Abnormal event detection in video surveillance is critical for security, traffic management, and industrial monitoring applications. This paper introduces an innovative methodology for anomaly detection in video data, encompassing three primary stages: preprocessing, feature learning, and anomaly detection. We employ background subtraction and noise reduction during preprocessing to refine the data. The feature-learning stage involves training an LSTM autoencoder to capture the essential features of normal video sequences. For anomaly detection, we map video data to a lower-dimensional space (latent code) and compare it against the distribution of codes from normal sequences. We determine regularity scores and identify local minima points exceeding a specified threshold while scrutinizing shadows between adjacent maxima to confirm and pinpoint anomalies. When tested on the CUHK Avenue and UMN datasets, our methodology demonstrated performance with AUCs of 93.8% and 94.1%, respectively, outperforming several baseline models. Our results show the high precision of our method that can detect anomalies, highlighting its potential advantages that it can achieve for enhancing systems of surveillance. © The Author(s) 2025.

Multi-scale detail enhancement method of 2D animation image based on Retinex algorithm

In order to solve the problems of low accuracy and long time cost in image multiscale detail enhancement, a method of 2D animation image multiscale detail enhancement based on Retinex algorithm is proposed. Firstly, multi-scale detail pixels are segmented by weighted undirected graph method, and the segmentation results are optimised with the help of edge contour and texture feature information. Secondly, the noise value in detail pixels is obtained and removed by Gaussian decomposition, and the colour vector value in pixel chromaticity space is obtained. Finally, the illumination component is estimated with the help of Gaussian convolution function, and the enhancement model based on Retinex algorithm is constructed to achieve detail enhancement. The test results show that the proposed method can improve the detail enhancement accuracy, with the enhancement accuracy up to 98%, and the enhancement time is shortened. Hyperparameter Optimization for Convolutional Neural Networks using the Salp Swarm Algorithm

Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have exceptionally performed across various computer vision tasks. However, their effectiveness depends heavily on the careful selection of hyperparameters. Optimizing these hyperparameters can be challenging and time-consuming, especially when working with large datasets and complex network architectures. In response, we propose a novel approach for hyperparameter optimization in CNNs using the Salp Swarm Algorithm (SSA). Based on the natural behavior of mollusks, SSA mimics the collective intelligence that governs feeding and navigation. Taking advantage of SSA's unique properties, our research thoroughly explores the hyperparameter space. This exploration aims to identify the algorithm that maximizes CNNs performance. This paper presents the architecture of the SSA-based framework for hyperparameter optimization and compares it to other established optimization techniques, such as Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Genetic Algorithm (GA). We also present experimental results using the MNIST and fashion MNIST datasets, achieving an impressive classification accuracy of 99.46% for MNIST and 94.53% for fashion-MNIST. This case study not only contributes to the fields of deep learning and hyperparameter optimization by demonstrating the effectiveness of SSA in optimizing CNNs, but it also provides benefits to researchers and practitioners who are looking for optimal hyperparameter configurations for CNNs in a variety of computer vision applications. We also evaluate the scalability and robustness of our proposed method in the context of different CNNs structures. The insights we gained highlight SSA's potential for addressing challenges related to hyperparameter optimization. © 2023 Slovene Society Informatika. All rights reserved.

Efficient resource management within Internet of Things(IoT)environments remains a pressing challenge due to the increasing number of devices and their diverse *** study introduces a neural network-based model that uses Long-Short-Term Memory(LSTM)to optimize resource allocation under dynam-ically changing *** to monitor the workload on individual IoT nodes,the model incorporates long-term data dependencies,enabling adaptive resource distribution in real *** training process utilizes Min-Max normalization and grid search for hyperparameter tuning,ensuring high resource utilization and consistent *** simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method,outperforming the state-of-the-art approaches,including Dynamic and Efficient Enhanced Load-Balancing(DEELB),Optimized Scheduling and Collaborative Active Resource-management(OSCAR),Convolutional Neural Network with Monarch Butterfly Optimization(CNN-MBO),and Autonomic Workload Prediction and Resource Allocation for Fog(AWPR-FOG).For example,in scenarios with low system utilization,the model achieved a resource utilization efficiency of 95%while maintaining a latency of just 15 ms,significantly exceeding the performance of comparative methods.

Comprehensive study on object detection for security and surveillance: A concise review

In recent years, object detection (OD) has become essential in computer vision for identifying and localizing objects in digital images, prompting various sectors to adopt this technology. However, increased reliance on OD has also revealed vulnerabilities to attacks, highlighting the need for effective detection methods to mitigate potential risks. Therefore, the present paper primarily surveys existing studies on OD in the context of security and surveillance, highlighting its significance in these critical areas. The discussion includes an examination of conventional techniques such as HOG, DPM, and the Viola‒Jones detector. While these traditional methods have laid the groundwork for object detection, they are often considered inadequate because of their time-consuming and labor-intensive nature. Consequently, the focus shifts to DL (deep learning)-based OD models such as YOLO (you only look once), single shot detector (SSD), and Fast R-CNN. Among these, the present survey paper emphasizes YOLO models for their speed and efficiency, as they utilize a unified architecture for both region proposal and classification, making them particularly suitable for real-time applications. However, the distinguishing feature of the proposed survey lies in its comprehensive coverage, which not only encompasses YOLO models but also integrates an analysis of generative AI (GenAI) models and metaheuristic approaches. This multifaceted exploration allows for a richer understanding of the current landscape in computer vision and AI, highlighting the synergies and potential applications that arise from combining these diverse methodologies. Furthermore, the paper explores a wide range of applications for OD in real-time security and surveillance settings, illustrating its effectiveness in addressing contemporary security challenges. A novel methodology for offline English handwritten character recognition using ELBP-based sequential (CNN)

Handwritten character recognition falls under the domain of image classification, which has been under research for years. But still, specific gaps need to be highlighted as offline handwritten character recognition (OHCR) with the limitation of the unstructured hierarchy of character classification. However, the idea is to make the machine recognize handwritten human characters. The language focused on in this research paper is English, using offline handwritten character recognition for identifying English characters. There are many publicly available datasets, of which EMNIST is the most challenging. The key idea of this research paper is to recommend a deep learning-based ELBP-CNN method to help recognize English characters. This research paper proposes a deep learning CovNet with feature extraction and novel local binary pattern-based approaches, LBP (AND, OR), that is tested and compared with renowned pre-trained models using transfer learning. These parametric settings address multiple issues and are finalized after experimentation. The same hyperparametric settings were used for all the models under test and E-Character, with the same data augmentation settings. The proposed model, named the E-Character recognizer, produced 87.31% accuracy. It was better than most of the tested pre-trained models and other proposed methods by other researchers. This research paper further highlighted some problems, like misclassification due to the similar structure of characters. © The Author(s) 2024.

Manhattan-based k-member clustering and enhanced rabbit optimization algorithm for k-anonymization in social network

Online social networks are becoming more and more popular, according to recent trends. The user's primary concern is the secure preservation of their data and privacy. A well-known method for preventing individual identity in publicly accessible datasets is K-anonymization. Existing anonymity techniques' primary drawback is that they're susceptible to similarity and attribute disclosure attacks. Furthermore, a large amount of data has been lost in the given database. To address this limitation, the proposed model integrated an anonymizing algorithm with Manhattan-based k-member clustering and an enhanced rabbit optimization algorithm (MKCAEROA). The Manhattan distance-based k member (MKCA) clustering algorithm is employed in this case to cluster the initial database. The resulting clusters are then further optimized, and the original database is made anonymous, using the enhanced rabbit optimization algorithm (EROA). In the suggested model, EROA is included to satisfy the specified anonymity constraints while concurrently minimizing the clustering error rate and the generated information loss. When compared to existing approaches, the experimental results demonstrate that the suggested method provides the highest clustering accuracy with the least amount of information loss. Hepatitis is an infection that affects the liver through contaminated foods or blood transfusions,and it has many types,from normal to *** is diagnosed through many blood tests and factors;Artificial Intelligence(AI)techniques have played an important role in early diagnosis and help physicians make *** study evaluated the performance of Machine Learning(ML)algorithms on the hepatitis data *** dataset contains missing values that have been processed and outliers *** dataset was counterbalanced by the Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique(SMOTE).The features of the data set were processed in two ways:first,the application of the Recursive Feature Elimination(RFE)algorithm to arrange the percentage of contribution of each feature to the diagnosis of hepatitis,then selection of important features using the t-distributed Stochastic Neighbor Embedding(t-SNE)and Principal Component Analysis(PCA)***,the SelectKBest function was applied to give scores for each attribute,followed by the t-SNE and PCA ***,the classification algorithms K-Nearest Neighbors(KNN),Support Vector Machine(SVM),Artificial Neural Network(ANN),Decision Tree(DT),and Random Forest(RF)were fed by the dataset after processing the features in different methods are RFE with t-SNE and PCA and SelectKBest with t-SNE and PCA).All algorithms yielded promising results for diagnosing hepatitis data *** RF with RFE and PCA methods achieved accuracy,Precision,Recall,and AUC of 97.18%,96.72%,97.29%,and 94.2%,respectively,during the training *** the testing phase,it reached accuracy,Precision,Recall,and AUC by 96.31%,95.23%,97.11%,and 92.67%,respectively.
