The article presents an MDA approach for upgrading e-health applications, based on QVTo mapping which is defined by OMG as the language used to model the transformation. Its purpose is to transform abstract models into concrete ones so that the reader can understand how the complete transformation takes place. The work focuses on the modernization of eHealth applications by applying MDE principles, techniques and tools. To do so, a comparative study was conducted to see the difference between eHealth 2.0 and eHealth 3.0 applications. EHealth 2.0 applications are characterized by the use of social web, wikis, blogs. As for the 3.0 applications, they rely on artificial intelligence and semantic web in addition to web 2.0 properties. So, a development process is proposed that takes as input two PIM models, derived from both UML and IFML standards, and as output the two PSM models that respect ODM and HTML5 respectively. © 2023 IEEE.

The proposed work suggests a novel approach for the cooperation of geographically scattered individuals and the blending of different points of view. This work ensures that the center on heterogeneous networks in which nodes support both long-range low-rate Radio Frequency (RF) interfaces (like cellular) and short-range high-rate RF interfaces (such as IEEE802.11) that communicate over urban Rayleigh fading channels. These interfaces are used to connect the devices. The interfaces are what are used to link the various gadgets. This research work proposes and evaluates a wide variety of hierarchically distributed cooperation strategies that can function despite resource restrictions such as limited short-range RF bandwidth. These strategies are contained within the confines of this paradigm, which serves as the framework for proposed work. Post Soft-Demodulation Combining, often referred to as PSDC, and Priority Maximum Ratio Combining are the two approaches that come highly recommended by our team (PMRC). This work provides evidence that using the offered methods increases throughput, reliability, and signal-to-noise ratio. Moreover, this study found that PMRC and PSDC have the ability to improve throughput performance by more than an order of magnitude across a wide range of communication circumstances. © 2023 IEEE.

For better protection of distributed systems, two well-known techniques are: checkpointing and rollback recovery. While failure protection is often considered a separate issue, it is crucial for establishing better secure distributed systems. This article is dedicated to the proposal of a new checkpointing algorithm for saving a consistent-transaction state in distributed databases ensuring that database management systems are able, after a failure, to recover the state of the database. The proposed communication-induced algorithm does not hamper the normal transaction processing and saves a global consistent-transaction state that records only the fully completed transactions. Analysis and experimental results of our proposal show that the proposed scheme saves a minimum number of forced checkpoints and has some performance gains compared to the alternative approaches. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The treatment of patients suffering from chronic diseases is a difficult problem to be tackled. Its complexity mainly originates from the following sources: the patient-specific response to the prescribed therapy, the impact of the interplay between disease and therapy on the quality of life of the patient and relatives, and the economic costs incurred by the healthcare system. Recently, there has been considerable interest in developing, studying, and applying artificial intelligence methods to diagnosis, prognosis and treatment personalization. This paper combines two techniques from artificial intelligence, namely fuzzy logic and reinforcement learning, to develop optimal dynamic treatment for patients suffering from a chronic disease. In this paper, we focus on cancer as a chronic disease and leverage a biologically validated fuzzy logic model from the literature. Different problem settings, of increasing complexity, are taken into account, presented and analyzed. Results of an extensive numerical experimental plan confirm the potential of non-myopic decision-making when treating chronic disease patients. © 2024 CEUR-WS. All rights reserved.

New Mathematical Modelling on BMR and Weight Prediction for Ghanaians

Background: Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the quantum of calories needed for optimum body function when at rest. This has long been an indicator of one’s health and the basis for determining the metabolic age of individuals. Many scholastic projects have led to the establishment of mathematical models and inventions that measure the BMR and other body composition parameters. However, existing computations have limitations as they do not offer accurate results for Ghanaians. Aim: The purpose of the study was to model BMR metrics that are most suitable for Ghanaians and to investigate the effect of caloric difference on weight, Lean Body Mass (LBM) and % fat composition that can be implemented with Information Technology. Research Methods and Procedures: This was an experimental study that adopted a quantitative approach. BMR and body composition were measured in a sample of 242 Ghanaian adults (141 males and 101 females) from 19 to 30 years of age. Body composition was measured using bioelectrical impendence analysis (BIA) in all participants. Each participant was under study for 7 days. A simple linear regression model was used to examine associations between BMR/calorie intake and total body weight and LBM. Results: There was a significant statistical relation between BMR and LBM and between BMR and weight of both men and women. Equations for BMR and weight were established for males and females. Furthermore, caloric intake differences affected changes in total weight as well as differences in % fat composition. Caloric intake however did not affect the difference in LBM. Conclusion: Caloric difference had an impact on total body weight and Lean Body Mass. The model derived from the study predicts weight change and BMR of Ghanaians from 19 to 30 years of age. It is termed the Health and Age Monitoring System (HAMS).

Renewable energy is one of the essential elements of the social and economic development in any civilized *** use of fossil fuels and the non-renewable form of energy has many adverse effects on the most of *** the high potential of renewable energy sources in Yemen and the absence of similar studies in the region,this study aimed to examine the wind energy potential of Hodeidah-Yemen Republic by analyzing wind characteristics and assessment,determining the available power density,and calculate the wind energy extracted at different *** average wind speed of Hodeidah was obtained only for the data currently available for the five years 2005–2009(due to the current economic and the political situation in Yemen).The results show that the average wind speed in the five years is(25.2 W/m2 at 10 m,93.9 W/m2 at 30 m,and 173.5 W/m2 at 50 m).The average yearly wind power density(25.2 W/m2 at 10 m,93.9 W/m2 at 30 m and 173.5 W/m2 at 50m),and the average yearly energy density(220.8 KWh/m2/year at 10 m,822.6 KWh/m2/year at 30 m and 1519.9 KWh/m2/year at 50 m).This research is a preliminary assessment of the potential of wind energy in Hodeidah,which provides useful information for developing wind energy and an efficient wind *** to the International Wind Energy Rating criteria,the region of Hodeidah falls under‘Class 2’and is classified as‘Marginal’for most of the year.

The increasing availability of online data has meant that data-driven models have been applied to more and more tasks in recent years. In some domains and/or applications, such data must be protected before they are used. Hence, one of the problems only partially addressed in the literature is to determine how the performance of Machine Learning models is affected by data protection. More important, the explainability of the results of such models as a consequence of data protection has been even less investigated to date. In this paper, we refer to this very problem by considering non-perturbative data protection, and by studying the explainability of supervised models applied to the data classification task.

The expansion of renewable energies requires implementing Smart Grid Services (SGSs) in the distribution grid. Analytical verification of the SGSs’ Quality of Service (QoS) requirements is crucial for reliable operation. This paper proposes a two-step approach: a constraint satisfaction problem (CSP) considers network infrastructure and resource allocations to find candidates’ solutions. Then, the solutions are evaluated using Network Calculus (NC) to calculate delay bounds at the worst-case and compare them to the requirements. If necessary, alternative solutions are generated. The NC framework is adjustable and considers different service priorities by implementing scheduling policies such as strict priority, weighted fair queuing, weighted round robin, and deficit round robin. In the end, the best-performing parameters are derived for a sample network and the results manifest that the NC framework can be used to analyze random communication networks.

Heuristic algorithms are used to solve complex computational problems quickly in various computer applications. Such algorithms use heuristic functions that rank the search alternatives instead of a full enumeration of possible variants. The algorithm selects, at each iteration, an alternative with the best value for the heuristics. In this paper, we investigate the complex computational problem of finding highly nonlinear substitutions (S-boxes) in the space of 8-bit permutations. The generation of S-boxes is an important field of research, since nonlinear substitutions are widely used in various cryptographic applications. For instance, S-boxes in symmetric ciphers are responsible for cryptographic strength to linear, differential, algebraic, and other types of cryptanalysis. We propose new heuristics in the form of a cost function, calculated with the Walsh-Hadamard transform. We use the Hill Climbing Algorithm to find highly nonlinear substitutions. Our experiments demonstrate that the new heuristics give good results – it takes about 80,000 iterations of the algorithm to generate 8-bit S-boxes with a nonlinearity of 104. For the optimized parameters, the number of iterations of the algorithm is comparable to the best known results, which confirms the significance and value of the research. © The Author(s).

The modern digital age demands the skills to be able to assess information. In the current world, access to information and knowledge is abundant from different sources. Indeed, high-quality data are much needed in education and professional development, as the quality and accuracy of information directly influence the process of learning and decision-making. The study aims to investigate the perceptions of computer science students at the University of Dunaújváros related to the credibility of diverse information sources. Within a questionnaire, on a voluntary answer basis, 68 students took part, 59 males and nine females. This work is aimed at assessing the degree to which the surveyed students evaluate information sources based on a five-point Likert scale. The data shows that students find print books and textbooks as the most reliable sources;social media are the least reliable. The study also supports the importance of source credibility evaluation, for which lateral reading techniques and AI-based news source credibility identification systems can be helpful. These findings suggest the necessity of bettering the educational approaches to foster better source criticism skills in the students, especially for online content and social media. The study generally contributes to understanding the information society and helps prepare students to obtain and use reliable and accurate information in their future careers. Using AI-based tools and systems can then further support these educational efforts with robust mechanisms to evaluate information credibility in an ever more complex digital landscape. © 2024 IEEE.
