Multimodal data processing has recently become popular due to technological advances and easier access to real video, audio, images, or text data. This data type is often processed using deep neural networks associated with high time and computational complexity. The present work addresses the problem of classifying a multimodal MM-IMDb dataset, representing the problem of recognizing a movie genre based on a poster and a brief description of the plot. For experiments, 20 binary subsets were separated, from which features were then extracted. Features from the text were obtained using the tf-idf method, while the posters were reduced to a single color. computer experiments on the resulting tabular data were conducted separately on both modalities, as in the concatenated feature space. The results confirmed that classical approaches to feature extraction could allow satisfactory quality classification of multimodal data to be obtained even when using relatively simple pattern recognition algorithms. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

When compared to different types of malignant tumors, pancreatic malignancy is the 12th widespread tumor disease among humans globally. Pancreatic cancer can be identified at the earlier stages using microarray gene analysis. The objective of this work is to classify the gene samples as normal and tumoral through the usage of Particle Swarm Optimization technique along with the supervised machine learning classifiers. A variance-based feature selection is employed to select the most appropriate features and the selected features are transformed using particle swarm optimization to improve the classification performance. Four different machine learning supervised algorithms are realized as classification techniques. When these four vanilla classifiers are considered, the random forest algorithm performs relatively well with balanced accuracy score of 87.5%. This score is improved to 94.4% through the usage of the proposed technique. In addition, the proposed technique enhances the prediction of the other two classifiers as well. © 2023 IEEE.

Industrial Cyber-Physical (ICP) systems are integration of computation and physical processes to help achieve operational excellence. As sensors and actuators compose the openly deployed ICP systems and are often susceptible to interference, it puts forward higher requirements on reliability. Reliable coverage ensures sensors acquiring information and therefore coverage reliability of sensor network is studied from various perspectives. However, most existing reliability evaluation methods ignore the belief degree of coverage which influences the reliability to an extent. To evaluate the coverage reliability from the perspective of belief degree, we firstly define Confident Information Coverage Belief Reliability (CICBR) based on the Confident Information Coverage (CIC) model and D-S evidence theory, which comprehensively considers the coverage rate, interference from the environment, and belief degree of the result. Next, to evaluate the belief degree more reasonably, an Evidence-discount-based basic probability assignment generating method is proposed based on D-S theory to describe the interference in the belief degree. Moreover, a belief evaluation algorithm is proposed to calculate the belief degree of the coverage. Finally, an evidence-Discount-based Confident Information Coverage Belief Reliability Evaluation (D-CICBRE) algorithm is proposed to evaluate CICBR. The simulation result indicates that the proposed method can obtain higher and more reasonable reliability. Therefore, the proposed D-CICBRE algorithm can be used to evaluate the reliability of ICP systems more accurately and reasonably. © 2023 IEEE.

Medical internet of things leads to revolutionary improvements in medical services, also known as smart healthcare. With the big healthcare data, data mining and machine learning can assist wellness management and intelligent diagnosis, and achieve the P4-medicine. However, healthcare data has high sparsity and heterogeneity. In this paper, we propose a Heterogeneous Transferring Prediction System (HTPS). Feature engineering mechanism transforms the dataset into sparse and dense feature matrices, and autoencoders in the embedding networks not only embed features but also transfer knowledge from heterogeneous datasets. Experimental results show that the proposed HTPS outperforms the benchmark systems on various prediction tasks and datasets, and ablation studies present the effectiveness of each designed mechanism. Experimental results demonstrate the negative impact of heterogeneous data on benchmark systems and the high transferability of the proposed HTPS. © 2023 IEEE.

Tumor type classification and candidate cancer-specific biomarkers discovery via semi-supervised learning

Identifying cancer-related differentially expressed genes provides significant information for diagnosing tumors, predicting prognoses, and effective treatments. Recently, deep learning methods have been used to perform gene differential expression analysis using microarray-based high-throughput gene profiling and have achieved good results. In this study, we proposed a new robust multiple-datasetsbased semi-supervised learning model, MSSL, to perform tumor type classification and candidate cancer-specific biomarkers discovery across multiple tumor types and multiple datasets, which addressed the following long-lasting obstacles:(1) the data volume of the existing single dataset is not enough to fully exert the advantages of deep learning;(2) a large number of datasets from different research institutions cannot be effectively used due to inconsistent internal variances and low quality;(3) relatively uncommon cancers have limited effects on deep learning methods. In our article, we applied MSSL to The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA) and the Gene Expression Comprehensive Database(GEO) pan-cancer normalized-level3 RNA-seq data and got 97.6% final classification accuracy, which had a significant performance leap compared with previous approaches. Finally, we got the ranking of the importance of the corresponding genes for each cancer type based on classification results and validated that the top genes selected in this way were biologically meaningful for corresponding tumors and some of them had been used as biomarkers, which showed the efficacy of our method.

Drought is an environmental and economic problem. Sustainable ecosystems, water resources, food security, and ecosystem sustainability. Machine all are severely affected by drought. Due to the increasing frequency and severity of droughts caused by climate change. Effective drought modeling is crucial for early warning systems and risk mitigation. Recent advances in machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques have been developed as potential drought modeling tools, which offer accurate and reliable drought detection. This review paper summarizes the drought modeling(Drought Prediction, Drought Detection and Drought Forecasting) approaches. This paper focuses on three main aspect. 1) The selection of the region for this study, for this study South Asia(SA) is selected as region of interest (ROI) that offer accurate drought modeling, providing policymakers and decision-makers with insightful information. The geographical scope of this study is the region of South Asia. This region is selected because of its heavy reliance on agriculture. 2) This paper focuses on the current and future trends, challenges, and advances of and vulnerability to droughts. The review offers a thorough grasp of how drought conditions are evaluated by gathering and analyzing the most important drought indicators and metrics specific to South Asia. The paper explores the current state-of-the-art in ML and DL for drought modeling. 3) This review encapsulates the indicator and metrics (Complex Machine learning and deep learning models) for drought modeling which are most relevant to the SA region. This study sum up as most common challenges in drought modeling are, highlighting current challenges such as incomplete and inconsistent datasets, lack of explainable and interpretable models, and unavailability of data for model uncertainty analysis. Gene expression analysis is an efficient modality to detect breast cancer. But analysis of the gene expression data is a complicated task due to the involvement of large number of numerical data for each subject. This research work focuses on the development of computerized diagnosis systems for analyzing the gene expression data and classifying the subjects as either normal or breast adenocarcinoma. Sparse autoencoder is used for dimensionality reduction and Elephant Herding Optimization is used for transforming the features. Four different supervised classifiers namely support vector machine, random forest classifier, decision trees, and naive bayes classifier are examined for classification task. Among them, random forest provides the superior balanced accuracy of 86% while it was further enhanced to 92% with the help of sparse autoencoders and elephant herding optimization algorithm. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Privacy is an essential topic in (social) robotics and becomes even more important when considering interactive and autonomous robots within the domestic environment. Robots will collect a lot of personal and sensitive information about the users and their environment. Thereby, privacy does consider the topic of (cyber-)security and the protection of information against misuse by involved service providers. So far, the main focus relies on theoretical concepts to propose privacy principles for robots. This article provides a privacy framework as a feasible approach to consider security and privacy issues as a basis. Thereby, the proposed privacy framework is put in the context of a user-centered design approach to highlight the correlation between the design process steps and the steps of the privacy framework. Furthermore, this article introduces feasible privacy methodologies for privacy-enhancing development to simplify the risk assessment and meet the privacy principles. Even though user participation plays an essential role in robot development, this is not the focus of this article. Bitcoin was released in 2008 as an electronic peer-to-peer payment system. The aim was to enable financial transactions in an anonymous manner between participating parties. However, Bitcoin is considered a pseudonymous network rather than anonymous, as the identity of the address owner is unknown, but every transaction is permanently stored on the Bitcoin blockchain and can be tracked by anyone. The structure of the blockchain, its transactions, and the Bitcoin network make it possible to deanonymize pseudonyms through various methods such as flow analysis, heuristics, and network traffic observations. Once a connection is established between pseudonyms used in the Bitcoin network and the real world, all previous transactions can be attributed to that identity. In 2021, Taproot was introduced to further increase privacy within the Bitcoin Network by introducing a new address format which will allow transactions to be more indistinguishable from one another. In this paper, we analyze current methods for deanonymizing Bitcoin transactions to understand which parts of the Bitcoin protocol they exploit. In addition, we look at the changes introduced by Taproot and determine the extent to which these changes affect the methods and what assumptions must be made for these methods to remain applicable.
