Magic lens and static peephole interfaces are used in numerous consumer mobile phone applications such as Augmented Reality browsers, games or digital map applications in a variety of contexts including public spaces. Interface performance has been evaluated for various interaction tasks involving spatial relationships in a scene. However, interface usage outside laboratory conditions has not been considered in depth in the evaluation of these interfaces. We present findings about the usage of magic lens and static peephole interfaces for playing a find-and-select game in a public space and report on the reactions of the public audience to participants? interactions. Contrary to our expectations participants favored the magic lens over a static peephole interface despite tracking errors, fatigue and potentially conspicuous gestures. Most passersby did not pay attention to the participants and vice versa. A comparative laboratory experiment revealed only few differences in system usage. Copyright 2012 ACM.

This paper describes a novel technology that incorporates affective learning capability into virtual environment (VE) based training systems to enhance existing training simulation frameworks through the integration of affective state assessment and feedback mechanisms. The technology dynamically monitors a trainee's affective state and then uses emotional state induction techniques to drive the trainee's emotional state towards the target emotional state specified in the lesson plan. The technology is currently being customized for warfighter training simulators, it however can be applied to any other types of virtual environment based training systems such as medical crew training or aviation training.

This course provides an introduction to acting and drawing techniques used to develop stronger character animation. Physical warm ups, trust and improvisation will be introduced. Participants will physically participate in theater games and drawing methods. The exercises will inspire an instinctive understanding of staging principles, thumbnail drawing, animal personification, mime, emotional recall and audience awareness. Participants will view demonstrations of acting and drawing by lecturers. Each participant will be provided with theater props, animation paper and pencils for exercises.
