Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is a technology that automatically extracts textual information from document images. An LLM, a large language model, is a neural network designed to understand, generate, and respond to human-like text. These models are deep neural networks trained on massive amounts of text data, sometimes encompassing large portions of the entire publicly available text on the internet. LLMs require textual data to be converted into numerical vectors, known as embeddings since they can't process raw text. Embeddings transform discrete data (like words or images) into continuous vector spaces, making them compatible with neural network operations. The combined strengths of Tesseract OCR's image-based text extraction and the deep language understanding of LLMs enhance the accuracy and depth of textual comprehension. The proposed integrated model establishes a novel paradigm in enhancing textual understanding, progress in document analysis, information retrieval, and various NLP applications. © Grenze Scientific Society, 2024.

Potholes on roadways pose a significant risk to public safety, leading to numerous accidents and fatalities annually. In this research, we present a custom-trained machine learning model for real-time pothole detection using the You Only Look Once (YOLO) version 7 object detection algorithm. Our study aims to address the critical issue of pothole-related accidents by evaluating the effectiveness of YOLO V7 in identifying potholes under various road conditions and lighting scenarios. We compare YOLO V7 with a sequential Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) algorithm and demonstrate that YOLO V7 outperforms in real-time pothole detection. The system incorporates a camera that captures live footage and highlights potholes in real time, enhancing road safety. Our research showcases the versatility of YOLO V7 in detecting potholes in both daylight and low-light conditions. Furthermore, we explore the feasibility of deploying YOLO V7 on edge devices for real-time pothole detection from moving vehicles. The results affirm YOLO V7's high accuracy and fast processing capabilities, making it a suitable solution for improving road safety by alerting drivers to road hazards. This research contributes to enhancing road safety and reducing accidents caused by potholes, ultimately saving lives and minimizing road infrastructure damage. © 2024 IEEE.

Underwater wireless sensor networks(UWSNs)rely on data aggregation to streamline routing operations by merging information at intermediate nodes before transmitting it to the ***,many existing data aggregation techniques are designed exclusively for static networks and fail to reflect the dynamic nature of underwater ***,conventional multi-hop data gathering techniques often lead to energy depletion problems near the sink,commonly known as the energy hole ***,cluster-based aggregation methods face significant challenges such as cluster head(CH)failures and collisions within clusters that degrade overall network *** address these limitations,this paper introduces an innovative framework,the Cluster-based Data Aggregation using Fuzzy Decision Model(CDAFDM),tailored for mobile *** proposed method has four main phases:clustering,CH selection,data aggregation,and *** CH selection,a fuzzy decision model is utilized to ensure efficient cluster head selection based on parameters such as residual energy,distance to the sink,and data delivery likelihood,enhancing network stability and energy *** the aggregation phase,CHs transmit a single,consolidated set of non-redundant data to the base station(BS),thereby reducing data duplication and saving *** adapt to the changing network topology,the re-clustering phase periodically updates cluster formations and reselects *** results show that CDAFDM outperforms current protocols such as CAPTAIN(Collection Algorithm for underwater oPTical-AcoustIc sensor Networks),EDDG(Event-Driven Data Gathering),and DCBMEC(Data Collection Based on Mobile Edge Computing)with a packet delivery ratio increase of up to 4%,an energy consumption reduction of 18%,and a data collection latency reduction of 52%.These findings highlight the framework’s potential for reliable and energy-efficient data aggregation mobile UWSNs.

Robust steganographic approach using generative adversarial network and compressive autoencoder

Nowadays, social media applications and websites have become a crucial part of people’s lives;for sharing their moments, contacting their families and friends, or even for their jobs. However, the fact that these valuable data are transferred via the Internet and open channels, which are vulnerable to attacks and espionage, requires using defense methods to improve the security of data transmission. Recently, the progress of Deep Learning (DL) inspired researchers to use it with security methods such as steganography, the art of hiding secret data in unrelated content. DL and steganography combined enhanced the hiding properties, especially in the Coverless Image Steganography (CIS) methods. In this paper, we propose a Compressive Coverless Image Steganography (CCIS) model, which is a generated-based CIS, to improve the capacity and robustness of Steganography. This model uses the compressive autoencoder to compress the message, thus increasing the capacity, and uses the Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) to generate a stego image from the compressed vector, thus enhancing concealment ability, besides using a regression model and optimization method to extract the data. Another version was designed to enable sending binary messages by replacing the compressive autoencoder network with a robust mapping rule. Experiments show that the proposed model could improve the characteristics of Steganography. Furthermore, the proposed model could extract binary messages with 256 bits from attacked stego images with 99% recovery accuracy. Thus, capacity and robustness were enhanced using our model with both images and text as secret messages. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Efficient cloud resource management is vital, as it ensures the accurate selection and allocation of resources to diverse workloads or applications. This entails real-time balancing of workload performance, compliance, and cost to achieve optimization. Since there are many cloud users involved in scheduling tasks, or cloudlets, the scheduling process becomes complex. It involves selecting appropriate data centers, servers (hosts), and virtual machines (VMs). There are several bioinspired algorithms that are effective and popular for solving the NP-complete problem of cloudlet scheduling. By using these algorithms, cloudlets can be efficiently allocated to achieve faster execution times, better resource utilization, and a shorter waiting time. This study presents a hybrid technique that combines the strengths of both ant colony optimization and locust-inspired algorithm (HACO-LA), which have been shown to outperform other bio-inspired algorithms in cloud computing environments. Implementing this technique will lead to a decrease in the average response time, while also increasing the utilization of VMs and servers. The method was evaluated using the Cloud Sim toolbox with authentic data. It was compared to the preexisting Artificial Bee Colony Optimization (ABC) algorithm and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. The findings demonstrated that HACO-LA surpassed both methods, leading to notable enhancements in server utilization, increased reliability, and decreased average response time. © 2024 IEEE.

Machine Learning-Based Calibration Approaches for Single-Beam and Multiple-Beam Distance Sensors

Sensors are the foundation to facilitate smart cities, smart grids, and smart transportation, and distance sensors are especially important for sensing the environment and gathering information. Researchers have developed various methods to calibrate distance sensors;however, they mainly focus on using external information for calibration, which is inefficient and computationally expensive. To alleviate the above problems, we propose machine learning (ML)-based calibration approaches for distance sensors. We develop two calibration mechanisms, where the naive mechanism directly predicts the true distance, while the residual mechanism predicts the residual for calibration. The conventional ML regression algorithms are then adopted to predict the true distance or calibration residual. Experimental results show that the designed residual calibration mechanism outperforms the naive mechanism by reducing the root mean square error (RMSE) by 92.2% and mean absolute error (MAE) by 93.3% in the fitting task. In prediction, the proposed 2-D-residual mechanism achieves an improvement of 78.6% and 65.7% compared to the state-of-the-art method. The experimental results show the effectiveness and generalization of the proposed ML-based calibration method, especially for the 2-D mechanism, which achieves the highest robustness in all fitting and prediction tasks. © 2001-2012 IEEE.
