The development of multi-cloud systems with an acceptable level of service delays that significantly affect the quality of the end-users experience is an open research problem, for which simulation is successfully used. This paper proposes a simulation model in Matlab for estimating the time to write data updates initiated by the end-users to the databases of all cloud service providers for a multi-cloud system with a geo-distributed middleware that implements, as an example, the VIP-grab data consistency protocol. The simulation results indicate that our model can be useful in choosing a data consistency protocol that influences the architecture of a multicloud system. © 2022 IEEE.

This article discusses the use of fuzzy logic and a neural network to predict the demand for pharmaceutical products in a distributed network, in conditions of insufficient information, a large assortment and the influence of risk factors. A comprehensive approach to solving forecasting problems is proposed using: the theory of fuzzy logic - when forecasting emerging and unmet needs and a neural network - if there is a lot of retrospective information about the actual sale of drugs and drugs. Using this approach to solve the problems of forecasting demand allows you to get statistics and experience. Fairness concern behavior, a well-known cognitive bias, refers to a person’s attitude of dissatisfaction for unequal pay-offs in someone’s favor. Against environmental pollution, many firms are focused on green manufacturing to maintain sustainable development. The adoption of online shopping by customers around the globe has altered the dynamics of competitiveness in the retail supply chain (SC). Considering the above facts, the effect of fairness concern on optimal prices and channel members’ profits in a two-level dual channel SC is investigated. Here, we consider an SC comprising a green manufacturer and a fair-minded retailer where the manufacturer produces and sells the green product through both offline and online channels to consumers. Due to uncertainty in the real world, the fuzziness is associated with market demand, price elasticity, and the coefficient of greenness. The fuzzy objectives and constraints are reduced to crisp ones using expectation and possibility measures, respectively. Both centralized and decentralized models (with and without cognitive bias) are formulated and solved by the Stackelberg game for the optimal prices and product greenness level. The models’ optimal solutions are analyzed and compared with the deterministic models numerically. The effects of the fairness concern coefficient on the optimal prices, product greenness level, and channel members’ profits are investigated. The sensitivity analyses are presented to study the effects of the fuzzy degree of customers’ sensitivity toward greenness on channel members’ profits. Retailer’s fairness is harmful to the manufacturer but beneficial for her own profit. As memory transactions have been proposed as a language-level replacement for locks, there is growing need for well-defined semantics. In contrast to database transactions, transaction memory (TM) semantics are complicated by the fact that programs may access the same memory locations both inside and outside transactions. Strongly atomic semantics, where non-transactional accesses are treated as implicit single-operation transactions, remain difficult to provide without specialized hardware support or significant performance overhead. As an alternative, many in the community have informally proposed that a single global lock semantics [18, 10], where transaction semantics are mapped to those of regions protected by a single global lock, provide an intuitive and efficiently implementable model for programmers. In this paper, we explore the implementation and performance implications of single global lock semantics in a weakly atomic STM from the perspective of Java, and we discuss why even recent STM implementations fall short of these semantics. We describe a new weakly atomic Java STM implementation that provides single global lock semantics while permitting concurrent execution, but we show that this comes at a significant performance cost. We also propose and implement various alternative semantics that loosen single lock requirements while still providing strong guarantees. We compare our new implementations to previous ones, including a strongly atomic STM. [24] Copyright 2008 ACM.

This paper describes the process of identifying the state of a computer system based on tracking changes in the file system under the condition that there is no reliable information about the state of objects in the external environment and the state of the system itself. In this case, the performance indicators of a computer system are random variables with unknown distribution laws. A method for identifying the state of the computer system based on tracking changes in the file system using classical discriminative analysis, taking into account the uncertainty of the input data, is proposed. For this purpose, a special method was developed for solving a fuzzy system of linear algebraic equations. The software was developed for tracking changes in the computer file system: creating, modifying, renaming, and deleting files and directories. The program also performs state classification based on a fuzzy discriminant classifier. © 2019 IEEE.

An analysis of modern computer network intrusion detection systems was carried out. The application of machine and deep learning methods for classification problems has been investigated. The UNSW-NB15 dataset, developed at the Australian Cyber Security Center's (ACCS) Cyber Range Laboratory, contains data on normal network operations and synthetic intrusions. Data pre-processing was performed, including class balancing using the SMOTEENN method and selection of informative features using the Recursive Feature Elimination method. The possibility of using the stacking meta-algorithm to detect intrusions into computer networks has been investigated. A new algorithm for generating packets of raw data is proposed, which generates two sets of training data: one for training basic models, the other for a meta-model. A study of the effectiveness of using Random Forest, ANN, K Nearest Neighbor methods and Support Vector Machine and Random Forest as a decision-making meta-model was conducted. The use of the stacking meta-algorithm with the proposed algorithm for forming packets of output data, as well as basic models and a meta-model, led to a significant improvement in the quality of the model. It was found that, on average, recall and f1 score increased by 55.6% and 37.4%, respectively, compared to raw data and other models. ©2024 IEEE.

IoTGazePass is a new password scheme that has been designed to tackle the weaknesses of existing types of passwords. It is intended to be suitable for IoT applications. An experiment was conducted to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the IoTGazePass scheme (e.g., security, usability and memorability). The evaluation aspects include a comparison with traditional textual and graphical based passwords in terms of memorability and security of the passwords. The results of the evaluation indicate that the IoTGazePass scheme is easy to use, memorable and flexible, as it can generate strong, secure and scalable passwords. The experiment results have also showed that the IoTGazePass scheme have good ability to deal with shoulder surfing attacks. In fact, the experiment results lead to some recommendations and suggestions to improve the planned performance. © 2022 IEEE.

Integrating electrophysiological signals in larger systems is getting wider due to the fact that such modalities facilitate the daily tasks of users. However, the high cost of monitoring systems (e.g., oscilloscopes) limits the testing and analysis of the acquired signal from such noisy systems (i. e., electrophysiological devices). The proposed system is a part of a larger proj ect that deals with the identification of sign language movements through the use of Muscle-computer Interfaces. On one hand, the user is able to display the signal acquired by the electrodes on an LCD screen. On the other hand, the system helps a mute patient to issue a special message to his surrounding environment that does not know the sign language to ask for help. The second feature is not unique, as it can be replaced by any other application based on the user's needs. The system was tested on several persons, and the results are promising. © 2022 IEEE.

IEEEXtreme is an IEEE Student Activities Committee initiative to create a worldwide programming contest for IEEE Student Branches. The success of the past editions and the way IEEEXtreme is evolving, suggests that it will become the only worldwide competition capable of promoting the computer programming skills of collegiate students within a global software engineering approach of real-world programming problems. Real-world problems that require programming skills are invariably framed within a software engineering approach, where code writing is just the visible dimension of the global effort. Professionals are increasingly compelled to work in multidisciplinary contexts where soft skills are as important as technical ones. This reality should be expressly considered when educational courses are planned to teach programming techniques at undergraduate level. This paper discusses the positive impact that worldwide events like IEEEXtreme might have on the adoption of Problem Based Learning approaches in programming education at undergraduate computing degree programs. ©2009 IEEE.
