Stereo and bi-ocular head-mounted displays (HMDs) require the user to fuse two images into a coherent picture of the threedimensional world. The human visual system performs this task constantly, but when the input images contain both real and graphical depictions, the problem becomes more difficult. A vertical disparity in the graphics causes diplopia for users trying to fuse the real and virtual objects simultaneously. We implement three methods to measure and correct this disparity and assess them with a collection of a single model of optical see-through HMD.

iSonic is an interactive sonification tool for vision impaired users to explore geo-referenced statistical data, such as population or crime rates by geographical regions. Users use a keyboard or a smooth surface touchpad to interact with coordinated map and table views of the data. The integrated use of musical sounds and speech allows users to grasp the overall data trends and to explore the data to get more details. Scenarios of use are described.

The human-computerinteraction community has long been concerned with design. Terms such as 'creativity' and 'innovation' are frequently used when referring to the design process and in this paper we examine what creativity is with respect to design. Design is often a collaborative and, therefore, a social activity. We review the evolution of definitions of creativity, leading to our proposal of a unified definition, we present a theoretical account of why social creativity should in principle be more productive than individual creativity. We explain findings to the contrary in terms of three social influences on creativity and suggest that research in supporting design should focus on mitigating the effects of these social influences on the creativity of design teams. Typically viewed as competing design approaches, this paper illustrates how claims and personas can be used together in user interface design. Our combined approach is exemplified in the development of a notification system called NotiFly. We introduce the idea of claims-based personas as a design tool in a scenario-based approach. Following a discussion of NotiFly's development, we speculate on the theories that led to the system development and how they might impact HCI design process. Based on the findings encountered during the development of NotiFly, we present direction for future work to better systems like Notifly and notification systems in general. Copyright 2005 ACM.
