Data poisoning attacks, where adversaries manipulate training data to degrade model performance, are an emerging threat as machine learning becomes widely deployed in sensitive applications. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of data poisoning including attack techniques, adversary incentives, impacts on security and reliability, detection methods, defenses, and key research gaps. We examine label flipping, instance injection, backdoors, and other attack categories that enable malicious outcomes ranging from IP theft to accidents in autonomous systems. Promising detection approaches include statistical tests, robust learning, and forensics. However, significant challenges remain in translating academic defenses like adversarial training and sanitization into practical tools ready for operational use. With safety and trustworthiness at stake, more research on benchmarking evaluations, adaptive attacks, fundamental tradeoffs, and real-world deployment of defenses is urgently needed. Understanding vulnerabilities and developing resilient machine learning pipelines will only grow in importance as data integrity is fundamental to developing safe artificial intelligence. © The Institution of Engineering & Technology 2023.

In the transformative field of mineral processing, the need for innovative technologies to overcome inherent difficulties and a critical shortage of high-quality data is an acute challenge. This study addresses these pressing issues by leveraging advanced spatio-temporal deep learning techniques, specifically Convolutional Long Short-Term Memory (ConvLSTM). Focused on the Zinc flotation circuit at CMG Managem Group in Morocco, our comprehensive approach encompasses meticulous data collection from a real-world industrial setting, rigorous spatial and temporal analyses, practical and accurate data augmentation, and the development of a ConvLSTM model for precise prediction of mineral grades. By capturing the temporal intricacies of froth behavior through video data, we gain insights into mineral concentration fluctuations, a critical aspect of traditional analysis. By offering a comprehensive solution that combines cutting-edge technology, meticulous data analysis, and practical augmentation methods, we aim to elevate not only mineral processing efficiency but also a broader spectrum of resource utilization and sustainable practices. This study offers a promising solution to elevate mineral processing efficiency and accuracy in the face of data limitations. In the original publication, the author has found few errors in the figures 2, 4, 11 and 12 which significantly impact both the paper's quality and the reputation of the journal. These issues undermine the clarity of the methodology and the novelty of the research. 1. Each column represents a different case in the experiment, corresponding to the number of UAVs in both the obstacle-free and obstacle areas. However, in Fig. 2, the first row contains identical subfigures across all columns, while the subfigures in the remaining rows are identical to each other The incorrect Fig. 2 appears as below: (Figure presented.) Collaborative Computing in Non-Terrestrial Networks: A Multi-Time-Scale Deep Reinforcement Learning Approach

Constructing earth-fixed cells with low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites in non-terrestrial networks (NTNs) has been the most promising paradigm to enable global coverage. The limited computing capabilities on LEO satellites however render tackling resource optimization within a short duration a critical challenge. Although the sufficient computing capabilities of the ground infrastructures can be utilized to assist the LEO satellite, different time-scale control cycles and coupling decisions between the space- and ground-segments still obstruct the joint optimization design for computing agents at different segments. To address the above challenges, in this paper, a multi-time-scale deep reinforcement learning (DRL) scheme is developed for achieving the radio resource optimization in NTNs, in which the LEO satellite and user equipment (UE) collaborate with each other to perform individual decision-making tasks with different control cycles. Specifically, the UE updates its policy toward improving value functions of both the satellite and UE, while the LEO satellite only performs finite-step rollout for decision-makings based on the reference decision trajectory provided by the UE. Most importantly, rigorous analysis to guarantee the performance convergence of the proposed scheme is provided. Comprehensive simulations are conducted to justify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme in balancing the transmission performance and computational complexity. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has profoundly changed and will continue to change our lives. AI is being applied in more and more fields and scenarios such as autonomous driving, medical care, media, finance, industrial robots, and internet services. The widespread application of AI and its deep integration with the economy and society have improved efficiency and produced benefits. At the same time, it will inevitably impact the existing social order and raise ethical concerns. Ethical issues, such as privacy leakage, discrimination, unemployment, and security risks, brought about by AI systems have caused great trouble to people. Therefore, AI ethics, which is a field related to the study of ethical issues in AI, has become not only an important research topic in academia, but also an important topic of common concern for individuals, organizations, countries, and society. This article will give a comprehensive overview of this field by summarizing and analyzing the ethical risks and issues raised by AI, ethical guidelines and principles issued by different organizations, approaches for addressing ethical issues in AI, and methods for evaluating the ethics of AI. Additionally, challenges in implementing ethics in AI and some future perspectives are pointed out. We hope our work will provide a systematic and comprehensive overview of AI ethics for researchers and practitioners in this field, especially the beginners of this research discipline. © 2020 IEEE.

WIP: An Engaging Undergraduate Intro to Model Checking in Software Engineering Using TLA+

Background: In this Innovative Practice Work in Progress, we present our initial efforts to integrate formal methods, with a focus on model-checking specifications written in Temporal Logic of Actions (TLA+), into computer science education, targeting undergraduate juniors/seniors and graduate students. Many safety-critical systems and services crucially depend on correct and reliable behavior. Formal methods can play a key role in ensuring correct and safe system behavior, yet remain underutilized in educational and industry contexts. Aims: We aim to (1) qualitatively assess the state of formal methods in computer science programs, (2) construct level-appropriate examples that could be included midway into one’s undergraduate studies, (3) demonstrate how to address successive "failures" through progressively stringent safety and liveness requirements, and (4) establish an ongoing framework for assessing interest and relevance among students. Methods: We detail our pedagogical strategy for embedding TLA+ into an intermediate course on formal methods at our institution. After starting with a refresher on mathematical logic, students specify the rules of simple puzzles in TLA+ and use its included model checker (known as TLC) to find a solution. We gradually escalate to more complex, dynamic, event-driven systems, such as the control logic of a microwave oven, where students will study safety and liveness requirements. We subsequently discuss explicit concurrency, along with thread safety and deadlock avoidance, by modeling bounded counters and buffers. Results: Our initial findings suggest that through careful curricular design and choice of examples and tools, it is possible to inspire and cultivate a new generation of software engineers proficient in formal methods. Conclusions: Our initial efforts suggest that 84% of our students had a positive experience in our formal methods course. Our future plans include a longitudinal analysis within our own institution and

The formal modeling and verification of aircraft takeoff is a challenge because it is a complex safety-critical *** task of aircraft takeoff is distributed amongst various computer-based controllers,however,with the growing malicious threats a secure communication between aircraft and controllers becomes highly *** research serves as a starting point for integration of BB84 quantum protocol with petri nets for secure modeling and verification of takeoff *** integrated model combines the BB84 quantum cryptographic protocol with powerful verification tool support offered by petri *** model certain important properties of BB84,a new variant of petri nets coined as Quantum Nets are proposed by defining their mathematical foundations and overall system dynamics,furthermore,some important system properties are also abstractly *** proposed QuantumNets are then applied for modeling of aircraft takeoff process by defining three quantum nets:namely aircraft,runway controller and gate *** authentication between quantum nets,the use of external places and transitions is demonstrated to describe the encryptiondecryption process of qubits ***,the developed takeoff quantum network is verified through simulation offered by colored petri-net(CPN)***,reachability tree(RT)analysis is also performed to have greater confidence in feasibility and correctness of the proposed aircraft takeoff model through the Quantum Nets.

Model-based Generation of Attack-Fault Trees

Joint safety and security analysis of cyber-physical systems is a necessary step to correctly capture inter-dependencies between these properties. Attack-Fault Trees represent a combination of dynamic Fault Trees and Attack Trees and can be used to model and model-check a holistic view on both safety and security. Manually creating a complete AFT for the whole system is, however, a daunting task. It needs to span multiple abstraction layers, e.g., abstract application architecture and data flow as well as system and library dependencies that are affected by various vulnerabilities. We present an AFT generation tool-chain that facilitates this task using partial Fault and Attack Trees that are either manually created or mined from vulnerability databases. We semi-automatically create two system models that provide the necessary information to automatically combine these partial Fault and Attack Trees into complete AFTs using graph transformation rules. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

Ensemble multifeatured deep learning methodology has emerged as a powerful approach to overcome the limitations of single deep learning models in terms of generalization, robustness, and performance. This survey provides an extended review of ensemble multifeatured deep learning models, and their applications, challenges, and future directions. We explore potential applications of these models across various domains, including computer vision, medical imaging, natural language processing, and speech recognition. By combining the strengths of multiple models and features, ensemble multifeatured deep learning models have demonstrated improved performance and adaptability in diverse problem settings. We also discuss the challenges associated with these models, such as model interpretability, computational complexity, ensemble model selection, adversarial robustness, and personalized and federated learning. This survey highlights recent advancements in addressing these challenges and emphasizes the importance of continued research in tackling these issues to enable widespread adoption of ensemble multifeatured deep learning models. It provides an outlook on future research directions, focusing on the development of new algorithms, frameworks, and hardware architectures that can efficiently handle the large-scale computations required by these models. Moreover, it underlines the need for a better understanding of the trade-offs between model complexity, accuracy, and computational resources to optimize the design and deployment of ensemble multifeatured deep learning models. © 2013 IEEE.

The paper presents investigations concerning the decision rule filtering process controlled by the estimated relevance of available attributes. In the conducted study, two search directions were used, sequential forward selection and sequential backward elimination. The steps of sequential search were governed by three rankings obtained for variables, all related to characteristics of data and rules that can be induced, as follows, (i) a ranking based on the weighting factor referring to the occurrence of attributes in generated decision reducts, (ii) the OneR ranking exploiting short rule properties, and (iii) the proposed ranking defined through the operation of greedy algorithm for rule induction. The three rankings were confronted and compared from the perspective of their usefulness for the selection of rules performed in the two directions and with two strategies for rule selection. The resulting sets of rules were analysed with respect to the properties of the constituent decision rules and from the point of performance for all constructed rule-based classifiers. Substantial experiments were carried out in the stylometric domain, treating the task of authorship attribution as classification. The results obtained indicate that for all three rankings and search paths it was possible to obtain a noticeable reduction of attributes while at least maintaining the power of inducers, at the same time improving characteristics of rule sets. © 2023 Polish Information Processing Society.
