The background microscopic image shows leptospira interrogans bacteria, the source of Leptospirosis, a deadly disease but with common early flu-like symptoms and likely leads to under-diagnosed. Highly sensitive leptospira DNA sensor is developed using tapered optical fiber as shown by the schematic image. Laser transmits in the optical fiber interacts with the functionalized amine and aldehyde coatings (bottom images) to produce wavelength shifts upon DNA exposure around the tapered region. We review comprehensive observations of electromagnetic ion cyclotron (EMIC) wave-driven energetic electron precipitation using data from the energetic electron detector on the Electron Losses and Fields InvestigatioN (ELFIN) mission, two polar-orbiting low-altitude spinning CubeSats, measuring 50-5000 keV electrons with good pitch-angle and energy resolution. EMIC wave-driven precipitation exhibits a distinct signature in energy-spectrograms of the precipitating-to-trapped flux ratio: peaks at >0.5 MeV which are abrupt (bursty) (lasting ∼17s, or ∆L ∼ 0.56) with significant substructure (occasionally down to sub-second timescale). We attribute the bursty nature of the precipitation to the spatial extent and structuredness of the wave field at the equator. Multiple ELFIN passes over the same MLT sector allow us to study the spatial and temporal evolution of the EMIC wave - electron interaction region. Case studies employing conjugate ground-based or equatorial observations of the EMIC waves reveal that the energy of moderate and strong precipitation at ELFIN approximately agrees with theoretical expectations for cyclotron resonant interactions in a cold plasma. Using 2 years of ELFIN data uniformly distributed in local time, we assemble a statistical database of ∼50 events of strong EMIC wave-driven precipitation. Most reside at L ∼ 5 − 7 at dusk, while a smaller subset exists at L ∼ 8 − 12 at post-midnight. The energies of the peak-precipitation ratio and of the half-peak precipitation ratio (our proxy for the minimum resonance energy) exhibit an L-shell dependence in good agreement with theoretical estimates based on prior statistical observations of EMIC wave power spectra. The precipitation ratio’s spectral shape for the most intense events has an exponential falloff away from the peak (i.e., on either side of ∼ 1.45 MeV). It too agrees well with quasi-linear diffusion theory based on prior statistics of wave spectra. It should be noted though that this diffusive

PAPR Reduction in All-optical OFDM Systems Based on Phase Pre-emphasis

This paper investigates the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) theory in all-optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) optical fibre communication systems. We find out that phase pre-emphasis could effectively reduce PAPR in all-optical OFDM communication systems which employ intensity modulation-direct detection (IM-DD) method. An equation is developed and proposed to calculate suitable phasing values for pre-emphasis. Furthermore, we find out that phase pre-emphasis cannot reduce PAPR effectively in all-optical OFDM systems that employ Phase Shift Keying (PSK) or Quadracture Amplitude Modulation (QAM) method.

The concepts of universality and general applicability of information networks as well as the issues of using networks in specific directions are considered in the article on the example of the convergence of transport infrastructure and information networks. An analysis of modern information networks has been carried out and the following three main directions have been identified: infrastructure as a service, platform as a service, software as a service. The article examines the issues of automation of the customer relationship management by introducing a CRM system in order to improve transport support and logistics services provided by companies at the competitive market of logistics services. The basic principles of convergence of information networks and transport infrastructure are presented on the example of a transport and logistics system. The issues of use of the modern information technologies for continuous monitoring of transport infrastructure are considered.

A polypyrrole Chitosan Graphene Oxide (PPy-Chi/GO) composite layer was prepared using the electro-chemical method. The PPy-Chi/GO layer was used to measure the low concentration of napropamide. In this study, the PPy-Chi/GO composite layer was deposited on the gold layer side of a microscope's glass slide in different thicknesses. The morphology, thickness, roughness, and refractive index of the layer were obtained using field effect scanning electron microscopy, profilemeter, atomic force microscopy, and the surface plasmon resonance technique. The structure of the composite layer was investigated using X-Ray diffraction. The peak that were observed from X-ray diffraction was at 9.9°, corresponding to GO, and the broad peak between 25° and 27° was related to polypyrrole and chitosan. The PPy-Chi/GO layer was used to measure the concentration of napropamide dissolved in hexane in the range of 0.01 to 100 ppm using the surface plasmon resonance technique; the limitation of sensor was 0.1 ppm.

The paper presents the results of an application-based reliability study of distributed computer control systems with very high reliability demand, e.g. for supervision and control of power plants and energy distribution systems.
