Since a significant amount of redundant information causes problems like inefficiency or congestion in the existing RSS, a method using part of speech (pos) tagging to extract keywords is proposed to solve these problems. Firstly, the title of news is analyzed by using Chinese word segmentation and speech tagging system. Then, the keywords of the title are identified according to their part of speech. All of the extracted keywords are compared, categorized and stored according to the proposed criterion in this paper. In that case, all the news in the same category is identical or similar. This paper presents a new method for classification of underwater transient signals, which employs frame-based decision with mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC). The MFCC feature vector is extracted frame-by-frame basis for an input signal that is detected as a transient signal, and Euclidean distances are calculated between this and all MFCC feature vectors in the reference database. Then each frame of the detected input signal is mapped to the class having minimum Euclidean distance in the reference database. Finally the input signal is classified as the class that has maximum mapping rate in the reference database. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method is very promising for classification of underwater transient signals.

It now becomes a trend to implement the interconnections between resources as well as services in ubiquitous systems. Attribute-based authorization mechanisms, protocols and systems are gaining in popularity, such as SAML, XACML, Shibboleth, etc. However, their management efficiency could be further improved. The Role-based Access Control (RBAC) mechanism is widely accepted as a general mechanism for authorization management. However, RBAC is still not flexible enough to address various application scenarios in ubiquitous systems. We propose a new architecture for access control in ubiquitous systems that impose attribute and status constraints on the RBAC model, which can significantly enhance the generality and flexibility of authorization by integrating the advantages of RBAC and attributed- based access control models. Moreover, the state mechanism proposed in this architecture captures the states of the authorization elements so as to reflect the outcomes of the authorization control. Finally, we analyze the flexibility and generality of this architecture in ubiquitous systems.

Hundreds of thousands circuits can not be verified easily while develop a field programmable gate array (FPGA) system. In this paper, we develop a functional verification tool, namely FVT, to verify the designer defined specification of functionalities with simulator and emulator in a FPGA system. In addition, FVT can point out the exact bugs for functionality where locates at specific cycle. Experiment results show that FVT can save time up to 99%.

In this paper, we present hardware-oriented partitioning approach that can solve the partitioning issues for embedded multiprocessor FPGA systems. In addition, it can gain a better partitioning result, faster execution time, less memory and higher slice used rate, under satisfied system constraints. We also demonstrate the feasibility of our approach by a JPEG encoding system using Xilinx ML310 FPGA platform. Experiment results show that the execution time and memory size are improved.

In this paper, we propose an enhancement partition method that incorporates formal partition, fitting system constraints and hardware orient partition algorithm to solve partitioning issue for embedded multiprocessor FPGA systems. With formal partition, we can rapidly obtain a set of partitioning results that satisfy the system constraints on the number of processors. To fit various system constraints, we find out all partition result sets by fitting system constraints. Finally, hardware orient partition can provide a nearly best partition result for designer to develop multiprocessors system-on-a-chip system. Experiment results show that the proposed method can obtain the fitting best partitioning result than other partitioning method using JPEG encoding system example.

The nanoparticles (NPs) have been widely used to supersede the conventional charge trapping layers (CTLs) of the silicon-oxide-nitride-oxide-silicon devices for reducing the charge loss due to a local leakage path. Moreover, to reduce the gate tunneling leakage current, the high-dielectric-constant (high-k) gate oxides with the identical equivalent-oxide thickness (EOT) are promising for the advanced metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) devices applications. Therefore, the NPs embedded in the high-k gate dielectric would be an attractive technology option for the nonvolatile memory device (NVM) applications.

Dependability requirements such as safety and availability often conflict with one another making the development of dependable systems challenging. It is not always possible to design a system that fulfils all of its dependability requirements and consequently, it is necessary to identify conflicts early in the development process and to optimize the architectural design with regard to dependability and cost. This paper first provides an overview of fifteen different approaches to optimizing system designs at an architectural level. Then an abstract method is proposed that synthesises the main points of the different approaches to yield a generic approach that could be applied across a wide variety of different system attributes. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2007.

The MediaScout system is envisioned to function as personalized media (audio, video, print) service within mobile phones, online media portals, sling boxes, etc. The MediaScout recommender engine uses a novel stereotype-based recommendation engine. Upon the registration of new users the system must decide how to classify the new users to existing stereotypes. In this paper we present a method to achieve this classification through an anytime, interactive questionnaire, created automatically upon the generation of new stereotypes. Data Modeling is an essential first step for data preparation in any data mining procedure. Conventional entity-relational (E-R) data modeling is lossy, irreproducible, and time-consuming especially when dealing with unstructured image data associated with complex systems like the human brain. We propose a methodological framework for more objective E-R data modeling by eliminating the structured content-dependent metadata associated with the unstructured data. The proposed method is applied to epilepsy-related image data and a system called the human brain image database system (HBIDS) is developed accordingly. Supported with navigation, segmentation, data fusion, and feature extraction modules, HBIDS provides a content-based support environment (C-BASE). Such an environment potentially provides an unlimited (ad hoc) query support with a reproducible and efficient database schema. Switching between different modalities of data, while confining the feature extractors within the object(s) of interest, HBIDS yields anatomically specific query results. The price of such scheme is large storage requirements and relatively high computational cost. Examples of navigation through unstructured image data and content-based retrieval are presented in this paper. The results show the potential of HBIDS in content-based data management for decision support systems in real life medical applications. © 2007 IEEE.
