Edge-based federated learning (EFL) is a solution for personalized applications. It addresses the limitations of cloud-based consumer service systems, such as data privacy and network latency. To further enhance the EFL system’s ability to protect data privacy, differential privacy (DP) is introduced. It is crucial to motivate high-quality collaboration among participants for optimal performance of the DP-EFL system. researchers primarily focus on efficient learning algorithms, optimized resource scheduling, and user-oriented incentive mechanisms. Existing research exhibits notable limitations in modeling and analyzing the heterogeneity of resource costs (e.g., communication costs), particularly failing to comprehensively account for the additional costs imposed by participants’ privacy protection mechanisms‌. To address this gap, we propose a novel market transaction model based on Stackelberg game theory. This framework integrates incentive-driven reward allocation mechanisms to rigorously investigate the collaborative behaviors and strategic interactions between edge nodes (ENs) and the cloud server (CS)‌. We incorporate privacy costs into the multidimensional costs of participants with privacy metric, and based on this, derived collaboration strategies between ENs and CS, thus solving the Stackelberg game problem by theoretical analysis. Furthermore, numerical experiments validated the rationality of our proposed model, the impact of strategies on the performance of collaborators, and the advantages over other incentive mechanisms. © 2025 IEEE. Facial image based kinship verification aims to decide whether there exists kinship between the given facial images. In practice, the cross-generation differences will cause adverse effects on kinship verification, which limits the performance. Therefore, how to mine the implied similarity from facial images with large cross-generation divergence is an important problem in kinship verification, which has not yet been well studied. In view of this, we propose a Similarity Mining via Implicit matching pattern LEarning (SMILE) approach for kinship verification. Specifically, SMILE mainly consists of two modules, including a Semi-coupled Multi-pattern Similarity Learning (SMSL) module and a Cross-Generation Feature Normalization (CGFN) module. The SMSL module is designed to learn multiple semi-coupled matching patterns for mining the implicit facial similarity information from different perspectives. The CGFN module aims to reduce the divergence between facial images of parent and child. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms the existing state-of-the-art methods.

Immunohistochemistry(IHC)is a vital technique for detecting specific proteins and antigens in tissue sections using antibodies,aiding in the analysis of tumor growth and ***,IHC is costly and time-consuming,making it challenging to implement on a large *** address this issue,we introduce a method that enables virtual IHC staining directly on Hematoxylin and Eosin(H&E)***,we have developed a novel registration technique,called Bi-stage Registration based on density Clustering(BiReC),to enhance the registration efficiency between H&E and IHC *** method involves automatically generating numerous Regions Of Interest(ROI)labels on the H&E image for model training,with the labels being determined by the intensity of IHC ***,we propose a novel two-branch network architecture,called SeaConvNeXt,which integrates a lightweight Squeeze-Enhanced Axial(SEA)attention mechanism to efficiently extract and fuse multi-level local and global features from H&E images for direct prediction of specific proteins and *** SeaConvNeXt consists of a ConvNeXt branch and a global fusion *** ConvNeXt branch extracts multi-level local features at four stages,while the global fusion branch,including an SEA Transformer module and three global blocks,is designed for global feature extraction and multiple feature *** experiments demonstrate that SeaConvNeXt outperforms current state-of-the-art methods on two public datasets with corresponding IHC and H&E images,achieving an AUC of 90.7%on the HER2SC dataset and 82.5%on the CRC *** results suggest that SeaConvNeXt has great potential for predicting virtual IHC staining on H&E images.

Historical visualizations are a valuable resource for studying the history of visualization and inspecting the cultural context where they were created. When investigating historical visualizations, it is essential to consider contributions from different cultural frameworks to gain a comprehensive understanding. While there is extensive research on historical visualizations within the European cultural framework, this work shifts the focus to ancient China, a cultural context that remains underexplored by visualization researchers. To this aim, we propose a semi-automatic pipeline to collect, extract, and label historical Chinese visualizations. Through the pipeline, we curate ZuantuSet, a dataset with over 71K visualizations and 108K illustrations. We analyze distinctive design patterns of historical Chinese visualizations and their potential causes within the context of Chinese history and culture. We illustrate potential usage scenarios for this dataset, summarize the unique challenges and solutions associated with collecting historical Chinese visualizations, and outline future research directions. Aiming at the high frequency of urban traffic accidents and the relative shortage of police resources, a multi-objective discrete Jaya algorithm is proposed to solve the problem of police resource deployment in emergency traffic accident handling. The purpose is to make timely response and handling of traffic accidents through the rational allocation of police deployment points in the jurisdiction. Taking the coverage of accident points and the average response time of accidents as the optimization objectives, the discrete Jaya algorithm is used as the global search strategy to approach the Pareto front by constantly approaching the optimal solution and far away from the worst solution, and then the neighborhood search strategy is used to improve the local search ability of the algorithm. Finally, a practical example is given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2022 IEEE.

Histopathology and transcriptomics are fundamental modalities in cancer diagnostics, encapsulating the morphological and molecular characteristics of the disease. Multi-modal self-supervised learning has demonstrated remarkable potential in learning pathological representations by integrating diverse data sources. Conventional multi-modal integration methods primarily emphasize modality alignment, while paying insufficient attention to retaining the modality-specific intrinsic structures. However, unlike conventional scenarios where multi-modal inputs often share highly overlapping features, histopathology and transcriptomics exhibit pronounced heterogeneity, offering orthogonal yet complementary insights. Histopathology data provides morphological and spatial context, elucidating tissue architecture and cellular topology, whereas transcriptomics data delineates molecular signatures through quantifying gene expression patterns. This inherent disparity introduces a major challenge in aligning these modalities while maintaining modality-specific fidelity. To address these challenges, we present MIRROR, a novel multi-modal representation learning framework designed to foster both modality alignment and retention. MIRROR employs dedicated encoders to extract comprehensive feature representations for each modality, which is further complemented by a modality alignment module to achieve seamless integration between phenotype patterns and molecular profiles. Furthermore, a modality retention module safeguards unique attributes from each modality, while a style clustering module mitigates redundancy and enhances disease-relevant information by modeling and aligning consistent pathological signatures within a clustering space. Weight assignment is a universal and indispensable process in multi-view feature selection. However, most existing methods overlook the fuzziness and uncertainty implied in multi-view data. This may result in improper weight assignment, degrading the quality of selected features. A cross-view fuzziness and intra-view uncertainty-based weight reconstruction method (CFIUWR) is proposed for multi-view feature selection. With the fuzzy rough set theory, fuzzy approximation operators recognize cross-view fuzziness and intra-view uncertainty, which are evaluated by classification-related measurement. Cross-view fuzziness and intra-view uncertainty are incorporated to develop a reconstruction mechanism for view and feature weights. An optimization algorithm is derived, guaranteeing rapid convergence. Comparisons with state-of-the-art methods on several real-world datasets demonstrate the superiority of the CFIUWR. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

We propose a comprehensive trajectory planning framework for quadcopter unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) assisting in edge computing, aiming to control their crash proba-bility when deployed at the edge of the Internet of Things (IoT) across diverse meteorological and topographical environments. First, we collect hourly meteorological data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Integrated Surface Data (ISD), which includes 16 key metrics such as temperature, atmospheric pressure, wind speed, and solar radiation. We then use the Spark framework and a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network, accounting for seasonal trends, to predict meteorological conditions based on the collected data. Subsequently, we combine a dynamic risk assessment model with the Endoh crash risk model to calculate the probability of a crash. Finally, we design a three-dimensional ant colony system variant, referred to as ACS-DS-R, to plan UAV trajectories, incorporating meteorological predictions and topographical information. Our proposed framework dynamically adjusts UAV paths based on terrain data and real-time meteorological predictions to avoid high-risk areas, significantly reducing crash rates. We present extensive numerical results using real data from across Japan-including cities, forests, lakes, coasts, and mountainous areas-demonstrating that our approach reduces crash probabil-ity by more than 33%, improves the task completion rate by about 2.58 times while increasing total energy consumption by only 13% compared to existing mainstream approaches. Our work demonstrates the value of integrating real-time meteorological predictions and topographical data into UAV trajectory planning, offering a practical solution for safer and more efficient UAV deployments in diverse environments.
