Polynomial-time hierarchy of computable reals

In mathematics, various representations of real numbers have been investigated and all these representations are proved to be mathematically equivalent. Furthermore, it is known that all effective versions of these representations lead to the same class of "computable real numbers". However, when subrecursive (such as primitive recursive) is taken into account, these representations can lead to different notions of "computable real numbers". This paper will look into the polynomial-time version of the problem for computable real numbers under different representations. We will summarize the known results to exhibit the comprehensive hierarchy they form. Our goal is to clarify systematically how the polynomial-time computability depends on the representations of the real numbers. Copyright © 2011 Binary Information Press.

The revolution in web world led to increasing users' needs, demands and expectations. By the time, those needs developed starting from ordinary static pages, moving on to fully dynamic ones and reaching the need for services and applications to be available on the web!.. Those demands changed the perspective of our web today to what's said to be a cloud of computing that aims mainly to provide applications as services for web user. As time goes by, applications were just not enough;users needed their applications and data available anytime, anywhere. For these reasons, traditional operating system functionality was needed to be provided as a service that integrates several applications together with user's data. In this paper we present the detailed description, implementation and evaluation of SEWOS [1]- a semantically enhanced web operating system- that provides the feel, look and mimic traditional desktop applications using desktop metaphor.

Since the first success of satellite laser communication experiments, their developments and researches have been much studied as a new satellite communication technology. From those experimental results, it is known that an instantaneous degradation of received optical power and link disconnection occur due to air turbulence or tracking error in the satellite-to-ground laser transmission. Therefore, forward error correction (FEC) is needed to achieve a high-quality transmission and the application of low-density parity check (LDPC) code for the satellite laser communication has been proposed. However, further application of land mobile communication techniques for achieving higher capacity is not fully discussed. One of the candidates of this application for more efficient satellite laser communication is a multi-hop transmission, which can be applied for geostationary satellite (GEO)-to-ground or deep space-to-ground links. Therefore, we propose a multi-relay cooperative LDPC transmission scheme for satellite laser communications to obtain an improved transmission quality with lower decoding complexity. Current pathway presentation method to the biologist is static graph. The analysis of differentially expressed genes using microarray gene expression data can help to find factors that affect diseases. However, the differentially expressed genes that are identified may be too large in number and it's difficult for biologist to pinpoint the correlations between genes and crucial points on pathway interactively. In this study, we propose a method that attempts to avoid this problem and allows the discovery of greater biological meaning than the traditional method. We select a gene pair set of interacting genes in a biological pathway and investigate the correlation in expression between the gene pairs under different condition (such as relapsed and non-relapsed breast cancer) using microarray gene expression data. We tested the approach using breast cancer relapsed and non-relapsed datasets in order to demonstrate that our method is both useful and reliable; very stable results were obtained when the same microarray platform was used. We finally use an interface to display correlations within a biological pathway.

In this study, a new type of trigonometric neural network is presented by adding frequency and phase to trigonometric activation functions. The proposed trigonometric neural network has more flexibility in comparison with conventional trigonometric neural networks and even other types of neural networks. Due to the low convergence rate and high posibility of trapping in a local minimum of backpropagation algorithm, Extended Kalman Filter algorithm is used to train the neural network's parameters which they appear in a nonlinear form. The Simulation of the suggested neural network based on the prediction of Mackey-Glass time series and identification of a nonlinear dynamic ystem reveals the efficiency of the proposed network. To show the efficiency of this method, the results are compared with the results of the others.

As an emerging portable service platform, OSGi is now taking a more and more important role in Ubiquitous Computing environment. As a module management framework, OSGi provides the functions of dynamic loading and unloading software modules at runtime. But its use is limited because it is centralized and single programming language supported. In this paper we present LIR-OSGi, an extended framework of OSGi, which is designed to add the distribution and programming language independence to OSGi. Meanwhile it is easy to use for developers because of the transparence of service invocation and automation of distribution. Not like OSGi which can be applied only on the Java platform, LIR-OSGi makes programs which may be written in different programming languages be able to call each other transparently so that it can be applied in many different platforms such as DotNet Framework and so on. This brings much convenience to the program development in a distributed and heterogeneous environment.

This paper presents a unified control method for the combined permanent magnet generator (PMG) and three-phase boost rectifier that can be used in autonomous power systems such as more-electric aircraft requiring high power density. With the unified control, the paper shows the system can function well without additional boost inductors. The design procedure for the control is presented, including current loops, voltage loop, reactive power loop and rotor position estimator loop. Simulation and experimental results show that both the DC link voltage and reactive power could be controlled effectively. In addition, the paper proposes a method to optimize the overall system efficiency by appropriate reactive power distribution. The power density and efficiency of the PMG and rectifier system is improved with the unified control.

This paper describes the analysis of golf swing motion based on measurements obtained by a very simple device. Conventional studies generally use large, expensive equipment such as high-speed cameras. In this study, we used a small, low-cost device employing 3D acceleration and gyroscopic sensors. The device was attached to the grip end of the golf club in order to measure the grip motion angle during the golf swing. The results of the experiment are in good agreement with the results obtained from high-speed cameras.

Runtime testing is a common way to detect faults during normal system operation. To achieve a specific diagnostic coverage runtime testing is also used in safety critical, automotive embedded systems. In this paper we propose a test architecture to consolidate the hardware resource consumption and timing needs of runtime tests and of application and system tasks in a hard real-time embedded system as applied to the automotive domain. Special emphasis is put to timing requirements of embedded systems with respect to hard real-time and concurrent hardware resource accesses of runtime tests and tasks running on the target system.

From field-scale measurements to global climate simulations and remote sensing, the growing body of very large and long time series Earth science data are increasingly difficult to analyze, visualize, and interpret. Data mining, information theoretic, and machine learning techniques—such as cluster analysis, singular value decomposition, block entropy, Fourier and wavelet analysis, phase-space reconstruction, and artificial neural networks—are being applied to problems of segmentation, feature extraction, change detection, model-data comparison, and model validation. The size and complexity of Earth science data exceed the limits of most analysis tools and the capacities of desktop computers. New scalable analysis and visualization tools, running on parallel cluster computers and supercomputers, are required to analyze data of this magnitude. This workshop will demonstrate how data mining techniques are applied in the Earth sciences and describe innovative computer science methods that support analysis and discovery in the Earth sciences.
