Evaluating student performance is important for universities and institutions in the current student education landscape because it helps them create models that work better for students. The automation of various features related to fundamental student traits and behaviours that manage massive amounts of data efficiently processes these. To handle student records that included information about students' behaviour and how it related to their academic performance, the companies employed models of classification with mining concepts. Additionally, the quality of result classification can be substantially improved by using learning analytics and Educational Data Mining (EDM). The educational establishments are making an effort to lower the low student performance. To address this issue, numerous methods for assessing student performance have been devised, allowing the relevant faculties to intervene and enhance the final product. Three classes - Low Performance Student, Average Student, and Smart Student - were created using the K-Mean Clustering methodology for classifying student records. Features including grade point, number of deficits, student attendance, medium of education, and board of education are taken into account when classifying the data. In this case, the WEKA tool is also utilized for implementing the model and outcome assessments. © 2024 IEEE.

Joint safety and security analysis of cyber-physical systems is a necessary step to correctly capture inter-dependencies between these properties. Attack-Fault Trees represent a combination of dynamic Fault Trees and Attack Trees and can be used to model and model-check a holistic view on both safety and security. Manually creating a complete AFT for the whole system is, however, a daunting task. It needs to span multiple abstraction layers, e.g., abstract application architecture and data flow as well as system and library dependencies that are affected by various vulnerabilities. We present an AFT generation tool-chain that facilitates this task using partial Fault and Attack Trees that are either manually created or mined from vulnerability databases. We semi-automatically create two system models that provide the necessary information to automatically combine these partial Fault and Attack Trees into complete AFTs using graph transformation rules. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

An analysis of the signaling systems used in the Intelligent Communication Network has been carried out. The main probabilistic characteristics of signal information delay are determined. A method for calculating these characteristics for such error correction methods is proposed: basic error control method and preventive cyclical control method. The analysis of the delay of signal units from loading the signal network is carried out. Simple formulas are proposed for approximating the load applied to the signaling link. © 2022 IEEE.

Cyber theft is a serious threat to Internet security. It is one of the major security concerns by both network service providers and Internet users. Though sensitive information can be encrypted when stored in non-volatile memory such as hard disks, for many e-commerce and network applications, sensitive information is often stored as plaintext in main memory. Documented and reported exploits facilitate an adversary stealing sensitive information from an application's memory. These exploits include illegitimate memory scan, information theft oriented buffer overflow, invalid pointer manipulation, integer overflow, password stealing Trojans and so forth. Today's computing system and its hardware cannot address these exploits effectively in a coherent way. This paper presents a unified and lightweight solution, called InfoShield that can strengthen application protection against theft of sensitive information such as passwords, encryption keys, and other private data with a minimal performance impact. Unlike prior whole memory encryption and information flow based efforts, InfoShield protects the usage of information. InfoShield ensures that sensitive data are used only as defined by application semantics, preventing misuse of information. Comparing with prior art, InfoShield handles a broader range of information theft scenarios in a unified framework with less overhead. Evaluation using popular network client-server applications shows that InfoShield is sound for practical use and incurs little performance loss because InfoShield only protects absolute, critical sensitive information. Based on the profiling results, only 0.3% of memory accesses and 0.2% of executed codes are affected by InfoShield.

The covid-19 pandemic and Economic Policy Uncertainty resulting from the shutdown of production, withdrawal of investments, enforcement of lockdowns and quarantines globally, have been directly affecting stock markets worldwide. This study is thus an attempt to analyse the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on stock market behaviour in major affected economies. Moreover, the time frame was extended by using current data which investigate the impact of the virus during the boom and the blast phase in the country's most hit by the pandemic crisis such as China, Italy, UK and US. The frequency of the data is daily, and it dates from 3 January 2020 up to 10 February 2021. The considered time framework will give a deep insight into how stock markets behave in the case of an exogenous shock. The Dickey-Fuller Augmented Unit Root Test indicates that all the variables are stationary at first difference, which is one of the main conditions to have robust result, and the ARCH-LM test for the heteroskedasticity of the residuals, which show that all the probability values are significant, rejecting the null hypothesis of no ARCH effect. Based on the results of GARCH (1,1), we conclude that the change in stock markets volatility is positive and significant in China, Italy, UK and USA. This suggests that the impacts of COVID-19 outbreak and economic policy uncertainty on Stock Markets are a significant and Homogeneous across the studied countries, and the shock on FTSE Italia All Share has the longest time to vanish which makes it the riskiest to invest during this period, while the shock on SP500 USA has the shortest time to disappear meaning that it is safest Stock Market in this study. These findings have significant implications for policymakers, institutional and individual investors and Financial Markets analysts. © 2022 IET Conference Proceedings. All rights reserved.

A multi-language-based data interface system for heterogeneous distributed processing is introduced. A prototyped environment based on this system is discussed, and an evaluation of the prototyped system is presented. It is shown that by keeping the syntax of the specification language flexible and close to existing high-level languages, a user can learn the interface language quickly. Semantically, this data interface views structured data as consisting of two parts: the data values themselves and the representation of the structure among the data values. Through this separation, it is possible to have pipelined data type checking and data conversion operations.< >

Warehouses are an important logistic component of various companies. Warehouses may have different layouts, equipment and their own features. Optimization of warehouse operations can decrease overhead costs and increase the economic efficiency of industry. The technological process of steel sheet production at a metallurgical company includes two major stages: casting of liquid steel into billets and rolling of these billets on a rolling mill. In order to coordinate the productivity of these two stages and to be able to fulfill orders promptly, a warehouse of slabs (billets) is used. Billets of different parties and steel grades are stored in stacks. The billets are moved to the warehouse for storage and from the warehouse to the rolling mill by bridge cranes. In this paper the problem of optimization of the process of continuous cast billets storage is solved to minimize the number of slab handling operations. The problem is decomposed into two subproblems SLAP (Storage Location Assignment Problem) and CSP (Crane Scheduling Problem). A modified genetic algorithm was applied to solve the problem. Using a simulation model of the warehouse, the efficiency of the algorithm was evaluated using different approaches to take the restrictions imposed on the process of slab handling into account. It is shown that the most effective is the algorithm in which there is no restriction on the placement of stacks of billets belonging to one melting._

The algorithm of the dynamic control functions achieves a complex modeling regarding the behavior of any mechanical robot structure. Dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS) is an effective technique for controlling microprocessor energy and performance. Existing DVFS techniques are primarily based on hardware, OS time-interrupts, or static-compiler techniques. However, substantially greater gains can be realized when control opportunities are also explored in a dynamic compilation environment. There are several advantages to deploying DVFS and managing energy/performance tradeoffs through the use of a dynamic compiler. Most importantly, dynamic compiler driven DVFS is fine-grained, code-aware, and adaptive to the current microarchitecture environment. This paper presents a design framework of the run-time DVFS optimizer in a general dynamic compilation system. A prototype of the DVFS optimizer is implemented and integrated into an industrial-strength dynamic compilation system. The obtained optimization system is deployed in a real hardware platform that directly measures CPU voltage and current for accurate power and energy readings. Experimental results, based on physical measurements for over 40 SPEC or Olden benchmarks, show that significant energy savings are achieved with little performance degradation. SPEC2K FP benchmarks benefit with energy savings of up to 70% (with 0.5% performance loss). In addition, SPEC2K INT show up to 44% energy savings (with 5% performance loss), SPEC95 FP save up to 64% (with 4.9% performance loss), and Olden save up to 61% (with 4.5% performance loss). On average, the technique leads to an energy delay product (EDP) improvement that is 3times-5times better than static voltage scaling, and is more than 2times (22% vs. 9%) better than the reported DVFS results of prior static compiler work. While the proposed technique is an effective method for microprocessor voltage and frequency control, the design framework and methodology described in this paper have broader potential to address other energy and power issues such as di/dt and thermal control

The principles of solving the multicriteria problem of retail marketing for the rational choice of the location of trade enterprises (alternatives) based on the classical method of analysis of Saaty hierarchies, using the theory of fuzzy sets, are considered. The choice of the best alternative is carried out on the basis of the arguments of the maxima (abbreviated arg max), as the arguments, which are evaluated based on the operation of intersection of fuzzy sets of criteria.
