Diagnostics is one of the significant parameters of functional safety which concerns itself with revealing dangerous incidents that might impede the operation of safety systems. Diagnostic coverage factor (DC) is defined as a metric for diagnostics in that DC is one of the most important design parameters to measure the effectiveness of safety protection systems. This study addresses how diagnostics impacts proof test interval (TI) when the system is halted completely;a thorough maintenance and changes in parts are performed. Besides this, the relationship between average probability of failure on demand (PFDavg), DC, TI and mean time to failure (MTTF) are presented for 1oo2 and 1oo2D system architectures. © 2014 IEEE.

The process of extracting meaningful rules from big and complex data is called data mining. Data mining has an increasing popularity in every field today. Data units are established in customer-oriented industries such as marketing, finance and telecommunication to work on the customer churn and acquisition, in particular. Among the data mining methods, classification algorithms are used in studies conducted for customer acquisition to predict the potential customers of the company in question in the related industry. In this study, bank marketing data set in UCI Machine Learning Data Set was used by creating models with the same classification algorithms in different data mining programs. Accuracy, precision and f- measure criteria were used to test performances of the classification models. When creating the classification models, the test and training data sets were randomly divided by the holdout method to evaluate the performance of the data set. The data set was divided into training and test data sets with the 60-40%, 75, 25% and 80-20% separation ratios. Data mining programs used for these processes are the R, Knime, RapidMiner and WEKA. And, classification algorithms commonly used in these platforms are the k-nearest neighbor (k-nn), Naive Bayes, and C4.5 decision tree. © 2018 IEEE.

A polydyne cam and knife follower system are studied. The effect of cam angular velocity and follower guides internal dimensions on Lyapunov parameter is considered. Wolf algorithm is used to quantify largest Lyapunov exponent parameter. The impact between the cam, follower and the two guides is occurred due to the impulse and momentum phenomenon. Positive value of Lyapunov exponent parameter indicates to non-periodic motion and chaos for the follower. Non-periodic motion is examined using power spectrum analysis of Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and phase plane diagram. The numerical simulation has been done using SolidWorks software. Smart Home is indeed a broad concept which includes the techniques and systems applied to living spaces. While its main goal is to reduce the consumption of energy, it provides many benefits including living in comfort, security and increasing flexibility. Smart homes are achieved through networking, control and automation technologies. Since smart homes offer more comfort and security and provide novel innovative services, people with disabilities or the elderly can take the advantages and improve their life quality. However, for such novel services, an analytical infrastructure which can manage overall data flow provided by various sensors, understand anomalous behaviour, and make necessary decisions. In this study, for efficient data handling and visualisation, an integrated smart service approach based on the use of a smart vest is proposed. The smart vest plays a key role in the proposed system since it provides the main health parameters of the monitored person to the smart home service and enables tracking of the monitored person's location. The proposed system offers many benefits to both people with disabilities and the elderly and their families in terms of increased efficiency of health care service and comfort for the monitored person. It can also reduce the cost of health care services by reducing the number of periodical visits.

This model considers the strategy that supplier offers retailer a full trade-credit policy whereas retailer offers their customers a partial trade-credit policy. For such assumption, retailer can earn more profits. In this supplier–retailer model, deterioration of products is assumed as exponential. The main purpose is to minimize the retailer’s annual total cost with finite replenishment rate. Graphical representations are given under different circumstances. The analytical derivation of the model is given to obtain the minimum cost. Some numerical examples for different cases are provided to illustrate the model. © 2014, Springer India Pvt. Ltd.

A digital image is usually stored as a two-dimensional matrix consisting of numerical values of the intensity of each color;for example, Red-Green-Blue (RGB). This fact allows a possibility of manipulation of the image data, including making measurements based on the images of a moving object. This paper presents a new approach for estimating distances between the centers of geometric shapes based on image analysis. The algorithm is based on determining the parameters of the matrices - the number of rows and columns of graphic images of target plates and creating vectors of the sums of their values. As a result of such manipulations, peaks (maxima, minima) are formed that coincide with the centers of the squares and circles displayed on the target plates. These peaks are the coordinates of the target centers. © 2021 IEEE.

Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) algorithms with multiple autonomous robots have received considerable attention in recent years. In general, SLAM algorithms use odometry information and measurements from exteroceptive sensors of robots. The accuracy of these measurements and the performance of the corresponding SLAM algorithm directly affect the overall success of the system. This paper presents comparative performance evaluations of three Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) algorithms using Extended Kalman Filter (EKF), Compressed Extended Kalman Filter (CEKF) and Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF). Specifically, it focuses on their SLAM performances and processing time requirements. To show the effect of CPU power on the processing time of SLAM algorithms, two notebooks and a netbook with different specifications have been used. Comparative simulation results show that processing time requirements are consistent with the computational complexities of SLAM algorithms. The results we obtained are consistent with the CPU power tests of independent organizations and show that higher processing power decreases processing time accordingly. The results also show that CEKF is more suitable for outdoor SLAM applications where there are a lot of natural and artificial features. © 2012 IEEE.

With single thread performance starting to plateau, HW architects have turned to chip level multiprocessing (CMP) to increase processing power. All major microprocessor companies are aggressively shipping multi-core products in the mainstream computing market. Moore's law will largely be used to increase HW thread-level parallelism through higher core counts in a CMP environment. CMPs bring new challenges into the design of the software system stack. In this tutorial, we talk about the shift to multi-core processors and the programming implications. In particular, we focus on transactional programming. Transactions have emerged as a promising alternative to lock-based synchronization that eliminates many of the problems associated with lock-based synchronization. We discuss the design of both hardware and software transactional memory and quantify the tradeoffs between the different design points. We show how to extend the Java and C languages with transactional constructs, and how to integrate transactions with compiler optimizations and the language runtime (e.g., memory manager and garbage collection).

Warehouses are an important logistic component of various companies. Warehouses may have different layouts, equipment and their own features. Optimization of warehouse operations can decrease overhead costs and increase the economic efficiency of industry. The technological process of steel sheet production at a metallurgical company includes two major stages: casting of liquid steel into billets and rolling of these billets on a rolling mill. In order to coordinate the productivity of these two stages and to be able to fulfill orders promptly, a warehouse of slabs (billets) is used. Billets of different parties and steel grades are stored in stacks. The billets are moved to the warehouse for storage and from the warehouse to the rolling mill by bridge cranes. In this paper the problem of optimization of the process of continuous cast billets storage is solved to minimize the number of slab handling operations. The problem is decomposed into two subproblems SLAP (Storage Location Assignment Problem) and CSP (Crane Scheduling Problem). A modified genetic algorithm was applied to solve the problem. Using a simulation model of the warehouse, the efficiency of the algorithm was evaluated using different approaches to take the restrictions imposed on the process of slab handling into account. It is shown that the most effective is the algorithm in which there is no restriction on the placement of stacks of billets belonging to one melting. © 2024 IEEE.

The details of future failures of systems that are serially produced are important for the remanufacturing departments to frame an optimal strategy for the post series supply. The existing one-dimensional and two-dimensional reliability prediction models predict field failures as a function of time based on the stress which the components/systems experience in the field until failure. In day-to-day situations the failure forecasts depend on many external factors like registration delay, which is the delay between the production of a system and its registration in market, reporting delay, which is the delay between the field failure and its reporting time, the export of vehicles to other countries or permanent damage caused to the vehicles. The improvement procedures are integrated into the existing reliability forecast models to reduce the incompleteness of the warranty data due to the influence of external factors using MATLAB. The verification process is to compare the forecasted field failures by the existing models with the actual field failures. The prognosis is carried out based on different failures data sets. With the help of sales data from Original Equipment Manufacturers, the forecasted failures Year to Date are verified.
