Broadcasting stands as a vital function within wireless sensor networks (WSNs), where nodes disseminate messages throughout the entire network, radiating in all possible directions. Our focus lies on the issue of three-dimensional broadcasting, involving n sensors/robots positioned uniformly across a three-dimensional space. We propose an exponentially fast hybrid collaborative broadcasting algorithm in three-dimensional space "growing ball" through successive propagation steps. We study the effect of various parameters such as the density of the growing ball (ρ), distance (d), the energy emitted by node (E emit ), and ϵ used by the collaborative broadcast. Our approach is based on the idea of dividing the 3D space into two halves that reduce mathematical intricacy. The number of nodes N k in the k th step of the growing ball is the factor of (1+ϵ) k implies the exponential fast broadcast.

This paper deals with the design of a new structure of an Ultra High Frequency (UHF) dipole antenna for RFID TAG. To design such antenna, we have to optimize such structure by taking into account the input impedance matching by reaching an input impedance of the antenna which is equal to the conjugate one of the microchips, the implementation of this type of antenna on an object with a metallic surface, influences the efficiency of these parameters. Knowing that the manufacturing cost of an antenna is one of the most important factors that must be taken into consideration during the design and realization phase. To achieve this goal, this paper deals with the design of a new and a simple Ultra High Frequency RFID tag antenna formed from a folded spiral dipole printed on a FR4 substrate having a dielectric constant ϵr=4.4, and loss tangent δ=0.02, the antenna structure is matched to an 'ALIEN HIGGS 4' UHF microchip in strap packaging, it can be mounted on a metallic surface, and it should be noted that the structure does not include metal vias or short-circuiting stubs. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper presents the design and implementation of a Smart Cane for the visually impaired individuals, incorporating several sensors and features to improve their mobility and safety. The device includes an ultrasonic sensor for obstacle detection, an MPU-6050 device for detecting falls and tilts, a GPS module for navigation, an RTC module for medicine reminders, and a fitness tracking module for monitoring health parameters. Additionally, a Bluetooth headset with a microphone is provided to communicate with the voice assistant in noisy areas. The Smart Cane triggers a buzzer for help and sends a notification to the caretaker in case of a fall or crash. The device is powered by a LIPO battery and is designed to improve the quality of life of visually impaired individuals by providing them with enhanced mobility and safety features. © 2024 IEEE.

Environmental monitoring has become more crucial as a result of the recent climatic changes, making it a hot issue and a very active study field. This field uses wireless sensor networks and remote sensing to collect data about the environment. Recent developments, including the Internet of Things (IoT) concept, the cloud computing paradigm, and cyber-physical systems, assist the administration and transmission of enormous volumes of data about changes in environmental parameters. The current work presents three different IoT-based wireless sensors for monitoring the environment and the surrounding area: one uses Wi-Fi User Datagram Protocol (UDP)-based communication, one uses Wi-Fi and Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), and a third one uses Bluetooth Smart. The ability to capture data at distant places and see it from any device with an Internet connection is a feature shared by all of the systems that have been discussed. This makes it possible to monitor vast geographic regions. These systems' specific development details are discussed, along with their main distinctions and affinities. The three created systems were evaluated for their suitability for IoT-based solutions, taking into consideration their energy independence, usability, solution complexity, and Internet connectivity capability. © 2023 IEEE.

Lecture-free teaching and learning is an instructional method that omits the traditional lecture and replaces it with self-paced learning activities in or outside the classroom. While previous research showed evidence for the effectiveness of this method, the impact of gender on students' performance and perceptions remained unexplored. This study attempts to close this gap by analyzing learning and self-report data from two lecture-free courses in a computer engineering program. Our findings, drawn from learning analytics, reveal that the performance of female students in the learning activities is comparable to that of their male counterparts, even though males complete the activities more quickly, on average. Regarding perceptions, female students report slightly lower or higher levels of interest and challenge, respectively. Moreover, the gender effect can be moderated by the complexity of the learning activity. These results suggest that engineering programs employing lecture-free instruction should consider allocating more time for female learners. Additionally, the learning activities should be designed in a way that enhances females' interest and motivation and lowers their perceived level of challenge. Further research is needed to understand the sources of interest and challenges in lecture-free learning activities and to examine the correlations between interest, challenge, and performance.

In this paper, we study the problem of efficient dynamic routing in elastic optical networks. We propose a novel resource allocation strategy that benefits from the bandwidth reservation in advance based on the analysis of the traffic prediction. We also propose a mechanism for the strategy's partial implementation to provide its high flexibility and the possibility to control both the efficiency and processing time. Next, we perform numerical experiments on representative European network topology. Their aim is the selection of the strategy’s beneficial configuration as well as its performance evaluation. The results prove its high efficiency – the approach reduces the bandwidth blocking probability up to 0.85%, corresponding to 16.925 Tbps of more served traffic (compared to the allocation without traffic-aware bandwidth reservation).

The Internet of Things (IoT) involves complex, interconnected systems and devices that depend on context-sharing platforms for interoperability and information exchange. These platforms are, therefore, critical components of real-world IoT deployments, making their security essential to ensure the resilience and reliability of these "systems of systems." In this paper, we take the first steps toward systematically and comprehensively addressing the security of IoT context-sharing platforms. We propose a framework for threat modelling and security analysis of a generic IoT context-sharing solution, employing the MITRE ATT&CK framework. Through an evaluation of various industry-funded projects and academic research, we identify significant security challenges in the design of IoT context-sharing platforms. Our threat modelling provides an in-depth analysis of the techniques and sub-techniques adversaries may use to exploit these systems, offering valuable insights for future research aimed at developing resilient solutions. Additionally, we have developed an open-source threat analysis tool that incorporates our detailed threat modelling, which can be used to evaluate and enhance the security of existing context-sharing platforms. Understanding facial expressions is key to successful communication. It's like decoding a secret language that helps us know if someone is happy, sad, angry, surprised, or something else altogether. Harnessing facial emotion recognition (FER) in machines holds the potential to revolutionize human-computer interaction, improve customer service experiences and provide invaluable support in medical diagnosis. Machines can comprehend human's needs more effectively by reading the emotions from their facial expression and therefore this results in a more natural conversation between them and the machine. Various machine and deep learning methodologies have been implemented for FER. In this research work, the authors propose the state-of-the-art YOLO (You Only Look Once) based deep learning classifier for FER. The YOLO algorithm is a single-shot approach that efficiently classifies objects in a single pass. It achieves this by using a single neural network to predict bounding boxes and target class probabilities by utilizing the entire image as input. YOLOv8 is a recent iteration of the YOLO object detection algorithm is popular for its speed and accuracy which offers improvements over prior versions, making it a suitable choice for real-time intended task of FER. With the proposed classifier, the authors achieved test accuracy of 72.56% on the FER-2013 dataset in a seven-class FER task. © 2024 IEEE.

In process CPS systems, highly accurate modeling of the production system is essential for optimal control, fault diagnosis, and flexible manufacturing. Traditional data-driven modeling of industrial processes focuses on predicting future trends based on variable periodicity and trends, often neglecting the impact of control variables. This paper proposes a new approach to improve CPS accuracy, particularly for systems heavily influenced by controlled variables. Firstly, CPS modeling is redefined as a time series imputation problem, introducing exogenous variables via a sequence modeling algorithm based on a state space model to enhance forecasting accuracy. Secondly, sequence inputs are encoded in patches, improving the model's ability to process local sequence information. The proposed method is evaluated on a real deep cone thickener underflow concentration forecasting task and compared with state-of-The-Art time series forecasting methods, demonstrating superior performance. This study not only provides a more accurate model for CPS but also offers a framework for integrating control variables into predictive modeling. © 2024 IEEE.
