Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) is the network of embedded and resource-constrained nodes, that forms the foundation of the Internet of Things (IoT). These networks are designed to sense, aggregate and transport sensed data to locations that may be local or remote to the sensory field, for immediate or stored for later use. In most cases, WSN generates heterogeneous data that conveys information of varying priorities which may be real-time (RT) or non-real-time (NRT). However, the de facto routing protocol;Routing Protocol for Low-power and Lossy Networks (RPL) is not optimized for heterogeneous data routing. Likewise, routing schemes proposed in the literature have not proffered a lasting solution. In this paper, we proposed the Shortest Path Priority-based RPL (SPPB-RPL). The SPPB-RPL scheme not only routes data with varying priorities but also does so with optimal network performances. Its application in a smart campus is used as a case study. The scheme uses the mechanism of class of service (CS) to classify and prioritized data into various priority classes. Subsequently, the standard RPL DIO base object was improved upon to accommodate the prioritized data classes, and finally, the Dijkstra Algorithm (DA) was adopted to generate the optimal shortest routing path leading to the destination node which is guided by the priority of the data. Benchmarked with related schemes, SPPB-RPL performed optimally with a 99.98% packet delivery ratio with the least latency. This enhanced the network performance for a prolonged operational lifetime. © 2020 IEEE.

The rapid growth of electronic commerce (e-commerce) has revolutionized the global business landscape, transforming the way consumers and businesses interact, purchase, and sell goods and services. However, this sector faces a myriad of challenges that impede its sustainable growth and development. This research paper critically examines the current problems encountered by the electronic commerce sector and proposes viable solutions to address these issues. The study identifies three major problem areas affecting the sector: (1) Security and Privacy Concerns, (2) Logistics and Supply Chain Bottlenecks, and (3) Customer Experience and Trust. Regarding security and privacy, the proliferation of cyber-attacks, data breaches, and identity theft has eroded consumer confidence, hindering e-commerce adoption. The paper aims to investigate the latest technologies and best practices, such as blockchain, advanced encryption techniques, and robust authentication methods, to fortify e-commerce platforms against cyber threats and safeguard user data. The second problem area, logistics and supply chain bottleneck, poses challenges related to order fulfilment, inventory management, and last-mile delivery. Through an in-depth analysis, the research proposes innovative approaches like utilizing machine learning algorithms for predictive inventory management, integrating Internet of Things (IoT) devices for real-time tracking, and exploring drone and autonomous vehicle deliveries to enhance overall logistics efficiency. The third issue addressed in this paper pertains to customer experience and trust. The inability to tangibly experience products before purchase, coupled with ambiguous return policies, often deters potential customers from engaging in e-commerce transactions. The integration of terrestrial and satellite wireless communication networks offers a practical solution to enhance network coverage, connectivity, and cost-effectiveness. Moreover, in today’s interconnected world, connectivity’s reliable and widespread availability is increasingly important across various domains. This is especially more crucial for applications like the Internet of Things (IoT), remote sensing, disaster management, and bridging the digital divide. However, allocating the limited network resources efficiently and ensuring seamless handover between satellite and terrestrial networks present significant challenges. Therefore, this study introduces a resource allocation framework for integrated satellite-terrestrial networks to address these challenges. The framework leverages local cache pool deployments and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) to reduce time delays and improve energy efficiency. Our proposed approach utilizes a multi-agent enabled deep deterministic policy gradient algorithm (MADDPG) to optimize user association, cache design, and transmission power control, resulting in enhanced energy efficiency. The approach comprises two phases: User Association and Power Control, where users are treated as agents, and Cache Optimization, where the satellite (Bs) is considered the agent. Through extensive simulations, we demonstrate that our approach surpasses conventional single-agent deep reinforcement learning algorithms in addressing cache design and resource allocation challenges in integrated terrestrial-satellite networks. Specifically, our proposed approach achieves significantly higher energy efficiency and reduced time delays compared to existing methods. This research highlights the importance and addresses the need for efficient resource allocation and cache design in integrated terrestrial-satellite networks, paving the way for enhanced connectivity and improved network performance in various applications. One of the most important aspects to consider is the lighting in the room and the lighting on display in the museum because if both lightings are adequate, people will be interested in the collection. The museum's illumination is determined by selecting a lightbulb with suitable illuminance needs and the appropriate corresponding color temperature (CCT). Insufficient lighting can have several consequences, such as visitors refusing to come because the room is too dark or excessive illumination of artifacts blinding visitors' eyes. The unsuitable lighting style can also cause harm to the artifact and cause it to require more electricity, resulting in increased costs. The author employed the single case study method of creating a prototype display in the shape of Vitrin with double illumination in this research. The primary lighting source is indirect light from the LED strip material, which illuminates the object. The second illumination uses LED spotlights to provide a detailed effect on the artifact. This spotlight is only activated when a visitor approaches the display at less than 60cm and stands a minimum of two seconds. The author utilizes an Arduino UNO board and an ultrasonic sensor at the bottom of the display to manage this automation. According to the results of trials with various circumstances, the prototype works to save energy in lighting museum exhibits. In addition to gaining energy-saving, choosing the suitable lamp material can help protect the collection from the damage caused by light-emitting.

Vehicle ad-hoc network (VANET) faces heavy traffic with communication burden to connect with various nodes in the network, uses clustering techniques with neighboring vehicles, and elects a powerful and efficient vehicle as a cluster head. Cluster head vehicle collects all the information and pass them out and transmit outside data to other members in the cluster. However, clustering faces issues such as the inability of choosing feasible and stable clusters for a long time. On the other hand, the nomination of cluster heads fails to adhere to real-world parameters. To address these issues, in this paper, a k-means algorithm and direction vector-based clustering techniques and a cluster head selection method with the utilization of fuzzy-based PROMETHEE multi-criteria decision techniques are proposed. Moreover, mathematical and rational analysis shows that the method is implementable and achievable. Finally, a range of future directions of the study is shown. © 2020 IEEE.

The objective of the vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET) is to mobilize transportation systems along with the enhancement of safeguard and efficiency. Security and anonymity are important aspects of VANET too. Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication fulfills most of the requirements in VANET except the security breaches. Authentication protocols are designed to improve security by validating legitimate users in V2V communication. In this research, we proposed a two-factor authentication protocol using user biometric-based and password-based, which can support minimum or no VANET infrastructure environments. Furthermore, we performed an informal security analysis on the aforesaid protocol and shown the security features of it. We further discussed the future scope of the research in the field of VANET authentication. © 2020 ACM.

Epilepsy is a neurological disease caused by excessive neuron excitability in the brain. Feature-extracting strategies are necessary for EEG detection-dependent epilepsy to perform well. In this paper, we proposed Chi-square feature-ranking method on 22 multimodal features extracted from epileptic seizure based on time and frequency domain characteristics, entropy-based complexity-based features, wavelet-based and a few statistical features. The multimodal features were extracted based on the temporal variation spectral changes and nonlinear dynamics of brain signals. We applied robust machine learning (ML) classifiers such as k-nearest neighbor (KNN), decision tree (DT), Bayesian classifier, support vector machine (SVM) with kernels such as radial base function and linear, eXtreme boosting linear (XGBoost-L) and eXtreme boosting tree (XGBoost-tree) methods. The performance was evaluated based on top ranked 2, 4, 8, 10, 11 and all features. Using top 2–3 ranked features, few classifiers yielded highest detection performance, while the top 11 features yielded the highest performance on all the selected classifiers. Likewise, all 22 selected features provided good predictions on a few selected classifiers. Results reveal that the top 11 ranked features among 22 computed features are good predictors. The feature ranking will further help to make decisions for clinicians and doctors for its diagnosis. © 2023 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Image captioning involves generating a natural language description that accurately represents the content and context of an image. To achieve this, image captioning utilises various machine learning techniques and fields, such as computer vision and natural language processing. In the field of image captioning, a lot of advances have been made with encoder-decoder models and reinforcement learning algorithms. However, there are still problems of imbalance between testing and training, as reinforcement learning only handles single comparator metrics such as CIDEr, SPICE, and BLEU and could not perform better in multiple metrics at once. Which is why a lack of diversity can be seen in generated captions. This idea proposes a general technique for collaborative updating that can bridge the gap between evaluation measures and test metrics to produce captions that are more human-like. To increase the precision of image captions, the approach involves using a compiled reward system that considers multiple evaluation metrics to compare the generated sentence with the provided sentences. We will evaluate the model's performance and the reward updating process on standard datasets like MS COCO.

This research investigates the feasibility of school-based learning using Virtual Reality technology in Electric Power Generation learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research employs a qualitative approach. Vocational High School Nurul Jadid Paiton Probolinggo is the site of this study. Data was gathered through observation, literature review, and interviews. In the Electrical Engineering section, interviews were conducted with a teaching instructor. Triangulation was used to investigate the data's authenticity, in addition to further interviews with the curriculum staff and instructors at the school. The teacher's assessment of learning media using Virtual Reality application technology shows valid criteria with an average value of 3.6. In comparison, after using the Virtual Reality application learning media, the assessment of students obtained an average value of 3.77 compared to conventional assessments with an interval of 2.71. The use of Virtual Reality technology has proven that it can help and facilitate student learning. The use of technologies of Virtual Reality as a means of learning in classrooms will also be an alternate option for virtual laboratories during the COVID-19 pandemic. © 2021 IEEE.
