With the rapid evolution of network speed from 1Gbps to 10Gbps, a wide spectrum of research has been done on TCP/IP to improve its processing efficiency on general purpose processors. However, most of them did studies only from the performance perspective and ignored its power efficiency. As power has become a major concern in data centers, where servers are often interconnected with 10GbE, it becomes critical to understand power efficiency of TCP/IP packet processing over 10GbE. In this paper, we extensively examine power consumption of TCP/IP packet processing over 10GbE on Intel Nehalem platforms across a range of I/O sizes by using a power analyzer. In order to understand the power consumption, we use an external Data Acquisition system (DAQ) to obtain a breakdown of power consumption for individual hardware components such as CPU, memory and NIC etc. In addition, as integrated NIC architectures are gaining more attention in high-end servers, we also study power consumption of TCP/IP packet processing on an integrated NIC by using a Sun Niagara 2 processor with two integrated 10GbE NICs. We carefully compare the power efficiency of using an integrated NIC with using a PCI-E based discrete NIC. We make many new observations as follows: 1) Unlike 1GbE NICs, 10GbE NICs have high idle power dissipation, and TCP/IP packet processing over 10GbE consumes significant dynamic power. 2) Our power breakdown reveals that CPU is the major source of the dynamic power consumption, followed by memory. As the I/O size increases, the CPU power consumption reduces but the memory power consumption grows. Compared to CPU and memory, NIC has low dynamic power consumption. 3) Large I/O sizes are much more power efficient than small I/O sizes. 4) While integrating a 10GbE NIC slightly increases CPU power consumption, it not only reduces system idle power dissipation due to elimination of PCI-E interface in NICs, but also achieves dynamic power savings due to better processing efficienc

This study was mainly about genetic algorithms of feature selection. The features adopted by this paper include CCM and DBPSP for the relationship between color and texture, CHKM for the color information of an image. The genetic algorithm of this study is implemented by MatLab program. The genetic algorithm optimization and searching technology adopted mechanics of genes and natural selection, and the algorithm implementation steps are: population initialization, fitness functions, selection, crossover, mutation, iteration and evolution. Feature selections used here are Sequential Forward Selection (SFS), Sequential Backward Selection (SBS), and the genetic algorithm-based feature selection used in this essay respectively. This study was analyzed and compared the result of the experiment respectively. The experiment was carried out for comparing the image retrieval accuracy, feature selection and computing time of image retrieval.

We propose a simple data hiding algorithm, the one's complement substitution process, for spatial-domain still images. Different from the LSBs substitution and optimal pixel adjustment process (OPAP), our method limits the distortion of each pixel within 2 bits while 3 bits (k=3) or 4 bits (k=4) of information are to embed/replace the original 3 or 4 LSBs, at the cost of one extra bit (k=3) or two bits (k=4) for recovering if the one's complement process has been performed. Experimental results show the proposed method improves in average 10.2% (for k=3) and 27.19% (for k=4), in PSNR respectively, as compared with the OPAP, for the benchmark images.

The benefits of using mobile sink to prolong sensor network lifetime have been well recognized. However, few provably theoretical results remain are developed due to the complexity caused by time-dependent network topology. In this work, we investigate the optimum routing strategy for the static sensor *** further propose a number of motion stratifies for the mobile sink(s) to gather real time data from static sensor network, with the objective to maximize the network lifetime. Specially, we consider a more realistic model where the moving speed and path for mobile sinks are constrained. Our extensive experiments show that our scheme can significantly prolong entire network lifetime and reduce delivery delay.
