Rice spikelet’s disease detection using hybrid optimization model and optimized CNN

Rice fields all across the world are affected by spikelet sterility, often known as rice spikelet's disease. It is characterized by the improper development of spikelet’s, which lowers grain output and quality. For optimal management and the avoidance of yield losses, this disease must be discovered early. In this study, a deep learning-based approach utilizing optimization techniques was proposed for accurate segmentation and disease detection in rice crops. The research aimed to address the vulnerability of rice crops to disease attacks from seed germination to mature spikelets. The proposed model consisted of three major phases: pre-processing, segmentation, feature extraction and disease detection. Gaussian filtering was employed to preprocess the raw rice crop images, while a new hybrid Whale Customized Gravitational Optimization Algorithm was utilized for segmentation. Disease detection was performed using a hybrid deep learning model called HybridNet, which combines convolutional neural networks (CNN) with an optimized recurrent neural network (RNN) model. The dataset intended for this proposed project is sourced from the CABI PlantwisePlus Knowledge Bank. The proposed model for rice spikelet disease detection achieved high accuracy with Sensitivity (0.9269), Specificity (0.9756), and Accuracy (0.9634). This indicates that the model effectively identifies and detects diseases in rice spikelets, demonstrating its reliable performance in disease management and crop protection. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Relay Type Link Fabrication Attack in SDN: A Review

Software-defined Networking (SDN) is an innovative network architecture tailored to address the modern demands of network virtualization and cloud computing, which require features such as programmability, flexibility, agility, and openness to foster innovation. However, this architecture also brings forth new security challenges, particularly due to the separation of the data plane from the control plane. Our investigation centers on a specific vulnerability termed link fabrication, which can lead to topology poisoning. A compromised network topology can cause substantial disruptions across the entire network infrastructure. Through a systematic survey, we identified that significant research efforts have been directed towards mitigating link fabrication attacks. We classified the existing studies into six categories of vulnerabilities: Host-based, port amnesia, invisible assailant attack, topology freezing, switch-based link fabrication, and link latency. Furthermore, our survey highlights several open challenges in areas such as Programmable dataplane, dedicated attack trees and threat models, active defense and mitigation strategies, as well as controller awareness and machine learning. To address the vulnerabilities identified, we propose the implementation of a distance-bounding protocol concept at the control plane as a potential solution. © 2019 IEEE.

Identification of domain-specific euphemistic tweets using clustering

Social media platforms (SMPs) are frequently utilised as a readily accessible and comprehensive medium for expressing personal opinions nowdays. The use of euphemism, a linguistic strategy in which the underlying feeling of expressive content is veiled by the use of mild language, has been a longtime practise in the realm of SMPs for the purpose of reducing harshness or to discuss sensitive topics [1]. The identification of masked contents [2] in euphemism is challenging due to their inherent nature. This study presents a proposed identification mechanism aimed at detecting domain-specific euphemisms through the utilisation of clustering techniques. The pattern categorization feature is created utilising domain-specific lexical features combined with frequency-based features. In order to identify the most suitable match, the hybrid feature extraction algorithms incorporate uni-gram and bi-gram features dependent on frequency based feature, in conjunction with a lexicon. The objective of the dimension reduction phase is to address the issue of sparsity and to identify the most significant words for each sample in order to classify them into different domains using centroid and density-based clustering techniques. The DBSCAN algorithm is employed with an epsilon value of 2.5 and a minimum number of points set to 6, resulting in the identification of 7 distinct clusters. To calculate the optimal value for k in the K-means algorithm, the Silhouette score is utilised. The clusters that were obtained are examined by manual means. We compare our model to FLUTE dataset with epsilon value of 0.2, minpoints of 5 for DBSCAN, and obtain validation score of 0.55. Integrated with a Focus Deep Collaborative Filtering (FDCF) recommendation system, RagaMoodSync delivers tailored raga suggestions that address emotional well-being and stress management. Validated with the FER2013 dataset, the framework demonstrates superior performance over existing approaches. Enhancing link prediction in graph data augmentation through graphon mixup

Link prediction in complex networks is a fundamental problem with applications in diverse domains, from social networks to biological systems. Traditional approaches often struggle to capture intricate relationships in graphs, leading to suboptimal predictions. To address this, we introduce a novel method called graphon mixup (GM), which leverages the power of graphons to enhance link prediction. The augmentation strategy involves generating a synthetic graph by combining the original graph with a graphon-based synthetic graph. This process, expressed as a weighted combination of adjacency matrices, strategically blends real and synthetic information, enriching the training dataset. GM formulates link prediction as a joint optimization problem, aligning the characteristics of the synthetic graph with the true underlying structure. The objective is to minimize cross-entropy loss between predicted and true edge probabilities. A detailed computational complexity analysis evaluates the time and space requirements, aiding in understanding the efficiency and scalability of GM across different datasets and network sizes. Empirical validation on benchmark datasets demonstrates GM’s effectiveness in consistently improving average precision across diverse network types. The proposed method enhances the generalization capabilities of link prediction models, providing a more robust framework capable of accurate predictions even in the presence of noise or unseen patterns. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

An optimized deep network-based intermediate code generation for the mathematical expression

In recent times, the system's mathematical expression and operation have gained greater reach in engineering and mathematics. It is vital to solving more complex expressions and equations in a short time. The most existing methodology was degraded in the recognition performance and provided inaccurate output. Therefore, a novel Squirrel-based Spiking Neural Model (SbSNM) was presented for the intermediate code generation from the mathematical expression relation data. Initially, the input ME relation data was preprocessed to remove noise and tokenized by the spiking neural features. The tokenized expressions were arranged into a syntax tree structure, and then intermediate code was generated by the squirrel functions. Finally, the differentiation was calculated and given as output. Subsequently, the performance parameters were evaluated for the presented SbSNM. The overall accuracy obtained by the presented model is 99.25% which is higher than the other existing techniques and also brought a higher precision and recall rate and f1-score. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Patient Questionnaires Based Parkinson’s Disease Classification Using Artificial Neural Network

Parkinson’s disease is one of the most prevalent and harmful neurodegenerative conditions (PD). Even today, PD diagnosis and monitoring remain pricy and inconvenient processes. With the unprecedented progress of artificial intelligence algorithms, there is an opportunity to develop a cost-effective system for diagnosing PD at an earlier stage. No permanent remedy has been established yet;however, an earlier diagnosis helps lead a better life. Probably, the three most responsible categories of symptoms for Parkinson’s Disease are tremors, rigidity, and body bradykinesia. Therefore, we investigate the 53 unique features of the Parkinson’s Progression Markers Initiative dataset to determine the significant symptoms, including three major categories. As feature selection is integral to developing a generalized model, we investigate including and excluding feature selection. Four feature selection methods are incorporated—low variance filter, Wilcoxon rank-sum test, principle component analysis, and Chi-square test. Furthermore, we utilize machine learning, ensemble learning, and artificial neural networks (ANN) for classification. Experimental evidence shows that not all symptoms are equally important, but no symptom can be completely eliminated. However, our proposed ANN model attains the best mean accuracy of 99.51%, 98.17% mean specificity, 0.9830 mean Kappa Score, 0.99 mean AUC, and 99.70% mean F1-score with all the features. The efficiency of our suggested technique on diverse data modalities is demonstrated by comparison with recent publications. A threshold k out of n, or (k, n), secret sharing with perfect security encodes a secret into n shadows for the n participants such that any k participants are capable of reconstructing the secret using their shadows, while any less than k ones cannot obtain any information about the secret. The shared data is not only safeguarded by the n participants in the threshold access structure, but also tolerant to any loss of up to nk shadows. Exploiting the properties of orthogonal Latin k-cubes, we propose a novel threshold secret sharing scheme with perfect security. The correctness and security of our scheme are formally proved. It is the first threshold scheme with perfect security based on Latin cubes. The computational results demonstrate the applicability and efficiency for sharing media data. The fast encoding/decoding efficiency for small k enables practical applications where timely retrieval of large shared data is required, particularly in scenarios involving consumer electronic devices and cloud services of distributed databases. © 2025 IEEE.

Human activity recognition is a crucial domain in computer science and artificial intelligence that involves the Detection, Classification, and Prediction of human activities using sensor data such as accelerometers, gyroscopes, etc. This field utilizes time-series signals from sensors present in smartphones and wearable devices to extract human activities. Various types of sensors, including inertial HAR sensors, physiological sensors, location sensors, cameras, and temporal sensors, are employed in diverse environments within this domain. It finds valuable applications in various areas such as smart homes, elderly care, the Internet of Things (IoT), personal care, social sciences, rehabilitation engineering, fitness, and more. With the advancement of computational power, deep learning algorithms have been recognized as effective and efficient methods for detecting and solving well-established HAR issues. In this research, a review of various deep learning algorithms is presented with a focus on distinguishing between two key aspects: activity and action. Action refers to specific, short-term movements and behaviors, while activity refers to a set of related, continuous affairs over time. The reviewed articles are categorized based on the type of algorithms and applications, specifically sensor-based and vision-based. The total number of reviewed articles in this research is 80 sources, categorized into 42 references. By offering a detailed classification of relevant articles, this comprehensive review delves into the analysis and scrutiny of the scientific community in the HAR domain using deep learning algorithms. It serves as a valuable guide for researchers and enthusiasts to gain a better understanding of the advancements and challenges within this field. © The Author(s) 2025.

Impact of oxymoron features and deep learning techniques in the detection of sarcastic contents

Even though various features have been investigated in the detection of figurative language, oxymoron features have not been considered in the classification of sarcastic content. The main objective of this work is to present a system that can automatically classify sarcastic phrases in multi-domain data. This multi-domain dataset consisting of 67850 sarcastic and non-sarcastic data is collected from various websites to identify sarcastic or non-sarcastic utterances. Multiple approaches are examined in this work to improve sarcasm identification: 1. A Combination of fasttext embedding, syntactic, semantic, lexical n-gram, and oxymoron features 2. TF-IDF feature weighting scheme 3. Three machine learning algorithms (SVM, Multinomial Naïve Bayes, and Random Forest), three deep learning algorithms (CNN, LSTM, MLP), and one ensemble model (CNN + LSTM) The CNN + LSTM model achieves a Precision of 91.32%, Recall of 92.85%, F-Score of 92.08%, accuracy of 92.01%, and Kappa of 0.84 by combining the fasttext embedding, bigram, syntactic, semantic, and oxymoron features with TF-IDF method. These experimental results show CNN + LSTM with a combination of all features outperforms the other algorithms in classifying the sarcasm in both datasets. The sarcasm classification performance of our dataset and another sarcasm news dataset was compared while applying the above model. © 2024 - IOS Press. All rights reserved.
