The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has affected all aspects of our daily life and imposed social distancing among people. In higher education, the shift from traditional learning (TL) to the distance learning (DL) model has become inevitable to continue academic life. However, this unexpected shift is complex and poses new challenges and obstacles for the stakeholders of the DL system. In this research, the DL system's stakeholders have been classified into students, instructors, technical administrators, and educational administrators. This research study aims to gather the perceptions of and satisfaction level of these stakeholders with DL and explore the challenges encountered by these stakeholders during the shift to DL during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, four questionnaires were developed and distributed to the identified stakeholders at the University of Petra, which has been adopted as a case study for this research. © 2024 IEEE.

The design of official websites that care for people with special needs is a key indicator of the extent of compliance of governments with international standards, as it sends a clear message of commitment to accessible design practices. Since the design of accessible web pages is highly challenging, regulations in most cases do not enforce the mandatory adoption of accessibility standards;rather, it is left as an optional preference. This is also true for most Arab countries. To assess the degree of accessibility compliance of the official websites of governmental institutions responsible for disability in Arab countries we evaluated accessibility options under the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1) standard using two free online tools, WAVE and Acheker. We also included a by-hand evaluation of certain accessibility choices. Only 13 Middle East and North Africa (MENA) country websites were evaluated due to the lack of available data in the rest of the countries. Our results show the non-compliance of all tested websites and demonstrate the need for a better design of accessible websites. We ranked the evaluated websites based on the results of the two evaluation tools. © 2022 by the International Institute of Informatics and Systemics. All rights reserved.

This paper evaluates different state-of-the-art approaches for implementing an X-ray view in Augmented Reality (AR). Our focus is on approaches supporting a better scene understanding and in particular a better sense of depth order between physical objects and digital objects. One of the main goals of this work is to provide effective X-ray visualization techniques that work in unprepared outdoor environments. In order to achieve this goal, we focus on methods that automatically extract depth cues from video images. The extracted depth cues are combined in ghosting maps that are used to assign each video image pixel a transparency value to control the overlay in the AR view. Within our study, we analyze three different types of ghosting maps, 1) alpha-blending which uses a uniform alpha value within the ghosting map, 2) edge-based ghosting which is based on edge extraction and 3) image-based ghosting which incorporates perceptual grouping, saliency information, edges and texture details. Our study results demonstrate that the latter technique helps the user to understand the subsurface location of virtual objects better than using alpha-blending or the edge-based ghosting. Designing a control mesh (or a polyhedron) for a subdivision model is a tedious task. It involves many difficult decisions such as how to minimize the number of extraordinary vertices, how best to choose their valencies, and where to place them in the control mesh. In this paper, we present an intuitive and interactive approach for using sketch-based interface to design subdivision models. The input to the system is a set of strokes forming the profile curves of the surface. From the constructed control polygons of the sketched curves, a coarse and quad dominant control mesh is generated with few extraordinary vertices or faces. The corresponding limit surface interpolates the profile curves with the capability of local control across these curves and of the model in general. Although our approach is oriented towards quad-based systems such as Catmull-Clark, it could well be adopted in other subdivision schemes. Multimedia is an increasingly important part the mix of applications that users run on personal computers and workstations. The requirements placed on a multimedia operating system are demanding and often conflicting. After studying multimedia characteristics and multimedia system requirements, this paper presents a new operating system for multimedia files and applications and it calls this operating system an Optimal Multimedia Operating System as optimal operating system solution for multimedia applications and files and compare this optimal operating system with three existing operating system: QLinux, Mac osx Leopard, Windows Vista.

Research work in the field of Wireless Sensor Networks(WSNs) is represented by a broad spectrum of applications, ranging from environmental monitoring to motion or tracking monitoring. Wireless sensor networks solved many distributed system problems related to scalability and real-time performance, which offer obvious advantages for systems with a large number of components. This system provides a good performance for any time and dose without degrading the degree of performance with the increased system size. In this paper, we present some of detection and tracking protocols defined in sensors over distributed tracking networks. The paper concludes by presenting recent research results in tracking methods, collaborative signal and information processing, tracking multiple moving objects in sensor fields,target classification and location.

As skin shape depends on the underlying anatomical structure, the anatomy-based techniques usually afford greater realism than the traditional skeleton-driven approach. On the downside, however, it is against the current animation workflow, as the animator has to model many individual muscles before the final skin layer arrives, resulting in an unintuitive modelling process. In this paper, we present a new anatomy-based technique that allows the animator to start from an already modelled character. Muscles having visible influence on the skin shape at the rest pose are extracted automatically by studying the surface geometry of the skin. The extracted muscles are then used to deform the skin in areas where there exist complex deformations. The remaining skin areas, unaffected or hardly affected by the muscles, are handled by the skeleton-driven technique, allowing both techniques to play their strengths. In order for the extracted muscles to produce realistic local skin deformation during animation, muscle bulging and special movements are both represented. Whereas the former ensues volume preservation, the latter allows a muscle not only to deform along a straight path, but also to slide and bend around joints and bones, resulting in the production of sophisticated muscle movements and deformations. The skeleton driven skinning technique is still the most popular method for animating deformable human and creature characters. Albeit an industry de facto due to its computational performance and intuitiveness, it suffers from problems like collapsing elbow and candy wrapper joint. To remedy these problems, one needs to formulate the non-linear relationship between the skeleton and the skin shape of a character properly, which however proves mathematically very challenging. Placing additional joints where the skin bends increases the sampling rate and is an ad hoc way of approximating this non-linear relationship. In this paper, we propose a method that is able to accommodate the inherent non-linear relationships between the movement of the skeleton and the skin shape. We use the so-called curve skeletons along with the joint-based skeletons to animate the skin shape. Since the deformation follows the tangent of the curve skeleton and also due to higher sampling rates received from the curve points, collapsing skin and other undesirable skin deformation problems are avoided. The curve skeleton retains the advantages of the current skeleton driven skinning. It is easy to use and allows full control over the animation process. As a further enhancement, it is also fairly simple to build realistic muscle and fat bulge effect. A practical implementation in the form of a Maya plug-in is created to demonstrate the viability of the technique. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

This course provides an introduction to acting and drawing techniques used to develop stronger character animation. Physical warm ups, trust and improvisation will be introduced. Participants will physically participate in theater games and drawing methods. The exercises will inspire an instinctive understanding of staging principles, thumbnail drawing, animal personification, mime, emotional recall and audience awareness. Participants will view demonstrations of acting and drawing by lecturers. Each participant will be provided with theater props, animation paper and pencils for exercises. animation, from Siggraph's animation and Electronic Theater, will spotlight excellent acting in animation examples during the course.
