computerscience students must be able to support the global software development phenomena;therefore they should enhance their teamwork, communication, negotiation, leadership and collaboration skills. It pushes the educational institutions to rethink the way in which they are transferring the soft skills, e.g. collaboration capabilities, to the new software engineers. Advances in developing platforms, wideband communications, global markets, technological trends and outsourcing promote the conception of a global software engineering. Trying to help address this issue, this paper describes the results of two experiences where a CODILA(Collaborative and Distributed Learning Activity) was used to solve a software engineering problem in a distributed way. These experiences involved students and instructors of eight Latin American universities. We have measured the development of collaboration skills and satisfaction level of computerscience students participating in these distributed collaborative practices, and the obtained results are highly encouraging.

People store personal information like PIN numbers, account numbers etc. in the PDA. No one should access this information except the owner. Owner should be authenticated to use the gadget. Textual passwords are vulnerable to dictionary attacks, social engineering and shoulder surfing. Many graphical schemes are proposed to address these problems, but most of them are vulnerable to shoulder-surfing. Two authentication techniques-Pair based, and Text based Image Authentication are proposed in this paper which are resistant to shoulder surfing.

For a given mountain-valley pattern of equidistant creases on a lone paper strip, there are many folded states consistent with the pattern. Among these folded states, we like to fold a paper so that the number of the paper layers between each pair of hinged paper segments. which is called the crease width at the crease point, is minimized. This problem is called the stamp folding problem and there are two variants of this problem;minimization of the maximum crease width, and minimization of the total crease width. This optimization problem is recently introduced and investigated from the viewpoint of the counting problem. However, its computational complexity is not known. In this paper, we first show that the minimization problem of the maximum crease width is strongly NP-complete. Hence we cannot solve the problem in polynomial time unless P=NP. We next propose an algorithm that solves the minimization problem. The algorithm itself is a straightforward one, but its analysis is not trivial. We show that this algorithm runs in O(n(2)((n+k)(k))) time where n is the number of creases and k is the total crease width. That is, the algorithm runs in O(n(k+2)) time for a constant k. Hence we can solve the problem efficiently for a small constant k.

Our paper provides a method to manage sustainable service levels in call centers. We defined a service level management process and a related capacity and workforce management that considers Erlang-A operational model for staffing levels. Based on such model, we compute the minimum sustainable price for a service contract based on the fixed service levels, and enable transparent pricing against a certified service level. The model has been implemented in a tool and are being tested in real call centers.

This paper considers optimized network topology design and distributed control for linear discrete-time systems consisting of subsystems interconnected through states, inputs, and a cost function. By using a distributed control law, which makes use of the communicated states of other subsystems, closed-loop performance is increased at the expense of communication costs. This raises the question of how to find a topology and associated distributed control law with optimal trade-off between communication costs and closed-loop performance. As an answer to this question, we propose an approach to simultaneous optimization of network topology and control law with respect to a cost function which combines a quadratic performance criterion with costs associated to the presence of communication links. The problem is formulated as mixed-integer semi-definite problem (MISDP) where the discrete optimization of the network topology subject to communication constraints and embedded subproblems for structured controller synthesis lead to an upper bound for the combined cost. An example is used to illustrate the method.
