Service-oriented architectures provide integration of interoperability for independent and loosely coupled services. Web services and the associated new standards such as WSRF are frequently used to realise such service-oriented architectures. In such systems, autonomic principles of self-configuration, self-optimisation, self-healing and self- adapting are desirable to ease management and improve robustness. In this paper we focus on the extension of the self management and autonomic behaviour of a WSRF container connected by a structured P2P overlay network to monitor and rectify its QoS to satisfy its SIAs. The SLA plays an important role during two distinct phases in the life-cycle of a WSRF container. Firstly during service deployment when services are assigned to containers in such a way as to minimise the threat of SLA violations, and secondly during maintenance when violations are detected and services are migrated to other containers to preserve QoS. In addition, as the architecture has been designed and built using standardised modern technologies and with high levels of transparency, conventional Web services can be deployed with the addition of a SLA specification.

Information security, including integrity and privacy, is an important concern among today's computer users due to increased connectivity. Despite a number of secure algorithms that have been proposed, the trade-offs made between security and performance demands further research toward improvement. In bulk data transfer, especially in large messages, the secured processing time takes much longer than non-secured processes. This is due to crypto operations, which include symmetric encryption operations and hashing functions. In the current bulk data transfer phase in secure socket layer (SSL), the server or the client firstly calculates the message authentication code (MAC) of the data using keyed-hash message authentication code (HMAC) operation, and then performs the symmetric encryption on the data together with the MAC. This paper proposes a new algorithm which provides a significant performance gain in bulk data transfer without compromising the security. The proposed algorithm performs the encryption of the data and the calculation of the MAC in parallel. The server calculates the MAC of the data at the same time as the encryption process of the data. Once the calculation of the MAC is completed, only then the MAC will be encrypted. The algorithm was simulated in two processors with one processor performing the MAC calculation and the other on encrypting the data, simultaneously. The communication between the two processors was done via message passing interface (MPI). Based on the performance simulations, the new parallel algorithm gained speedup of 1.74 with 85% efficiency over the current (sequential) algorithm.

Risk management is essential regarding the maintenance of a company's business processes. The ability of companies to prevent risks as well as to respond quickly and appropriately to emerging threats is increasingly becoming a crucial success factor. In order to cope with these challenges, companies constitute business process and risk management approaches. Traditional business process management focuses on the economical optimization of processes. Apart from that, risk management provides the design of robust business processes to strengthen the resilience of daily business. Both domains aim at improving business performance, but they approach this goal from a different view on the understanding of improvement. Due to the fact that optimizing recommendations of business process management and risk management may be contradictory, we propose one unified method which integrates both points of views to enable risk-aware business process management and optimization. In this paper, we introduce the ROPE (Risk-Oriented Process Evaluation) methodology which combines capabilities of business process management, risk management and business continuity management to support the holistic evaluation of business processes not only regarding their economic efficiency but also their robustness and security. The basis for this combination is the refinement of business process activities into four atomic elements (Conditions, Actions, Resources and Environments) and a process-oriented way of modeling threats, preventive and reactive counter measures as well as recovery measures. In this paper we demonstrate how risk-aware business process management and simulation can be enabled through the application of the ROPE methodology.

The success of modern VoIP-based applications has demonstrated how VoIP technologies are rather mature for replacing current telephony systems and for creating new and flexible modes of communication. There are several applications and services that can benefit from such technologies: among them the e- learning is one important candidate. Future and present scenarios of mobile learning applications and the design of new collaboration models in teachers/students interactions are possible fields of application of VoIP technologies. For example, students may be enabled to join a lecture via cell phone wherever the IP network allows linking to video and audio conferencing servers. In this paper the integration of audio and video conferencing tools in a distance education environment is considered and a prototyping implementation is described. Particular attention is paid to currently available open-source projects and tools: the EifFE-L (Environment for freedom in E-Learning) Learning Management System in conjunction with the MjSIP project for VoIP functionalities have been used.

K-means clustering is a powerful and frequently used technique in data mining. However, privacy breaching is a serious problem if the k-means clustering is used without any security treatment, while privacy is a real concern in many practical applications. Recently, four privacy-preserving solutions based on cryptography have been proposed by different researchers. Unfortunately none of these four schemes can achieve both security and completeness with good efficiency. In this paper, we present a new scheme to overcome the problems occurred previously. Our scheme deals with data standardization in order to make the result more reasonable. We show that our scheme is secure and complete with good efficiency.

Since Multi-Agent systems (MAS) are composed of sets of (inter-)acting autonomous and pro-active agents, they provide suitable concepts to the construction of self- organizing processes, promising robust and adaptive system behaviors. An examination of current software-engineering approaches to self-organizing MAS identified a lack of requirement engineering approaches, established in general- purpose engineering methodologies. As self-organizing dynamics are typically utilized to enforce continuous MAS adjustment we discuss how expectations on MAS adaptivity can be expressed and validated, considering both the intended system configurations as well as the system dynamics that steer system (re-)configuration. We argue that self-organizing MAS development typically intends recurring pattern of system dynamics and exemplify their specification and validation, transferring requirements engineering practices to self-organizing MAS development.

We introduce a novel agent-based reconfiguring concept for futures network-on-chip (NoC) systems. The necessary properties to increase architecture level fault tolerance are introduced. The system control is modeled as multi-level agent hierarchy that is able to increase application fault-tolerance and performance with autonomous reactions of agents. The agent technology adds a system level intelligence level to the traditional NoC system design. The architecture and functions of this system are described on conceptual level. communication and reconfiguring data flows are presented as study cases. Principles of reconfiguration of a NoC on faulty environment are demonstrated and simulated. Probability of reconfiguration success is measured with different latency requirements and amount of redundancy by Monte Carlo simulations. The effect of network topology in reconfiguration of a faulty mesh was also under research in the simulations.

distributed antenna systems (DAS) have gained wide spread interest as an efficient means to expand system capacity, decrease transmission power and mitigate inter cell interference. In this paper, a distributed MIMO-OFDM system is studied over composite Rayleigh-lognormal multipath fading channels. Two kinds of information-theoretic capacity measures - ergodic capacity and outage capacity are evaluated. We also investigate the impact of spatial fading correlation on the capacity. From simulation results, we find that the distributed MIMO-OFDM scheme can bring a certain degree of capacity improvement because of macroscopic shadow fading diversity gain. Moreover, we show that, due to the decrease in spatial fading correlation, the distributed MIMO-OFDM scheme can provide capacity improvement compared with the conventional centralized MIMO-OFDM scheme.

A novel approach to on-line classification based on fuzzy rules with an open/evolving structure is introduced in this paper. This classifier can start `from scratch', learning and adapting to the new data samples or from an initial rule-based classifier that can be updated based on the new information contained in the new samples. It is suitable for real-time applications such as classification streaming data, robotic applications, e.g., target and landmark recognition, real-time machine health monitoring and prognostics, fault detection and diagnostics, etc. Each prototype is a data sample that represents the focal point of a fuzzy rule per class and is selected based on the data density by an incremental and evolving procedure. This approach is transparent, linguistically interpretable, and applicable to both fully unsupervised and partially supervised learning. It has been validated by two well known benchmark problems and by real-life data in a parallel paper. The contributions of this paper are: i) introduction of the concept of evolving (open structure) classification (eClass) of streaming data; ii) experiments with well known benchmark classification problems (Iris and wine reproduction data sets)
