation-based coding architectures. Particularly, the deep learning (DL)-based joint source-channel coding (JSCC) is integrated into the classical separate source-channel coding (SSCC) to transmit the images via the combination of semantic stream and image stream from DL networks and SSCC respectively, which we name as parallel-stream transmission. The positive coding gain stems from the sophisticated design of the JSCC encoder, which leverages the residual information neglected by the SSCC to enhance the learnable image features. Furthermore, a conditional rate adaptation mechanism is introduced to adjust the transmission rate of semantic stream according to residual, rendering the framework more flexible and efficient to bandwidth allocation. We also design a dynamic stream aggregation strategy at the receiver, which provides the composite framework with more robustness to signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) fluctuations in wireless systems compared to a single conventional codec. Finally, the proposed framework is verified to surpass the performance of both traditional and DL-based competitors in a large range of scenarios and meanwhile, maintains lightweight in terms of the transmission and computational complexity of semantic stream, which exhibits the potential to be applied in real systems. In this paper, the problem of optimal scheduling of network synchronization in the Internet of Things is studied. The optimal scheduling problem is transformed into a stochastic optimization problem by modeling clock skew and offset process as virtual queues. Synchronization is therefore achieved by controlling the virtual queue backlog sizes to satisfy constraints on synchronization errors. Accordingly, an optimal synchronization scheduling algorithm (OSSA) is designed to optimize network utility functions. Optimal policies are considered to jointly minimize the energy cost and the age of information using OSSA, and it is proven that the performance can be controlled to be arbitrarily close to optimal. Simulation results indicate that the OSSA algorithm achieves performance improvements regarding energy cost, age of information, and synchronization error comparing to periodic and on-demand policies under different conditions.

One of the crucial elements in an Internet of Things (IoT) environment is a database. IoT performance will be at stake if the wrong database is adopted. In this research, three Structured Query Language (SQL) databases were tested against multiple network speeds in an IoT device. Single board computers (SBC) were used as a media of testing instead of an ordinary computer. A controlled wireless sensor network (WSN) was developed with several uniform constants and variable network speeds. A new data transmission rate equation also was proposed and tested. From the result, it was found that not all SQL databases can cater IoT devices. Some of them showed that performance decreased along with network speed. The correlation, between 0.90 and 0.96, proved the strong influence between the research subjects. In addition, file-type database is the best option available for SQL-wise IoT storage. © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In this paper,we propose an asymmetric controlled bidirectional transmission *** the protocol,by using the thirteen-qubit entangled state as the quantum channel,Alice can realize the transmission of a two-qubit equatorial state for Bob and Bob can transmit a four-qubit equatorial state for Alice under the control of ***,we give the construction of the quantum channel,which can be done by performing several H and CNOT ***,through implementing the appropriate measurements and the corresponding recovery operations,the desired states can be transmitted simultaneously,securely and ***,we analyze the performance of the protocol,including the efficiency,the necessary operations and the classical communication *** then,we describe some comparisons with other *** our protocol does not require auxiliary particles and additional operations,the classic communication costs less while achieving the multi-particle bidirectional transmission,so the overall performance of the protocol is better.

Deep learning approach for enhanced cyber threat indicators in Twitter stream

In recent days, the amount of Cyber Security text data shared via social media resources mainly Twitter has increased. An accurate analysis of this data can help to develop cyber threat situational awareness framework for a cyber threat. This work proposes a deep learning based approach for tweet data analysis. To convert the tweets into numerical representations, various text representations are employed. These features are feed into deep learning architecture for optimal feature extraction as well as classification. Various hyperparameter tuning approaches are used for identifying optimal text representation method as well as optimal network parameters and network structures for deep learning models. For comparative analysis, the classical text representation method with classical machine learning algorithm is employed. From the detailed analysis of experiments, we found that the deep learning architecture with advanced text representation methods performed better than the classical text representation and classical machine learning algorithms. The primary reason for this is that the advanced text representation methods have the capability to learn sequential properties which exist among the textual data and deep learning architectures learns the optimal features along with decreasing the feature size. BiCANet: Bi-directional contextual aggregating network for image semantic segmentation

Exploring contextual information in convolutional neural networks (CNNs) has gained substantial attention in recent years for semantic segmentation. This paper introduces a Bi-directional Contextual Aggregating Network, called BiCANet, for semantic segmentation. Unlike previous approaches that encode context in feature space, BiCANet aggregates contextual cues from a categorical perspective, which mainly consists of three parts: contextual condensed projection block (CCPB), bidirectional context interaction block (BCIB), and muti-scale contextual fusion block (MCFB). More specifically, CCPB learns a category-based mapping through a split-transform-merge architecture, which condenses contextual cues with different receptive fields from intermediate layer. BCIB, on the other hand, employs dense skipped-connections to enhance the class-level context exchanging. Finally, MCFB integrates multi-scale contextual cues by investigating short- and long-ranged spatial dependencies. To evaluate BiCANet, we have conducted extensive experiments on three semantic segmentation datasets: PASCAL VOC 2012, Cityscapes, and ADE20K. The experimental results demonstrate that BiCANet outperforms recent state-of-the-art networks without any postprocess techniques. Particularly, BiCANet achieves the mIoU score of 86.7%, 82.4% and 38.66% on PASCAL VOC 2012, Cityscapes and ADE20K testset, respectively. The first known case of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was identified in December 2019. It has spread worldwide, leading to an ongoing pandemic, imposed restrictions and costs to many countries. Predicting the number of new cases and deaths during this period can be a useful step in predicting the costs and facilities required in the future. The purpose of this study is to predict new cases and deaths rate one, three and seven-day ahead during the next 100 days. The motivation for predicting every n days (instead of just every day) is the investigation of the possibility of computational cost reduction and still achieving reasonable performance. Such a scenario may be encountered real-time forecasting of time series. Six different deep learning methods are examined on the data adopted from the WHO website. Three methods are LSTM, Convolutional LSTM, and GRU. The bidirectional extension is then considered for each method to forecast the rate of new cases and new deaths in Australia and Iran countries. This study is novel as it carries out a comprehensive evaluation of the aforementioned three deep learning methods and their bidirectional extensions to perform prediction on COVID-19 new cases and new death rate time series. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that Bi-GRU and Bi-Conv-LSTM models are used for prediction on COVID-19 new cases and new deaths time series. The evaluation of the methods is presented in the form of graphs and Friedman statistical test. The results show that the bidirectional models have lower errors than other models. Several error evaluation metrics are presented to compare all models, and finally, the superiority of bidirectional methods is determined. Analysis of data harvesting by unmanned aerial vehicles

This paper explores an emerging wireless architecture based on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), i.e., drones. We consider a network where UAVs at fixed altitude harvest data from Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices on the ground. In such a system, the UAVs’ motion activates IoT uplink transmissions and so the motion triggers the interference field and determines the network performance. To analyze the performance, we propose a stochastic geometry model. The coverage area of each UAV, referred to as the activation window, is modeled for simplicity as a rectangle where at most one IoT device is scheduled to transmit at a time. In this setting, we analyze the signal-to-interference and data rate from two typical perspectives, namely from a typical UAV’s and from a typical IoT device’s points of view. Our stochastic geometry model enables us to explore the size of the activation window which maximizes the UAV networks’ harvesting capacity.
