E-textiles for emotion interaction: a scoping review of trends and opportunities

There has been a proliferation of emotion-related interactive textiles in recent years. This research conducted a comprehensive scoping review of the literature on emotion-related interactive textiles design. In total, 75 design studies were identified from their abstracts and analyzed with social network analysis and text mining methods. These studies were categorized into different aims (emotion expression, emotion communication, emotion reflection, emotion regulation, emotional effect, emotional experience, and emotion analysis). This review also analyzed details of prototypes and experimental design, such as textile form, textile function, feedback mechanism, experiment method, evaluation scale, and empirical findings. Then we evaluated these studies based on the relationship of their research aim, textiles, emotion, interaction mechanism, etc. The findings suggest that interactive textiles can aid in emotion presentation, modulation, and creating unique emotional experiences. Interactive textiles, feedback mechanisms, and bodily interaction all serve essential functions and benefit emotional interaction. Last, this review reflected on the critical research directions of emotion-related interactive textiles, including connecting interactive textiles with biofeedback, designing interactive textiles with sensory feedback mechanisms, and increasing bodily interaction for dynamic emotion. Further, this research provided insights into the research gaps, from elaborating on the experiment and exploring the materiality of interactive textiles to concerning privacy and user acceptance. Preemptive Min Max Optimal Cost Based Scheduling for Improving the Load Balancing in Virtualized Cloud Environment

Load balancing and scheduling are essential components of cloud computing that aim to optimize resource allocation and utilization. In a cloud environment, multiple virtual machines and applications compete for shared resources, and efficient load balancing and scheduling mechanisms are crucial for ensuring optimal performance and resource utilization. The prior methodologies attains higher utilization to allocate task due to makspan problem leads more deadlock occurrence and request failures with higher energy consideration. Furthermore, the paper examines the challenges and considerations in load balancing and scheduling, such as dynamic workload variations, heterogeneity of resources, and QoS requirements. To handle this issues, to propose an Efficient Load Balancing Based Predictive Priority-based Preemptive Min max priority Load balancer (PMin-Max LB) to improve the service optimality in Decentralized cloud server. Initially the user request accessibility and task progress is evaluated through Service level Workload Impact score (SLWIS). Then introducing Workload Scaling Job vector estimation is carried by Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). By evaluating the Makespan Instance Scaling Changeover Virtualization (MISCV) task weights are assigned to virtual machine by applying Preemptive Min max priority Load balancer (PMin-Max LB) to reduce the workload to improve the performance. The proposed system improves the impact of load balancing and scheduling on cloud performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness. Finally proposed system attains the potential advancements in load balancing and scheduling techniques improves the computing approach in virtualization process to reduce the workload burned to optimize the heterogeneity and Quality of service. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Environmental sound classification(ESC)involves the process of distinguishing an audio stream associated with numerous environmental *** common aspects such as the framework difference,overlapping of different sound events,and the presence of various sound sources during recording make the ESC task much more complicated and *** research is to propose a deep learning model to improve the recognition rate of environmental sounds and reduce the model training time under limited computation *** this research,the performance of transformer and convolutional neural networks(CNN)are *** audio features,chromagram,Mel-spectrogram,tonnetz,Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients(MFCCs),delta MFCCs,delta-delta MFCCs and spectral contrast,are extracted fromtheUrbanSound8K,ESC-50,and ESC-10,***,this research also employed three data enhancement methods,namely,white noise,pitch tuning,and time stretch to reduce the risk of overfitting issue due to the limited audio *** evaluation of various experiments demonstrates that the best performance was achieved by the proposed transformer model using seven audio features on enhanced *** UrbanSound8K,ESC-50,and ESC-10,the highest attained accuracies are 0.98,0.94,and 0.97 *** experimental results reveal that the proposed technique can achieve the best performance for ESC problems.

The remarkable miniaturization of Internet of Things (IoT)-based systems and the rise of distributed intelligence are promising research paradigms in the design of smart cities. IoT and distributed intelligence are conjoined. On the one hand, IoT provides a digital connection to everyday physical devices, and on the other hand, distributed intelligence allows these connected devices to work together in a distributed environment to solve complex problems through learning and reasoning. In this article, we investigate and report the recent premier advances in distributed intelligence for IoT-based smart cities. We use bibliometric techniques which provide essential insights into many studies to evaluate the literature including publication year, type, and citation status on distributed intelligence and its variations published between 2013 and 2023. We categorize and classify literature by devising a taxonomy based on essential parameters, technologies, approaches, applications, and implications with respect to distributed intelligence. Moreover, we provide recent ongoing advancements in distributed intelligence and IoT such as sustainability, blockchain, 5G technologies, AI, edge computing expansion and IoT expansion. We also highlight some of the use cases which include traffic management, energy management, waste management, public safety, and healthcare. We provide core layers and services for implementing distributed intelligence in IoT-based smart cities and present several research challenges and issues. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

Inductive Lottery Ticket Learning for Graph Neural Networks

Graph neural networks (GNNs) have gained increasing popularity, while usually suffering from unaffordable computations for real-world large-scale applications. Hence, pruning GNNs is of great need but largely unexplored. The recent work Unified GNN Sparsification (UGS) studies lottery ticket learning for GNNs, aiming to find a subset of model parameters and graph structures that can best maintain the GNN performance. However, it is tailed for the transductive setting, failing to generalize to unseen graphs, which are common in inductive tasks like graph classification. In this work, we propose a simple and effective learning paradigm, Inductive Co-Pruning of GNNs (ICPG), to endow graph lottery tickets with inductive pruning capacity. To prune the input graphs, we design a predictive model to generate importance scores for each edge based on the input. To prune the model parameters, it views the weight’s magnitude as their importance scores. Then we design an iterative co-pruning strategy to trim the graph edges and GNN weights based on their importance scores. Although it might be strikingly simple, ICPG surpasses the existing pruning method and can be universally applicable in both inductive and transductive learning settings. On 10 graph-classification and two node-classification benchmarks, ICPG achieves the same performance level with 14.26%–43.12% sparsity for graphs and 48.80%–91.41% sparsity for the GNN model.

Breast cancer poses a significant threat to women's health, being a leading cause of cancer-related mortality among female population. In recent years, machine learning has emerged as a promising approach in medical field, particularly in detection and classification tasks. However, existing algorithms often exhibit suboptimal accuracy, necessitating improved methodologies. This research presents a novel approach using a Modified Support Vector Machine (MSVM) for breast cancer classification into benign and malignant categories. Leveraging the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Dataset (WBCD), preprocessing techniques are applied to enhance data quality. Principle Component Analysis (PCA) reduces dimensionality, while linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) extracts discriminative features crucial for classification. The proposed MSVM classifier achieves exceptional performance, with a classification accuracy of 99.42%, outperforming other existing methods such as Deep Convolutional Neural Networks and Fuzzy Rule-based Systems. These results highlight the efficacy of the MSVM approach in accurately distinguishing between benign and malignant breast cancer cases, showcasing its potential as a reliable tool for medical image analysis and cancer diagnosis. © 2024 IEEE.

Lower back pain is one of the most common medical problems in the world and it is experienced by a huge percentage of people *** to its ability to produce a detailed view of the soft tissues,including the spinal cord,nerves,intervertebral discs,and vertebrae,Magnetic Resonance Imaging is thought to be the most effective method for imaging the *** semantic segmentation of vertebrae plays a major role in the diagnostic process of lumbar *** is difficult to semantically partition the vertebrae in Magnetic Resonance Images from the surrounding variety of tissues,including muscles,ligaments,and intervertebral discs.U-Net is a powerful deep-learning architecture to handle the challenges of medical image analysis tasks and achieves high segmentation *** work proposes a modified U-Net architecture namely MU-Net,consisting of the Meijering convolutional layer that incorporates the Meijering filter to perform the semantic segmentation of lumbar vertebrae L1 to L5 and sacral vertebra ***-colour mask images were generated and used as ground truth for training the *** work has been carried out on 1312 images expanded from T1-weighted mid-sagittal MRI images of 515 patients in the Lumbar Spine MRI Dataset publicly available from Mendeley *** proposed MU-Net model for the semantic segmentation of the lumbar vertebrae gives better performance with 98.79%of pixel accuracy(PA),98.66%of dice similarity coefficient(DSC),97.36%of Jaccard coefficient,and 92.55%mean Intersection over Union(mean IoU)metrics using the mentioned dataset.

The Internet of Medical Things(IoMT)is an emerging technology that combines the Internet of Things(IoT)into the healthcare sector,which brings remarkable benefits to facilitate remote patient monitoring and reduce treatment *** IoMT devices become more scalable,Smart Healthcare Systems(SHS)have become increasingly vulnerable to *** Detection Systems(IDS)play a crucial role in maintaining network *** IDS monitors systems or networks for suspicious activities or potential threats,safeguarding internal *** paper presents the development of an IDS based on deep learning techniques utilizing benchmark *** propose a multilayer perceptron-based framework for intrusion detection within the smart healthcare *** primary objective of our work is to protect smart healthcare devices and networks from malicious attacks and security *** employ the NSL-KDD and UNSW-NB15 intrusion detection datasets to evaluate our proposed security *** proposed framework achieved an accuracy of 95.0674%,surpassing that of comparable deep learning models in smart healthcare while also reducing the false positive *** results indicate the feasibility of using a multilayer perceptron,achieving superior performance against cybersecurity threats in the smart healthcare domain.
