The integration and usage of uncertain sensor data in workflows is a difficult problem. In this paper we describe these difficulties which result from the combination of very distinct areas. On the one hand, applications from area of measurement engineering manage sensors that capture data and annotate the data with technical meta data. On the other hand, context-aware workflows from the BPM area place high level requirements for the quality of context data that is derived from the sensor data. Between those two areas exists a gap that has to be closed by a context management and mediation system, supporting the handling of Quality of Context (QoC). To achieve this the paper presents an QoC aware architecture based on an extension of the existing Nexus Platform and a first approach for matching the workflow requirements with the sensor annotations.

We demonstrate a system is comprised of a single-hop network structure with ultra-compact sensor nodes densely deployed and operating at non-trivial data rates. The contribution of our research is a light-weight, multi-channel protocol which minimizes the complexities on the sensor nodes while retaining high flexibility and high scalability. The data streams collected by the base stations are transmitted over the Fast Ethernet to the host for real-time data logging. The system keeps gathering data in a network of 100 sensor nodes organized as two frequency groups, and all sensor nodes are deployed within 2 m 2 area.

In an effort to learn more about how testers test code, we observed several testers while they designed tests to check a change which had been made to code. Using a case study methodology, we gathered empirical data from the ‘real world’—professional testers, and actual software products. We found that testers do share some common work patterns. These patterns can be seen in their information gathering, their use of heuristics and their construction of mental models. This work is extremely knowledge intensive, experience appears to have a useful effect. In this paper we will discuss how we collected and analysed our data. Then we will present some of our observations about how the testers gathered information, used heuristics, formed mental models and were affected by their previous experience in the course of designing their test scenarios. Based on these observations we comment on training and tools for testers.

To estimate intracranial pressure (ICP) noninvasively, a data mining framework was proposed in our previous work. In the procedure, the mapping function plays an important role to estimate ICP based on the feature vector extracted from arterial blood pressure (ABP) and flow velocity (FV), which is translated to the estimated errors by the mapping function for each entry in the database. In this paper, the different mapping function solutions, linear least squares (LLS), total least squares(TLS) and standard Tikhonov regularization(STR) are systemically tested to compare the possible effects of different solutions on the non-invasive ICP estimation. The conducted comparison demonstrated that the selection of mapping function solution actually influences the estimation. In our previous studies, STR is a better solution for mapping function. Among the tested three solutions for mapping function in this paper, the STR method still shows to be superior to the methods of LLS and TLS.

Fatigued bills have harmful influence on the daily operation of Automated Teller Machine(ATM). To make the classification of fatigued bills more efficient, the development of an automatic fatigued bill classification method is desirable. We propose a new method to estimate the fatigue level of bill from the feature-selected frequency band acoustic energy pattern of banking machines. By using a supervised self-organizing map (SOM), we effectively estimate the fatigue level using only the feature-selected frequency band acoustic energy pattern. Furthermore, the feature-selected frequency band acoustic energy pattern improves estimation accuracy of fatigue level of bills by adding frequency domain information to acoustic energy pattern. The experimental results with real bill samples shows the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Automatic dynamic resource management (AutoDRM) architecture is a framework to efficiently manage shared resources in the tactical network environments without human operator intervention. The autoDRM architecture was developed to resolve the resource contention issues and to improve the quality of service in the tactical network environments. The information herein describes key components of the autoDRM architecture. An experimental end-to-end network prototype test bed consisting of simulated satellite communications (SATCOM) and an OPNET system-in-the-loop (SITL) scenario was also developed to host the autoDRM system. Experimental results demonstrate improved network performance when AutoDRM is deployed.
