Single-Frequency Self-Alignment RF Resonant Beam for information and Power Transfer

Due to power attenuation, improving transmission efficiency in the radio-frequency (RF) band remains a significant challenge, which hinders advancements in various fields of the Internet of Things (IoT), such as wireless power transfer (WPT) and wireless communication. Array design and retro-directive beamforming (RD-BF) techniques offer simple and effective ways to enhance transmission efficiency. However, when the target is an array or in the near field, the RD-BF system (RD-BFS) cannot radiate more energy to the target due to phase irregularities in the target region, resulting in challenges in achieving higher efficiency. To address this issue, we propose the RF-based resonant beam system (RF-RBS), which adaptively optimizes phase and power distribution between transmitting and receiving arrays by leveraging the resonance mechanism to achieve higher transmission efficiency. We analyze the system structure and develop an analytical model to evaluate power flow and resonance establishment. Numerical analysis demonstrates that the proposed RF-RBS achieves self-alignment without beam control and provides higher transmission efficiency compared to RD-BFS, with improvements of up to 16%. This self-alignment capability allows the system to effectively transfer power and information across varying distances and offsets. The numerical results indicate the capability to transmit watt-level power and achieve 21 bps/Hz of downlink spectral efficiency in indoor settings, highlighting the advantages of RF-RBS in information and power transfer for mobile applications. © 2025 IEEE.

Covert communication is considered a promising technology for hiding transmission processes and activities from malicious eavesdropping. With the development of detection technology, the traditional point-to-point covert communication method cannot effectively guarantee the reliability of covert communication. In order to solve this problem, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) are widely adopted in covert communication as common relay equipment. However, the UAV maximizes its benefits by taking advantage of the information asymmetry between itself and the covert communication sender. Therefore, it is necessary to encourage UAV-assisted potential users (UPU) to transmit covert data honestly by designing an information asymmetry-based incentive mechanism. In this paper, we propose a UAV-assisted contract-theoretic (UACT) model to improve the covert communication performance, where UPU honestly transmits covert data and the throughput of UACT can be increased. Specifically, we first divide UPU into finite types and model the data transfer contract between the sender, UPU, and receiver. Then, the contract feasibility of UACT is derived with sufficient and necessary conditions. Finally, we analyze the contract optimization in the continuous case of UPUs. Numerical simulations show that the UACT can incentivize UPUs to transmit covert data through UAV assistance and make covert communication performance close to the information symmetry case. © 1967-2012 IEEE.

Video forgery localization using inter-frame denoising and intra-frame segmentation

Video forgery detection has been necessary with recent spurt in fake videos like Deepfakes and doctored videos from multiple video capturing devices. In this paper, we provide a novel technique of detecting fake videos by creating an ensemble network, based on statistical and deep learning methods to detect interframe forgery and intraframe forgery in forged videos separately. In this paper, Noise signature extraction of a particular image capturing sensor and an Autoencoder-based Convolutional Neural Network model (CNN) are used to localize the forged regions. We have trained the model to localize Deepfake video forgeries as well as copy-paste forgeries with effective results in the test data. The proposed fake video detector can be applied at the back-end of on-line video aggregating services and check their authenticity to verify the genuineness of videos. In the contemporary business landscape, software has evolved into a strategic asset crucial for organizations seeking sustainable competitive advantage. The imperative of ensuring software quality becomes evident as low-quality software systems pose formidable challenges to organizational performance. This study delves into the profound impact of three key dimensions of information system quality on organizational performance—information quality (IQ), quality of service (QoS), and software quality (SQ). Anchored in the DeLone and McLean information system (IS) success model, a quantitative questionnaire was administered to 360 industry experts and academics. Rigorous data analysis, employing exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and structural equation modeling (SEM), revealed significant positive effects of all three quality dimensions on organizational performance. Among these dimensions, software quality emerged as the most influential, showcasing substantial total effects, closely followed by information and service qualities. The study underscores the tangible value derived from strategic investments in enhancing software, information, and service quality. Elevating these facets manifests as a catalyst for improved organizational performance, empowering decision-makers with accurate and timely information while enhancing user satisfaction with the system. This research contributes significantly to the IS success literature by empirically validating the synergistic relationship between information quality, service quality, software quality, and organizational outcomes. The systematic analysis offered in this study goes beyond theoretical validation, providing actionable insights for managers. The findings guide the prioritization of quality initiatives and resource allocation, enabling organizations to maximize competitive advantage. With the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technology, smart cities possess the capability to advance their public transportation modalities, address prevalent trafﬁc congestion challenges, reﬁne infrastructure, and optimize communication frameworks, thereby augmenting their progression towards heightened urbanization. Through the integration of sensors, cell phones, artiﬁcial intelligence (AI), data analytics, and cloud computing, smart cities worldwide are evolving to be more efﬁcient, productive, and responsive to their residents’ needs. While the promise of smart cities has been marked over the past decade, notable challenges, especially in the realm of security, threaten their optimal realization. This research provides a comprehensive survey on IoT in smart cities. It focuses on the IoT-based smart city components. Moreover, it provides explanation for integrating different technologies with IoT for smart cities such as AI, sensing technologies, and networking technologies. Additionally, this study provides several case studies for smart cities. In addition, this study investigates the challenges of adopting IoT in smart cities and provides prevention methods for each challenge. Moreover, this study provides future directions for the upcoming researchers. Breaking the Interference and Fading Gridlock in Backscatter Communications: State-of-the-Art, Design Challenges, and Future Directions

As the Internet of Things (IoT) advances by leaps and bounds, a multitude of devices are becoming interconnected, marking the onset of an era where everything is connected. While this growth opens up opportunities for novel products and applications, it also leads to increased energy reliance on IoT devices, creating a significant bottleneck that hinders sustainable progress. Backscatter communication (BackCom), as a low-power and passive communication technology, emerges as one of the promising solutions to this energy impasse by reducing the manufacturing cost and energy consumption for IoT devices. However, BackCom systems also face some challenges, such as complex interference environments, including the direct-link interference (DLI) and the mutual interference (MI) between tags, which severely disrupt the efficiency of BackCom networks. Moreover, the double-path fading is another major issue that leads to a degraded system performance. To fully unleash the potential of BackComs, the purpose of this paper is to furnish a comprehensive review of existing solutions with a focus on addressing these challenges, offering an insightful analysis and comparison of various strategies. Specifically, we begin by introducing the preliminaries for BackCom, including its history, operating mechanisms, main architectures, etc., providing a foundational understanding of this field. Then, we delve into fundamental issues related to BackCom systems, such as solutions for the DLI, the MI, and the double-path fading. This paper thoroughly provides state-of-the-art advances for each case, particularly highlighting how the latest innovations in theoretical approaches and system design can strategically address these challenges. Finally, we explore emerging trends and challenges in BackComs by forecasting potential technological advancements and providing insights and guidelines for navigating the intricate landscape of future communication needs in a rapidly evolving IoT ecosystem.

The rapid proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, coupled with the rollout of advanced 5G networks, has generated significant concerns regarding security breaches. These concerns stem from the expanded attack surfaces that come with improved connectivity, making IoT systems more vulnerable to malicious threats. A crucial strategy to counter these security challenges is the implementation of robust user authentication methods. Despite numerous proposals for multi-factor authentication mechanisms, many of these systems exhibit weaknesses, particularly in their susceptibility to user impersonation attacks and the risks posed by stolen mobile devices. Furthermore, several schemes fail to incorporate essential features such as session key agreements or backup solutions for instances of lost or stolen devices and compromised private keys. To address urgent security challenges in IoT environments, we developed a three-factor user authentication system tailored for low-cost IoT devices. This system tackles critical vulnerabilities while maintaining low computing and communication costs, enhancing security without compromising usability and efficiency. © 2025 Slovene Society Informatika. HViTML: Hybrid vision transformer with machine learning-based classification model for glaucomatous eye

Glaucoma is currently one of the most significant causes of permanent blindness. Fundus imaging is the most popular glaucoma screening method because of the compromises it has to make in terms of portability, size, and cost. In recent years, convolution neural networks (CNNs) have revolutionized computer vision. Convolution is a "local" CNN technique that is only applicable to a small region surrounding an image. Vision Transformers (ViT) use self-attention, which is a "global" activity since it collects information from the entire image. As a result, the ViT can successfully gather distant semantic relevance from an image. This study examined several optimizers, including Adamax, SGD, RMSprop, Adadelta, Adafactor, Nadam, and Adagrad. With 1750 Healthy and Glaucoma images in the IEEE fundus image dataset and 4800 healthy and glaucoma images in the LAG fundus image dataset, we trained and tested the ViT model on these datasets. Additionally, the datasets underwent image scaling, auto-rotation, and auto-contrast adjustment via adaptive equalization during preprocessing. The results demonstrated that preparing the provided dataset with various optimizers improved accuracy and other performance metrics. Additionally, according to the results, the Nadam Optimizer improved accuracy in the adaptive equalized preprocessing of the IEEE dataset by up to 97.8% and in the adaptive equalized preprocessing of the LAG dataset by up to 92%, both of which were followed by auto rotation and image resizing processes. In addition to integrating our vision transformer model with the shift tokenization model, we also combined ViT with a hybrid model that consisted of six different models, including SVM, Gaussian NB, Bernoulli NB, Decision Tree, KNN, and Random Forest, based on which optimizer was the most successful for each dataset. Empirical results show that the SVM Model worked well and improved accuracy by up to 93% with precision of up to 94% in the adaptive equalization preprocess

Cataract surgery, a widely performed operation worldwide, is incorporating semantic segmentation to advance computer-assisted intervention. However, the tissue appearance and illumination in cataract surgery often differ among clinical centers, intensifying the issue of domain shifts. While domain adaptation offers remedies to the shifts, the necessity for data centralization raises additional privacy concerns. To overcome these challenges, we propose a Multi-view Test-time Adaptation algorithm (MUTA) to segment cataract surgical scenes, which leverages multi-view learning to enhance model training within the source domain and model adaptation within the target domain. In the training phase, the segmentation model is equipped with multi-view decoders to boost its robustness against variations in cataract surgery. During the inference phase, test-time adaptation is implemented using multi-view knowledge distillation, enabling model updates in clinics without data centralization or privacy concerns. We conducted experiments in a simulated cross-center scenario using several cataract surgery datasets to evaluate the effectiveness of MUTA. Through comparisons and investigations, we have validated that MUTA effectively learns a robust source model and adapts the model to target data during the practical inference phase. © 1982-2012 IEEE.
