Dialogue policy trains an agent to select dialogue actions frequently implemented via deep reinforcement learning (DRL). The model-based reinforcement methods built a world model to generate simulated data to alleviate the sample inefficiency. However, traditional world model methods merely consider one-step dialogues, leading to an inaccurate environmental simulation. Furthermore, different users may have different intention preferences, while most existing studies lack consideration of the intention-preferences causal relationship. This paper proposes a novel framework for dialogue policy learning named MCA, implemented through model-based reinforcement learning with automatically constructed causal chains. The MCA model utilizes an autoregressive Transformer to model dialogue trajectories, enabling a more accurate simulation of the environment. Additionally, it constructs a causal chains module that outputs latent preference distributions for intention-action pairs, thereby elucidating the relationship between user intentions and agent actions. The experimental results show that MCA can achieve state-of-the-art performances on three dialogue datasets over the compared dialogue agents, highlighting its effectiveness and robustness. © 2025 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Models play a crucial role in software design, analysis, and supporting new maintainers. However, over time, the benefits of models can diminish as system implementations evolve without corresponding updates to the original models. Reverse engineering methods and tools can help maintain alignment between models and implementation code. Yet, automatically reverse-engineered models often lack abstraction and contain extensive details that hinder comprehension. Recent advancements in AI-based content generation suggest that we may soon see reverse engineering tools capable of human-grade abstraction. To guide the design and validation of such tools, we need a principled understanding of manual abstraction—a topic that has received limited attention in existing literature. In pursuit of this goal, our paper presents a multiple-case study of model-to-code differences, examining nine substantial open-source software projects obtained through repository mining. We manually matched source code from projects comprising 4983 classes, 26k attributes, and 54k operations to 523 model elements (including classes, attributes, operations, and relationships). These mappings precisely capture discrepancies between provided class diagram designs and actual implementation code. By analyzing these differences in detail, we derive a taxonomy of difference types and provide a well-organized list of cases corresponding to identified differences. Our findings have the potential to contribute to improved reverse engineering methods and tools, propose new mapping rules for model-to-code consistency checks, and offer guidelines to avoid over-abstraction and over-specification during the design process. © The Author(s) 2025.

In the last few years, combining multiple algorithms to improve the performance of machine learning models has been a common practice. However, its application to stress detection still needs to be explored. This paper uses a stacking ensemble technique to introduce a novel stress classification approach using electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. Specifically, the study evaluates the effectiveness of various classifiers, including Random Forest (RF), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Gradient Boosting (GB), Naive Bayes (NB), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Logistic Regression (LR), Decision Tree (DT), and Adaboost (AB), individually and in combination with RF as the base model, for stress classification tasks. The paper uses the SAM40 Dataset consisting of 32-channel EEG data to extract features in time and frequency domains for stress classification. The results show that the stacked classifiers outperform single classifiers, with RF + KNN providing the highest accuracy of 98.55%. The findings suggest that a stacked classifier is a promising approach for stress classification, as it can leverage the strengths of different algorithms and improve generalization performance. It holds promising future applicability in personalized stress management, healthcare interventions, and addressing societal concerns related to mental well-being. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

A collaborative system that includes mobile devices (MDs), edge nodes (ENs), and the cloud is needed where ENs at the network edge can run offloaded tasks of MDs with limited resources and energy for timely processing for latency-sensitive applications. Unlike existing studies, we formulate a total cost minimization problem for the system for applications, which can be divided into several interdependent subtasks. Each subtask can be executed in MDs, ENs, and the cloud. This work formulates a mixed-integer nonlinear program to minimize the total system cost. To address it, a novel meta-heuristic optimization algorithm called Genetic Simulated-annealing-based Particle swarm optimization with Auto-Encoder (GSPAE) is proposed, which innovatively combines feature extraction of deep learning and global search of meta-heuristic optimization. Genetic operations provide diverse solutions, the Metropolis acceptance of annealing offers a robust global search, and autoencoders (AEs) extract distribution characteristics of particles toward high-quality regions for fast convergence. Thus, GSPAE optimizes the associations between ENs and MDs and the scheduling of subtasks among MDs, ENs, and the cloud. Experiments with large-scale Google cluster datasets show that compared to state-of-the-art benchmark methods, GSPAE reduces the total cost by at least 17% while strictly meeting limits of application latency, available energy, computing, and communication resources of ENs and MDs. © 2014 IEEE.

After adopting 5G technology, businesses and academia have started working on sixth-generation wireless networking (6G) technologies. Mobile communications options are expected to expand in areas where previous generations could not do so. 6G networks are anticipated to be constructed using various diverse technologies. These encompass diverse cutting-edge advancements, such as distributed ledger systems like blockchain, visible light communications (VLC), post-quantum cryptography, edge computing, molecular communication, THz, and other advances. These advances necessitate a reassessment of previous security strategies from a security perspective. In the future, networks must adhere to stricter criteria for authentication, encryption, access control, connectivity, and detection of harmful activities. Ensuring privacy and dependability necessitates the implementation of supplementary security protocols. The essay explores the primary concerns and challenges related to the security of the 6G network. This paper describes the improvements in security in communications from 1G through 6G. This paper divides security in the sixth generation into three layers: physical, connection, and service. Each layer-by-layer discusses the standard technologies and security issues for each technology proposed in each sixth-generation security layer. All proposed solutions for each of the three layers are discussed in Sixth Generation Security. It also reviews all proposed solutions for each layer, indicating the proposed solution and its limitations. © The Author(s) 2025.

Evaluation of Electronic Medical Certification (EMC) is integral to today's healthcare systems since they are a consolidated database of individual patients' medical histories. Security measures and privacy issues are standard in electronic medical certification. Incompatible systems make sharing data across healthcare providers difficult, which may lead to data breaches and a lack of patient authority over their medical data. Blockchain has become essential for real-world corporate applications where confidentiality of information is paramount. The handling of security in medical records through a decentralized peer-to-peer network might be revolutionized by blockchain technology and improving the protection of the interchange of healthcare records. This study proposes a lightweight flask framework-based blockchain strategy to store and display patient status and transaction log information about their disease diagnosis. In a potential Blockchain system, the diseased patients act as assets, and their records contain any prior illnesses as blocks. The report analyzes a lot of national and international EHR standards. It identifies which of these interoperability needs to be addressed, discusses the interoperability challenges in but also outlines the standards. Current blockchain-based EHR frameworks. Without the suggested has the requirement for centralized systems. By using this framework, the healthcare industry can be provided safer ways to while also providing the exchange of health information. It offers features of immutability, security, and user control over stored records. This work contributes to an understanding of what potential Blockchain technology has offered an interoperable application in the EHR frameworks. Meet the blockchain-based EHR framework. Image generation in 2D and 3D has become an active research topic in Deep Learning. Single or multiple input images with non-orthogonal views are used for another shape and texture with different viewing angles. On the other hand, computer-Aided Design (CAD) relies on handling-based 3D generation, i.e., isometric view images, from three orthographic view line drawings in 2D. However, since unique viewing pairs of such 2D and 3D images are required to train, SOTA models are insufficient to generate desirable images. More spatial and geometrical constraints remain undone due to less corresponding image features between images. This paper proposes IsoTGAN with a GAN-based generator with the Transformer in its generator, where three images of an object’s front, side, and top view are input. The encoder is trained by the spatial and geometrical relation among three view images. A novel Gaussian Enhanced Euclidean attention mechanism and a geometry-constrained loss function are also proposed for further local image feature enhancement. Extensive experiments on the SPARE3D dataset demonstrate that the proposed IsoTGAN outperforms State-of-the-art (SOTA) models, i.e., DINO, regarding local and global image feature accuracy. Emergency response is any systematic response to unexpected events that pose potential risk and/or damage to human life or property. Outbreak of virus, leak of poisonous chemicals, and terrorist attack are just a few examples. The goal of emergency response is to minimize the adverse impact of an incident to society and the environment. To guarantee the implementation of its handling procedure, adequate resources must be available. The success of emergency response also relies on the timeliness of related rescue actions. This paper presents resource-oriented timed workflow nets for the modeling and analysis of the resource requirements in responding to an emergency incident, as well as the time required to complete prescribed response tasks. This new model provides a formal basis for process designers and practitioners to examine the readiness and efficiency of their emergency plans. The presented algorithm can be applied to workflows with sequential, concurrent, decision-making and repetitive structures. A case study on chemical spill response is presented to illustrate the application of the proposed model. © 2013 IEEE.

In the evolving landscape of supply chain management, the integration of radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology has marked a significant milestone. This development has led to the emergence of a new system in RFID-based supply chain management, which is intricately linked with the advances in the Internet of Things (IoT). RFID technology employs electromagnetic fields to identify and track tags on objects and revolutionizes the management and tracking of items in the supply chain. However, the public communication among RFID tags, RFID readers, and supply chain infrastructure predominantly escalates security and privacy challenges. Several authentication protocols have been proposed to overcome these challenges. However, the vulnerability of most proposed protocols to numerous security attacks renders them inefficient. Therefore, to address these crucial challenges, we devised an RFID-based authentication protocol for supply chain management systems. The incorporation of a physically unclonable function (PUF) into the protocol fortifies the system against physical tampering attacks. To validate the security and effectiveness of the devised protocol, both informal and formal security analysis are conducted. The formal security analysis is conducted using the widely used random oracle model. The informal security analysis reveals that the devised protocol provides enhanced and efficient security features. Furthermore, we perform a comparative analysis with related protocols, focusing on critical performance metrics like communication cost, computation cost, and overall security features. The results of the comparative analysis are promising, indicating a substantial 30.92% reduction in computational cost and a 23.98% reduction in communication cost in comparison to related protocols, thus highlighting the protocol’s superior performance and resource efficiency. © 2014 IEEE.
