It my great pleasure and honor to welcome you to FoSER 2010: The FSE/SDP Workshop on the Future of Software engineering Research. This workshop was organized in collaboration with and made possible by generous support from the Software Design and Productivity Coordinating Group (SDP) of the U.S. National Coordination Office (NCO) for Networking and Information Technology Research and Development (NITRD), and the National Science Foundation (NSF). This one-time, international working conference has brought together top academic and industrial researchers and government research funding agency personnel from around the world to engage in an extended discussion of consequential new ideas about the future of our field. The ideas produced by this workshop will be disseminated in two forms. First, the position papers accepted by the program committee will be published in a companion to the Proceedings of FSE-18. Second, the workshop findings will be published subsequently in a special report by NITRD/SDP. The call for papers for FoSER 2010 solicited 4-page position papers with new ideas about the future of software and software-reliant systems, and the research that will be needed to meet future needs. Papers were expected to be creative and thought-provoking, and to articulate compelling new perspectives, positions, problem formulations, assumptions and approaches. The workshop did not seek, and did not accept, technical research papers or abstracts. The workshop received a total of 139 position papers. Of these, 90 papers (65%) were accepted. Each paper was reviewed by at least two members of the workshop program committee. The committee was asked to accept all papers presenting significant new ideas about how our field should move forward. Copyright 2010 ACM.

Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) algorithms with multiple autonomous robots have received considerable attention in recent years. In general, SLAM algorithms use odometry information and measurements from exteroceptive sensors of robots. The accuracy of these measurements and the performance of the corresponding SLAM algorithm directly affect the overall success of the system. This paper presents comparative performance evaluations of three Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) algorithms using Extended Kalman Filter (EKF), Compressed Extended Kalman Filter (CEKF) and Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF). Specifically, it focuses on their SLAM performances and processing time requirements. To show the effect of CPU power on the processing time of SLAM algorithms, two notebooks and a netbook with different specifications have been used. Comparative simulation results show that processing time requirements are consistent with the computational complexities of SLAM algorithms. The results we obtained are consistent with the CPU power tests of independent organizations and show that higher processing power decreases processing time accordingly. The results also show that CEKF is more suitable for outdoor SLAM applications where there are a lot of natural and artificial features.

The covid-19 pandemic and Economic Policy Uncertainty resulting from the shutdown of production, withdrawal of investments, enforcement of lockdowns and quarantines globally, have been directly affecting stock markets worldwide. This study is thus an attempt to analyse the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on stock market behaviour in major affected economies. Moreover, the time frame was extended by using current data which investigate the impact of the virus during the boom and the blast phase in the country's most hit by the pandemic crisis such as China, Italy, UK and US. The frequency of the data is daily, and it dates from 3 January 2020 up to 10 February 2021. The considered time framework will give a deep insight into how stock markets behave in the case of an exogenous shock. The Dickey-Fuller Augmented Unit Root Test indicates that all the variables are stationary at first difference, which is one of the main conditions to have robust result, and the ARCH-LM test for the heteroskedasticity of the residuals, which show that all the probability values are significant, rejecting the null hypothesis of no ARCH effect. Based on the results of GARCH (1,1), we conclude that the change in stock markets volatility is positive and significant in China, Italy, UK and USA. This suggests that the impacts of COVID-19 outbreak and economic policy uncertainty on Stock Markets are a significant and Homogeneous across the studied countries, and the shock on FTSE Italia All Share has the longest time to vanish which makes it the riskiest to invest during this period, while the shock on SP500 USA has the shortest time to disappear meaning that it is safest Stock Market in this study. These findings have significant implications for policymakers, institutional and individual investors and Financial Markets analysts.

The paper evaluates the influence of wire thickness and insulation material on its heating temperature during operation. The temperature and time characteristics of wire exploitation under conditions of different load currents are analysed. The ranges of the wire temperature increase during operation are determined for wires with insulation made of polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, enamel, and rubber.

Industrial Internet of NanoThings (IIoNT) traffic model proposed. The model is based on the developed algorithm for Dynamic Data Composition Control. The application of the algorithm made it possible to reduce the total amount of transmitted information from the end nodes of IIoNT. The model made it possible to determine the parameters of aggregation traffic of IIoNT cluster gateway. With the calculated parameters, the value of the aggregated package is maximized. The main limitation is not exceeding the value of the boundary delay for the transmission of sensor readings. The model also allows you to dynamically determine the required amount of the gateway buffer memory.

This paper discusses the structural organization of the background monitoring system (BMS) of the transboundary UNESCO World Heritage Site “Beech forests of the Carpathians and ancient beech forests of Germany” using actual data and information from Gorgany Nature Reserve in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine. The features of the structure and functions of background monitoring of the protected natural resources, forests and wildlife of Gorgany Nature Reserve is based on modern methods of collecting and processing of digital data, implementation of the principles of Internet of Things and cloud technologies, combined with GPS-systems, sensor networks with the use of optical and fiber-optic telecommunication channels. The information technology of the background monitoring system is based on figurative cluster models of monitoring objects according to theoretical principles of statistical, correlatory, spectral, cluster, logic-statistical and entropy analysis.

Chronic back pain can present a serious health concern, with symptoms that can significantly affect an individual's well-being, mobility, and overall quality of life over an extended period. While chronic back pain may manifest suddenly in some cases, it often develops gradually and persists for weeks, and in untreated cases, it can linger for years. Hence, the utilization of assistive devices such as wearable posture-monitoring vests can offer valuable assistance and guidance to users. This research paper is dedicated to the development of a system for detecting, diagnosing, and correcting poor posture, specifically leaning posture. The vest is designed to provide users with visual, auditory, and tactile cues to help them address this issue, thereby reducing the risk associated with leaning. Additionally, an integrated electrical box has been designed to consolidate all components directly onto the main board in a secure enclosure. This box also displays the daily count of instances where the user has leaned. This system is characterized by its electrical safety, portability, compactness, comfort, and affordability. A comprehensive analysis of the system's performance has been conducted with a meticulous evaluation of accuracy. Each component of the system has undergone successful testing, and the system as a whole is currently in the testing phase. The results of these tests have indicated a lack of faulty errors and have demonstrated outstanding accuracy and detection rates. Over 100 individuals of varying ages, genders, and BMI categories were involved in testing, with each person wearing the device for an average of six hours. The accuracy rate achieved was 98.85%, with an average of 54.35 instances of poor posture detected per participant.

This document presents the development of an informational model of instrumental examination of a patient using the data flow diagrams (DFD). The developed informational model of the instrumental examination is presented in the form of a context diagram, its decomposition, and the decomposition of the subsystems «Registration and analysis of biomedical signals and images with locally concentrated features» and «Diagnostics». Taking into account the proposed information model, UML diagrams of the activity of the biomedical decision support system based on morphological analysis of biomedical signals and images with locally concentrated features, of the module for morphological analysis of an electrocardiogram, and of the module for improving the quality of visualization of biological objects on radiological images based on the IMRI method are developed.

A developed adaptive forecasting model for cloud resource allocation is presented. It employs principal component analysis on a sequence of virtual machine (VM) requests. Requests are processed to detect anomalies, and adaptive predictions are computed using EEMD-ARIMA or EEMD-RT-ARIMA methods. The choice between EEMD-ARIMA and EEMD-RT-ARIMA methods is determined by comparing the execution time values ${\mathrm {R}}_{\mathrm {{i}}}$ (sequential series test) with the threshold value ${\mathrm {R}}_{\mathrm {{t d}}}$. If ${\mathrm {R}}_{\mathrm {{i}}} \gt {\mathrm {Rtd}}$, EEMD-ARIMA is used; if ${\mathrm {R}}_{\mathrm {{i}}} \leq {\mathrm {R}}_{\mathrm {{t d}}}$, EEMD-RT-ARIMA is applied. This adaptive approach enables the selection of a prediction method based on data characteristics and resource demands. To optimize the selection of the ${\mathrm {R}}_{\mathrm {{t d}}}$ threshold, the impact on accuracy and time costs is examined. A quartile method is utilized to detect dynamic spikes, and cubic spline interpolation is employed to smooth data. EEMDRT-ARIMA-based forecasting enhances accuracy through preprocessing of dynamic spikes and adaptive method selection. Calculations of time costs indicate that this method reduces forecasting time by 1.5 times by extracting core component sequences.
