Trust-based solutions provide some form of payment to peers to encourage good behavior. The problem with trust management systems is that they require prior knowledge to work. In other words, peers are vulnerable to attack if they do not have knowledge or correct knowledge of other peers in a trust management system. Therefore, considering only trust is inadequate when a decision is made to identify the best set of peers to utilize. In order to solve the problem, we propose a distributed decision-making mechanism for wireless P2P networks based on game theory and relevant trust mechanisms in which we incorporate the element of trust and risk into a single mode. The main idea of our mechanism is to use utility function to express the relationship between benefits and costs of peers, and then make the decision based on expected utility as well as risk attitude in a fully distributed fashion. The unique feature of our mechanism is that it not only helps a peer to select its partners, but also mitigates vulnerabilities in trust-based mechanisms. Through analysis and experiments, we believe our approach is useful for peers to make the decision regarding who to interact with. In addition, it is also a good starting point for exploring tradeoffs among risk, trust and utility.

The Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence, in cooperation with Stanford University's department of computer Science, was pleased to present the 2009 Spring Symposium Series, held Monday through Wednesday, March 23-25, 2009, at Stanford University. The titles of the nine symposia were Agents That Learn from Human Teachers, Benchmarking of Qualitative Spatial and Temporal Reasoning systems, Experimental Design for Real- World systems, Human Behavior Modeling, Intelligent Event Processing, Intelligent Narrative Technologies II, Learning by Reading and Learning to Read, Social Semantic Web: Where Web 2.0 Meets Web 3.0, and Technosocial Predictive Analytics. The goal of the Agents That Learn from Human Teachers symposium was to investigate how we can enable software and robotics agents to leam from real-time interaction with an everyday human partner. The aim of the Benchmarking of Qualitative Spatial and Temporal Reasoning systems symposium was to initiate the development of a problem repository in the field of qualitative spatial and temporal reasoning and identify a graded set of challenges for future midterm and long-term research. The Experimental Design symposium discussed the challenges of evaluating AI systems. The Human Behavior Modeling symposium explored reasoning methods for understanding various aspects of human behavior, especially in the context of designing intelligent systems that interact with humans. The Intelligent Event Processing symposium discussed the need for more Al-based approaches in event pro-cessing and defined a kind of research agenda for the field, coined as intelligent complex event processing (iCEP). The Intelligent Narrative Technologies IIAAAI symposium discussed innovations, progress, and novel techniques in the research domain. The Learning by Reading and Learning to Read symposium explored two aspects of making natural language texts semantically accessible to, and processable by, machines. The Social Semantic

Cloud computing aims to power the next generation data centers and enables application service providers to lease data center capabilities for deploying applications depending on user QoS (Quality of Service) requirements. Cloud applications have different composition, configuration, and deployment requirements. Quantifying the performance of resource allocation policies and application scheduling algorithms at finer details in Cloud computing environments for different application and service models under varying load, energy performance (power consumption, heat dissipation), and system size is a challenging problem to tackle. To simplify this process, in this paper we propose CloudSim: an extensible simulation toolkit that enables modelling and simulation of Cloud computing environments. The CloudSim toolkit supports modelling and creation of one or more virtual machines (VMs) on a simulated node of a Data Center, jobs, and their mapping to suitable VMs. It also allows simulation of multiple Data Centers to enable a study on federation and associated policies for migration of VMs for reliability and automatic scaling of applications.

The recent trend in web application development is moving towards exposing the service functionality through application programming interface (API). Many web-based services start to offer APIs to support application-to-application integration with their consumers on top of the web. The trend has raised the demand for average web developers to know how to design APIs for web-based services. In this paper, we summarise a list of inherent issues in the web that developers should pay attention to, describe how web architecture may help to resolve these issues, and suggest design considerations for web API design. software engineering lecturers are faced with the teaching of concepts which sometimes are not easy for inexperienced students to understand. Therefore, it can be useful to consider and use non-traditional teaching methods which can improve studentspsila learning. In this paper, we discuss problem-based learning and how its use can improve studentspsila understanding of concepts. We present factors which should exist in 'pure' problem-based learning. We then describe how one of the authors used problem-based learning in a class who were required to understand information flows through software engineering diagramming techniques, with the ultimate view to being able to analyze and design computerized information systems. This problem-based learning class was observed and analyzed by the second author. The analysis presented focuses on the problem-based learning factors, how they were implemented in class, and the strengths and weaknesses of the use of problem-based learning in this way. In conclusion, the authors discuss how the teaching could be improved through modifying the teaching method for a future class in which problem-based learning will be used. This modification is expected to enhance the studentspsila learning and their experience.

Autonomous systems such as Internet Service Provider (ISP), Enterprise Networks and Academic Networks provide Internet services like internet transit, domain name registration and hosting, dial-up access, leasedline access and co-location. Simulation provides an insight into the behavior of these AS. The internal details like designing, configuring and maintaining networks through protocols that include routing, switching, etc are well understood by this paper. This paper describes how the design of Autonomous Networks can be built on a NetworkDesigner while using leased line and Ethernet technologies. Later these designs can be simulated on a Network Simulator with the use of routing and switching protocols. For this scheme to be implemented successfully different equipment like routers, switches, Ethernet and serial connection, PCs, etc are used and techniques like IP addressing schemes, CIDR and VLSM is implemented.

This work presents a study undertaken to characterise the FINISTERRAE supercomputer, one of the biggest NUMA systems in Europe. The main objective was to determine the performance effect of bus contention and cache coherency as well as the suitability of porting strategies regarding irregular codes in such a complex architecture. Results show that: (1) cores which share a socket can be considered as independent processors in this context; (2) for big data sizes, the effect of sharing a bus degrades the final performance but masks the cache coherency effects; (3) the NUMA factor (remote to local memory latency ratio) is an important factor on irregular codes and (4) the default kernel allocation policy is not optimal in this system. These results allow us to understand the behaviour of thread-to-core mappings and memory allocation policies.

Distributed system emulators provide a paramount platform for testing of network protocols and distributed applications in clusters and networks of workstations. However, to allow testers to benefit from these systems, it is necessary an efficient and automatic mapping of hundreds, or even thousands, of virtual nodes to physical hosts-and the mapping of the virtual links between guests to physical paths in the physical environment. In this paper we present a heuristic to map both virtual machines to hosts and virtual links between virtual machines to paths in the real system. We define the problem we are addressing, present the solution for it and evaluate it in different usage scenarios.

Scientific applications like neuroscience data analysis are usually compute and data-intensive. With the use of globally distributed resources and suitable middlewares, we can achieve much shorter execution time, distribute compute and storage load, and add greater flexibility to the execution of these scientific applications than we could ever achieve in a single compute *** this paper, we present the processing of image registration (IR) for functional magnetic resonance imaging(fMRI) studies on global grids. We characterize the application, list its requirements and transform it to a workflow. We then execute the application on Gridpsila5000 platform and present extensive performance results. We show that the IR application can have 1) significantly improved makespan, 2) distribution of compute and storage load among resources used, and 3) flexibility when executing multiple times on global Grids.

This paper is devoted to the problem of H filtering for a class of neutral stochastic systems with both discrete and distributed time-varying *** objective is to design a full order filter such that the resulting filtering error system is stochastically asymptotically stable with a prescribed H∞performance *** on the stability theory of stochastic systems,a delay-dependent and rate-dependent sufficient condition for the existence of filter is obtained in terms of linear matrix inequalities（LMIs）.The corresponding filter design method is also proposed,while the explicit expression for the desired filter is given.A numerical example is finally included to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
