All freshman engineering students at York College participate in a spring semester design challenge as part of a year-long, two-course introduction to engineering. This paper describes the course organization, the project goals, and project itself and how it supports the broader engineering curriculum goals of engaging freshman engineering students in a design project, exposing them in an interesting way to the breath of engineering, and motivating them in their engineering studies. The students work in small teams and have roughly 12 weeks to design an automated electromechanical system that first transports three empty Snapple bottles, three tennis balls, and 36 oz. of water to a 2/x3/ operational zone. The machine must fill each bottle with 12 oz. of water, cap each bottle by covering the top with a tennis ball, and then deliver the capped and filled bottles to an area outside of the operational zone. The bottle-filling project serves as the second of two interdisciplinary engineering design experiences during the freshman year. It introduces aspects of computer, electrical, and mechanical engineering, including the following five primary knowledge areas: (i) machining and fabrication;(ii) electronic circuit prototyping and programming;(iii) sensor and actuator applications;(iv) mechanical design;(v) project planning;and (vi) presentation skills. A project demonstration at the end of the semester determines the relative effectiveness of each machine based upon a number of quantitative factors, including the total time required to complete the overall process, the volume of water in each bottle, the number of bottles successfully capped, the amount of water spilled, and approximate manufacturing cost. Some qualitative factors considered are simplicity, creativity, and aesthetics. Spectral analysis plays an important role in the interpretation of astronomical data. The determination of the number and parameters of each nested Gaussian curve on spectrum of any object in the sky gives information about the physical and chemical structure of the object. In this study, determination of each nested Gaussian curve's number and parameters such as position, width and amplitude in a given frequency range are performed. Thus, we have knowledge of about, which molecules there are in the observation region. Autonomous Gaussian Decomposition algorithm is implemented with additional scipy, numpy, h5py, lmfit packages. The algorithm is tested on spectral data that comes from active star forming region called as Orion KL obtained by SMA (Submillimeter Array) devices are used. Finally, information is given about positive and negative aspects of these study and in the future what should we do to improve the accuracy.

This paper presents a novel method on coloring the grayscale images. For this purpose, a combination of artificial neural networks and some image processing algorithms was developed to transfer colors from a user-selected source image to a target grayscale image. According to the results of this combining method, a survey where volunteers were asked to rate the plausibility of the colorings generated automatically was performed for individual images. In most cases automatically-colored images were rated either as totally or mostly acceptable.

For drawing electrical wiring diagram of buildings, mostly two dimensional CAD programs are used. Drawing is done starting from the source (utility pole) to main power panel and then it is distributed towards to subpanels. Then, end points such as sockets, lighting armature, etc are defined. In this study several algorithms are developed in order to evaluate different part of drawing project. Tree structure of drawing is analyzed and all materials to be used are decided based on an algorithm. Apart from these, some of the supplies to be used in project but not shown in the drawings are also be chosen with certain criteria. These decision systems will result in efficiency of overall cost of the project. In wire drawing one of the most important point is the line drawing with reference to an object. Apart from light outlet all wires are referenced to walls. Furthermore, all supplies shown in drawings are allocated with reference to walls and with an angle to walls. In wiring diagram drawings, standard CAD programs have no ability for wire drawing with reference to walls. Besides that, suggestion and selection of the most appropriate supplies is not possible. These increase drawing time and result in very high cost calculation errors. These algorithms provide fast and correct implementation. By analyzing drawings in a tree structure on which users have minimal impact, and with automatic selection of supplies all type of calculation mistakes are minimized.

Through the device, measurements are made, and statistics are accumulated based on which calculations are performed. The paper deals with the development of the method of activity and the realization of the intelligent agent (IA) for semantic analysis of the natural language software requirements. This IA performs the analysis of the requirements, determines the number and percentage of missing indicators for determining the metrics of complexity and quality of software, displays which indicators are missing for each metric, and also forms the real ontology of the domain "Software engineering" (part "Quality and complexity of software. Metric analysis"). During an experiment, which is conducted with the help of the realized IA, the semantic analysis of requirements for the Internet of Things (IoT)-system was performed. Such analysis provides an increase of the volume and ensures of the sufficiency of metric information in the software requirements, which, in turn, provides an improvement in the quality of the software of IoT-system.

Nowadays, the emerging wireless communication technologies cause rapid growth in radio spectrum usage. However, the radio spectrum is a limited resource and has almost been fully assigned by the current network operators (NOs). Although numerous studies have been accomplished on the spectrum management, there are rare evolutionary techniques dealing with booking spectrum on cognitive radio. Instant Overbooking Framework for Cognitive Radio networks (IOFCR) is used to maximize both spectrum utilization and the revenue of NOs under several over-booking and pricing policies. In such a network, when a primary user (PU) activity is sensed, the control of which requesting secondary users (SUs) can be denied and which Active SUs can be ejected is managed by IOFCR. In this paper, the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is applied into the IOFCR to find optimal values of the over-booking price and the Compensation Cost (CC) ratio to optimize revenue and achieve high performance.

In this work, classification of cellular structures in the high resolutional histopathological images and the discrimination of cellular and non-cellular structures have been investigated. The cell classification is a very exhaustive and time-consuming process for pathologists in medicine. The development of digital imaging in histopathology has enabled the generation of reasonable and effective solutions to this problem. Morever, the classification of digital data provides easier analysis of cell structures in histopathological data. Convolutional neural network (CNN), constituting the main theme of this study, has been proposed with different spatial window sizes in RGB color spaces. Hence, to improve the accuracies of classification results obtained by supervised learning methods, spatial information must also be considered. So, spatial dependencies of cell and non-cell pixels can be evaluated within different pixel neighborhoods in this study. In the experiments, the CNN performs superior than other pixel classification methods including SVM and k-Nearest Neighbour (k-NN). At the end of this paper, several possible directions for future research are also proposed.

This paper deals with a comparison between inventory followed by shortages model and shortages followed by inventory model with variable demand rate. It is assumed that the stock deteriorates over time which follows a two parameter Weibull distribution. Both the models are assumed fixed trade credit period to the retailer from the supplier. Autonomous Systems (AS) enable systems to adapt to drastic and unprecedented environmental changes, a capability that can be enhanced through the utilization of Digital Twins (DTs). However, the additional capabilities of AS come at the cost of explainability, as the expanding adaptation space complicates the reasoning about the system's behavior. For certain types of systems, it is crucial to ensure that specific properties are upheld despite the system's autonomous behavior. To facilitate the monitoring of these properties, we propose the use of Runtime Verification (RV). This tutorial demonstrates the integration of RV tools into the Digital Twins as a Service (DTaaS) platform to monitor and verify the behavior of AS in real-time. By exploring various methods to incorporate RV tools within a DT context, the tutorial aims to advance the application of RV technologies in autonomic computing and self-adaptive system design. Specifically, we demonstrate how the behavior of a self-configuring DT can be verified utilizing RV. This is accomplished through the DTaaS platform, which supports seamless deployment of DT-based AS. © 2024 IEEE.
