Objective: Evaluating pain in individuals with dementia can be difficult when verbal communication is limited. Vocalization has emerged as a potential avenue for assessments of pain in nonverbal populations. This study aimed to evaluate if physiological assessments of vocalization were correlated with observational assessments of pain during routine blood tests for persons with dementia. Design: A cross-sectional descriptive study. Setting and Participants: Sixty older adults (aged ≥65 years old) with dementia requiring routine finger puncture and peripheral venipuncture for routine blood tests were recruited by purposive sampling from 3 long-term care facilities in Taiwan. Methods: Observational assessments were conducted with the Pain Assessment in Advanced Dementia (PAINAD) instrument;physiological biomarkers of vocalization were assessed with a noninvasive sensing device and microphone (NISDM). Assessments were conducted simultaneously in one session during situations of increasing pain levels: at rest, making a sound, finger puncture, and peripheral venipuncture. PAINAD scores were compared with signal recording measures from the NISDM. Analysis of variance and Pearson correlation coefficient assessed correlations between observational and physiological measures. Results: Most participants were female (63.3%);mean age was 81.27 years (SD = 9.69);Clinical Dementia Rating was 2.23 ± 0.70;and Mini-Mental State Examination was 7.07 ± 6.95. Signal recording measures using the NISDM during finger puncture and venipuncture were significantly greater compared with measures at rest and making sound, indicating higher signal levels were associated with pain. PAINAD scores were significantly correlated with physiological measures for vocalization variables of sound amplitude (r = 0.49, P <.001), shimmer (r = 0.63, P <.001), and inhalation-to-exhalation amplitude ratio (r = 0.48, P <.001). With the recent rapid development of the Internet of Vehicles and autonomous driving technology, the demand for digital vehicle identification has also increased. Coupled with the gradual maturity of quantum technology, the Internet of Vehicles, which mainly uses wireless communication technology for data transmission, will face the threat of quantum computing and privacy issues. This research proposes the Vehicle Forensics Cloud System (VFCS), a framework combining post-quantum cryptography and blockchain technology to address these issues and provide a comprehensive solution for vehicle digital forensics.

The study uses machine learning to determine the accuracy of different algorithms for predicting MetS. Early prediction of MetS through routine health screening is an important goal for preventive medicine. The subjects in this study were employees aged 20 to 65 years old who signed a consent form for in-hospital health screening data were collected from 2015 to 2020. Total of 3538 individuals who underwent health screening were included in this study. Baseline characteristics of the 315 participants diagnosed with metabolic syndrome and 3222 participants without metabolic syndrome. This is a machine learning approach to identify metabolic syndrome using biochemical values and lifestyle habits. We found that the F1 score for detection of metabolic syndrome by neural network is the most accurate and higher compared to other models. Our study also identified some new indicators, including heart rhythm, RBC, WBC, Hb, and uric acid, as candidates for better detection of metabolic syndrome.

The Mekong River Basin (MRB) is one of the highest biodiversity areas in the world and is the vital source of livelihoods for more than 60 millions of people over six countries in Southeast Asia. However, it is suffering from a severe sediment starvation problem caused by climate change and human activities, particularly dam constructions. Understanding long-term sediment changes thus plays a crucial role for management and contingency plans. Current sediment concentration data in the MRB are extremely sporadic, making it a non-trivial task to analyze them. This paper focuses on the sediment reconstruction to provide long-term reliable suspended sediment concentration (SSC) data using Machine Learning (ML) perspectives. In particular, a novel semi-supervised ML model, which can effectively deal with data sparsity, is introduced to predict/reconstruct missing sediment data. The key idea of this approach is to exploit abundant available hydroclimate data to reduce training overfitting rather than solely relying on sediment concentration data, thus enhancing the accuracy of the employed ML models. Extensive experiments on data obtained from 1979 to 2019 at the three main stations (i.e., Chiang Saen, Nong Khai, and Mukdahan) are conducted to demonstrate the performances of the proposed method compared to other state-of-the-art supervised techniques and traditional simulation methods commonly used in previous sediment forecasting/reconstruction studies. To the best of our knowledge, this approach is the first semi-supervised method to reconstruct sediment data in the field. Though this study focuses on the MRB, sediment sparsity is a very common problem in other river systems worldwide. Thus, this method can be widely applied for them for more effective sediment reconstruction/prediction in general. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

We present a new LSTM (P-LSTM: Progressive LSTM) network, aiming to predict morphology and states of cell colonies from time-lapse microscopy images. Apparent short-term changes occur in some types of time-lapse cell images. Therefore, long-term-memory dependent LSTM networks may not predict accurately. The P-LSTM network incorporates the images newly generated from cell imaging progressively into LSTM training to emphasize the LSTM short-term memory and thus improve the prediction accuracy. The new images are input into a buffer to be selected for batch training. For real-time processing, parallel computation is introduced to implement concurrent training and prediction on partitioned *** types of stem cell images were used to show effectiveness of the P-LSTM network. One is for tracking of ES cell colonies. The actual and predicted ES cell images possess similar colony areas and the same transitions of colony states (moving, merging or morphology changing), although the predicted colony mergers may delay in several time-steps. The other is for prediction of iPS cell reprogramming from the CD34+ human cord blood cells. The actual and predicted iPS cell images possess high similarity evaluated by the PSNR and SSIM similarity evaluation metrics, indicating the reprogramming iPS cell colony features and morphology can be accurately predicted.

Anaerobic fermentation for hydrogen production has many environmental factors that limit microbial activity, but machine learning has enormous potential in handling the complexity of biological processes. This study explores the potential of machine learning in predicting hydrogen production rates (HPR) from anaerobic fermentation of biomass energy. Grey relation analysis was conducted to determine the correlation between operational parameters and HPR. Five machine learning algorithms, such as decision tree (DT), random forest (RF), extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), and K-nearest neighbor (KNN), were then paired with operating conditions and water quality performance as features and HPR as a label, with mean squared error (MSE) and R2 as evaluation indexes. Butyric acid, oxidation-reduction potential (ORP), and volatile suspended solids (VSS) were found to play crucial roles in hydrogen production from sucrose anaerobic fermentation. XGBoost had the highest accuracy with R2 of 0.91 and MSE of 0.0052. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The palm oil business employs almost 20 million people, generates USD 21 billion in revenue, and plays a vital role in Indonesia’s social economy. The Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB) to Palm Oil Mills (POM) distribution system is one important aspect of fruit quality. Three steps are involved in getting Oil Palm FFB from the plantation to the POM. The first part of the procedure involves cutting FFB from the tree, the second stage involves gathering the fruit at a fruit collection point (FCP), and the third stage involves transporting the fruit to the palm oil mill (POM). As of now, the cost of the FFB transportation is still considerable, accounting for roughly 15% to 20% of the FFB pricing. The use of the Business Intelligence (BI) idea in the oil palm harvesting system is presented in this study as a foundation for creating web-based applications.

The precise diagnosis of urinary stones is crucial for devising effective treatment strategies. The diagnostic process, however, is often complicated by the low contrast between stones and surrounding tissues, as well as the variability in stone locations across different patients. To address this issue, we propose a novel location embedding based pairwise distance learning network (LEPD-Net) that leverages low-dose abdominal X-ray imaging combined with location information for the fine-grained diagnosis of urinary stones. LEPD-Net enhances the representation of stone-related features through context-aware region enhancement, incorporates critical location knowledge via stone location embedding, and achieves recognition of fine-grained objects with our innovative fine-grained pairwise distance learning. Additionally, we have established an in-house dataset on urinary tract stones to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed approach. Being increasingly dense and mature in layout, Internet has become an infrastructure for a state. The traditional single server can no longer bear the network traffic in rapid growth. For example, once the booking service for concert tickets is made available to the public, we are always prompted when clicking into the booking system that the server is busy. And when the system is finally restored normal, the tickets have been sold out. The load issue puzzling the ticket system also occurs in the transportation section every time when a long holiday is coming. Even though the system is updated on a yearly basis, net- work congestion still happens frequently. Therefore, there is still great space for the development of the ways and mechanisms of load balance in traditional multi-servers. Evaluation of the mech- anism and efficacy of load balance through P4Switch is proposed in this paper in the hope to achieve more efficient server load balance. © 2019 IEEE.

Matrix factorization (MF) technique has been widely utilized in recommendation systems due to the precise prediction of users' interests. Prior MF-based methods adapt the overall rating to make the recommendation by extracting latent factors from users and items. However, in real applications, people's preferences usually vary with time;the traditional MF-based methods could not properly capture the change of users' interests. In this paper, by incorporating the recurrent neural network (RNN) into MF, we develop a novel recommendation system, M-RNN-F, to effectively describe the preference evolution of users over time. A learning model is proposed to capture the evolution pattern and predict the user preference in the future. The experimental results show that M-RNN-F performs better than other state-of-the-art recommendation algorithms. In addition, we conduct the experiments on real world dataset to demonstrate the practicability. © 2019 IEEE.
