Pre-sowing treatment of sunflower seeds in a magnetic field improves its sowing qualities, plant biometrics and yield, which can be explained by increasing the rate of chemical reactions in seeds, solubility of salts and acids, permeability of cell membranes, increased transport of ions, oxygen and water. Based on the obtained analytical dependences and experimentally the regime parameters of sunflower seed treatment and their optimal values was determined: magnetic induction 0.065 T, magnetic field gradient 0.57 T/m (pole division 0.23 m), fourfold re-magnetization, seed velocity 0.4 m/s, which provides energy dose of seed treatment 3.8 J.s/kg. It is established that the change in the biopotential of sunflower seeds can determine the efficiency of their treatment in a magnetic field and determine the change in activation energy, which does not exceed 3.28 kJ/g-eq. Using the optimal parameters of sunflower seed treatment in a magnetic field, an device for pre-sowing treatment of sunflower seeds in a magnetic field was designed and manufactured, the use of which increases germination energy by 28 %, germination by 24 %, sunflower yield by 26 %. © 2022 IEEE.

Vibratory equipment is widely used in various fields of mechanical, industrial, and manufacturing engineering. Particularly, such machines can be effectively implemented while carrying out finishing technological operations, e.g., glazing, polishing, and lapping of different machine parts. The present paper is focused on developing the control system for the novel design of a vibratory lapping-polishing machine driven by six solenoids. The main purpose consists in providing the circular trajectory of the working member and ensuring the machining uniformity at each point of the surface being treated. In such a case, it is proposed to actuate the solenoids with the specified time shift depending on the forced frequency needed to be provided. The duration of the signal actuating the solenoid is equal to one-sixth of the total duration of a cycle (period) of the working body oscillation. The corresponding control approach is developed and simulated in the Tinkercad application, while the control system is designed based on the Arduino hardware and software. In addition, the laboratory prototype of the vibratory lapping-polishing machine and the corresponding control system are implemented in practice. The performed laboratory studies and experimental tests substantiate the possibilities of generating the circular oscillations of the working member of the vibration-driven lapping-polishing machine. The obtained results may be useful for engineers and technologists dealing with control systems of various vibratory technological equipment based on electromagnetic and solenoid-type drives.

The paper presents a fuzzy model of corporate degradation, with the allocation of three sign levels of degradation. Each level of corporate degradation is represented by its quantitative and qualitative linguistic assessment. The following factors are used during the analysis: quick reinvestment ratio (QRIC), economic stability index (RI), level of equity of the organization. As a result statistical data are presented on the levels of corporate degradation within a group of 86 world largest industrial enterprises. Conclusion. A Streamline-guided De-Homogenization Approach for Structural design

We present a novel de-homogenization approach for efficient design of high-resolution load-bearing structures. The proposed approach builds upon a streamline-based parametrization of the design domain, using a set of space-filling and evenly-spaced streamlines in the two mutually orthogonal direction fields that are obtained from homogenization-based topology optimization. Streamlines in these fields are converted into a graph, which is then used to construct a quad-dominant mesh whose edges follow the direction fields. In addition, the edge width is adjusted according to the density and anisotropy of the optimized orthotropic cells. In a number of numerical examples, we demonstrate the mechanical performance and regular appearance of the resulting structural designs, and compare them with those from classic and contemporary approaches. Street trees are important components of urban green spaces, and their ecosystem services improve the urban thermal environment. The shade from the tree cover can create a more comfortable pedestrian space in a city with hot summer. In addition, urban microclimate analyses are becoming more and more to address the planning decision process to create liveable and healthy public spaces. However, the specific relationship between street tree species and microclimate has not been sufficiently studied in diverse urban settings. Therefore, this study took two typical "three boards and four belts" type streets in Nanjing as a study site. The research objective is to investigate how the street tree species affect microclimate and pedestrian comfort. We analyzed the microclimate variations by on-site meteorological measurement. Furthermore, the ENVI-met model was used to analyze the optimal strategies for improving the thermal environment. The human thermal comfort was evaluated by Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI), which can be calculated in the model. The results revealed: (1) the microclimate in the streets planted with deciduous trees can create a better thermal environment than conifers. (2) Street trees performed differently by influencing the thermal environment in streets in different directions. (3) Over-dense tree canopy may reduce the vertical air circulation, which leads to the heated air block in the pedestrian spaces. The findings of this study showed great opportunities for supporting decision-makers in improving the urban thermal environment through street greenery. © VDE VERLAG GMBH ∙ Berlin ∙ Offenbach.

Investigations of electromagnetic and electromechanical transients in an asynchronous electric drive with voltage deviation and asymmetry have been carried out. Analytical expressions are obtained that describe the transients in an asynchronous electric drive with a shock load at voltage deviation and *** the voltage decreases and asymmetries, the electromechanical constant of time increases, and as the voltage increases, electromechanical constant decreases. As a result, in drives with a small electromechanical time constant, increasing the voltage can cause torques and speed to fluctuate, while reducing and asymmetry can eliminate *** electric drives with a large moment of inertia, the transient process is aperiodic. When the voltage is higher than the nominal one, the duration of the transient process decreases, and when the voltage decreases and asymmetries, duration of the transient process *** decrease and asymmetry of the voltage causes a decrease in the steady angular speed compared to the nominal, and an increase in voltage - angular speed increase. © 2021 IEEE.

Stress topology analysis for porous infill optimization

The optimization of porous infill structures via local volume constraints has become a popular approach in topology optimization. In some design settings, however, the iterative optimization process converges only slowly, or not at all even after several hundreds or thousands of iterations. This leads to regions in which a distinct binary design is difficult to achieve. Interpreting intermediate density values by applying a threshold results in large solid or void regions, leading to sub-optimal structures. We find that this convergence issue relates to the topology of the stress tensor field that is simulated when applying the same external forces on the solid design domain. In particular, low convergence is observed in regions around so-called trisector degenerate points. Based on this observation, we propose an automatic initialization process that prescribes the topological skeleton of the stress field into the material field as solid simulation elements. These elements guide the material deposition around the degenerate points, but can also be remodelled or removed during the optimization. We demonstrate significantly improved convergence rates in a number of use cases with complex stress topologies. The economic environment demands companies to be able of innovating and presenting new products and technologies. However, current industrial environments are composed of big established companies, small or medium family businesses and regional clusters. This business map does not comply with the dynamism required for detecting needs and proposals in form of new products that meet the current customer requirements. The creation of start-ups in the field of engineering is considered as a possibility to cover a growing market in designing high technological products. However, despite the importance and economic impact of the start-ups for less industrialized environments the courses in the engineering field do not include activities that contextualize theoretical knowledge and entrepreneurship. The paper presents the results of creating an entrepreneurial environment focused on the student as entrepreneurial unit. In this context, a series of new activities based on new design proposals have been developed on the basis of new technical solutions for industrial companies. The new designs have been presented as minimum viable products. The technical knowledge required for making the new designs has been complemented with entrepreneurial training. The results show an increase in students' willingness to create small companies based in new products as an employment option at the end of their studies. © 2021, The Author(s).

SGLDBench: A Benchmark Suite for Stress-Guided Lightweight 3D designs

We introduce the Stress-Guided Lightweight design Benchmark (SGLDBench), a comprehensive benchmark suite for applying and evaluating material layout strategies to generate stiff, lightweight designs in 3D domains. SGLDBench provides a seamlessly integrated simulation and analysis framework, including six reference strategies and a scalable multigrid elasticity solver to efficiently execute these strategies and validate the stiffness of their results. This facilitates the systematic analysis and comparison of design strategies based on the mechanical properties they achieve. SGLDBench enables the evaluation of diverse load conditions and, through the tight integration of the solver, supports high-resolution designs and stiffness analysis. Additionally, SGLDBench emphasizes visual analysis to explore the relationship between the geometric structure of a design and the distribution of stresses, offering insights into the specific properties and behaviors of different design strategies. SGLDBench's specific features are highlighted through several experiments, comparing the results of reference strategies with respect to geometric and mechanical properties.

This paper deals with storytelling aspects of computer games. A new approach to automatic story generation based on graph modelling is proposed. Godot Engine for visualization of output stories is used. In our research the plot is represented by a specific graph called the layered graph composed of story building blocks, namely layer of locations, layer of characters, layer of items, layer of narration and plot dependencies. An appropriate set of graph rules (productions) stored in JSON format is a generative tool for the building blocks. Graph rules are internal representation of actions which can be taken by the hero of the story. A sequence of the rules from start to end can describe the whole gameplay of one player or can be generated in automatic way as a possible gameplay. All such sequences of the rules create the space of all potential gameplays. Every rule corresponds to a certain animation made in Godot Engine. It allows to visualize every possible story, represented by sequence of rules, by seamless animation.
