The development and optimisation of energy-efficient communication protocols that are specifically adapted for Internet of Things (IoT) devices is the focus of this research. The proliferation of interoperable bias has given rise to the converse girding energy consumption, which has come a consummate concern in the contemporary period. The primary end of this bid is to probe innovative approaches and protocols with the capacity to reduce the energy consumption of Internet of Effects(IoT) connections. As a result, the bias will retain the capability to attain an extended functional lifetime while coincidently producing a lowered environmental footmark. The presented protocols aim to achieve a result that balances the utilisation of energy coffers with the conservation of dependable communication. A thorough examination of the presently employed protocols, coupled with the perpetration of sophisticated optimisation ways, will be the styles employed to achieve this thing. Theprovides a significant donation to the development and prosecution of communication protocols that effectively address the unique energy constraints encountered by Internet of effects(10T)- connected ecosystems. This contributes to the enhancement of effectiveness and sustainability in the world of networked bias, which is expanding at an accelerated rate.

In the last three years, a new partner has emerged for teachers and educators in the field of education. The mushrooming of applications based on large language models has greatly shaped the educational development fields of the present era. The use of various AI applications has become commonplace among students and teachers alike. Many questions are being raised by researchers in this field. What does the rapid development of AI applications bring to the field of pedagogy? Should the products of such applications be compared with human performance? The form presented in this thesis seeks to answer similar questions. What is the impact of frequent use of these applications on the literacy level of individuals? In which areas do students tend to use these applications? The results indicate that half of the students believe their literacy levels will decrease with the mass emergence of AI applications, while 36% feel it will not change. However, 88 % of students have already dealt with AI-based applications, with 64 % using them several times or more, suggesting a high level of integration into their educational processes.

During the COVID19 epidemic, people of all ages from all walks of life around the world have become inevitably familiar with and almost dependent on the digital tools of the age and the opportunities they offer. A change had to take place very quickly that was unprecedented. This process has also affected education. During the time of the reading lock-in, there was a proliferation of digital curricular content. The second time around, online education came to the fore, thanks to less or well-functioning online platforms, and has since become part of everyday teaching. What is the effectiveness and usefulness of sharing knowledge in this way? Is literacy still needed at all? Can online and hybrid (a controlled mix of face-to-face and online) education replace the well-established contact and face-to-face education? The study show that the respondents believe that online education has had an impact on literacy and that it is perceived to have a positive impact. The results indicate that online education has a positive impact on the literacy levels of students, as it facilitates knowledge acquisition and enhances digital literacy skills.

With rapid urbanization, smart cities have become essential for enhancing urban management and sustainability by integrating technological, social, and institutional innovations. Among these innovations, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications and electric vehicles (EVs) play a critical role in reducing carbon emissions and optimizing urban mobility. To address the existing gaps in holistic V2X integration, this paper presents a novel eco-assistive fog-based traffic management system (EAFTMS) that leverages a four-tier architecture (IoT, fog, cloud, and application) for scalable, real-time traffic optimization. A key innovation of this system is the AI-driven point exchange system (PES), designed to incentivize sustainable behaviors such as reducing unnecessary vehicle usage and promoting green lifestyle choices. Unlike conventional models, the proposed framework incorporates real-time behavioral monitoring, rewards-based sustainability programs, and V2X-enabled dynamic traffic control. Empirical validation demonstrates that EAFTMS outperforms existing models, including support vector regression (SVR), achieving a 30% reduction in latency, a 40% improvement in response time, a 25% increase in traffic flow efficiency, and a 35% reduction in CO2 emissions. These results highlight the framework’s potential to set new standards in intelligent green cities by offering scalable, practical, and environmentally impactful solutions to urban transportation challenges. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

LeiBi@COLIEE 2022: Aggregating Tuned Lexical Models with a Cluster-driven BERT-based Model for Case Law Retrieval

This paper summarizes our approaches submitted to the case law retrieval task in the Competition on Legal Information Extraction/Entailment (COLIEE) 2022. Our methodology consists of four steps;in detail, given a legal case as a query, we reformulate it by extracting various meaningful sentences or n-grams. Then, we utilize the pre-processed query case to retrieve an initial set of possible relevant legal cases, which we further re-rank. Lastly, we aggregate the relevance scores obtained by the first stage and the re-ranking models to improve retrieval effectiveness. In each step of our methodology, we explore various well-known and novel methods. In particular, to reformulate the query cases aiming to make them shorter, we extract unigrams using three different statistical methods: KLI, PLM, IDF-r, as well as models that leverage embeddings (e.g., KeyBERT). Moreover, we investigate if automatic summarization using Longformer-Encoder-Decoder (LED) can produce an effective query representation for this retrieval task. Furthermore, we propose a novel re-ranking cluster-driven approach, which leverages Sentence-BERT [21] models that are pre-tuned on large amounts of data for embedding sentences from query and candidate documents. Finally, we employ a linear aggregation method to combine the relevance scores obtained by traditional IR models and neural-based models, aiming to incorporate the semantic understanding of neural models and the statistically measured topical relevance. Expert Finding in Legal Community Question Answering

Expert finding has been well-studied in community question answering (QA) systems in various domains. However, none of these studies addresses expert finding in the legal domain, where the goal is for citizens to find lawyers based on their expertise. In the legal domain, there is a large knowledge gap between the experts and the searchers, and the content on the legal QA websites consist of a combination formal and informal communication. In this paper, we propose methods for generating query-dependent textual profiles for lawyers covering several aspects including sentiment, comments, and recency. We combine query-dependent profiles with existing expert finding methods. Our experiments are conducted on a novel dataset gathered from an online legal QA service. We discovered that taking into account different lawyer profile aspects improves the best baseline model. We make our dataset publicly available for future work. © 2022, CC BY.

With the rapid advancement of technology and its easy accessibility, online activity has become an integral part of everyday human life. Expressing opinions, providing feedback, and sharing feelings by commenting on various platforms, including social media, education, business, entertainment, and sports, has become a common phenomenon. Effectively analyzing these comments to uncover latent intentions holds immense value in making strategic decisions across various domains. However, several challenges hinder the process of sentiment analysis including the lexical diversity exhibited in comments, the presence of long dependencies within the text, encountering unknown symbols and words, and dealing with imbalanced datasets. Moreover, existing sentiment analysis tasks mostly leveraged sequential models to encode the long dependent texts and it requires longer execution time as it processes the text sequentially. In contrast, the Transformer requires less execution time due to its parallel processing nature. In this work, we introduce a novel hybrid deep learning model, RoBERTa-BiLSTM, which combines the Robustly Optimized BERT Pretraining Approach (RoBERTa) with Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) networks. RoBERTa is utilized to generate meaningful word embedding vectors, while BiLSTM effectively captures the contextual semantics of long-dependent texts. The RoBERTa-BiLSTM hybrid model leverages the strengths of both sequential and Transformer models to enhance performance in sentiment analysis. We conducted experiments using datasets from IMDb, Twitter US Airline, and Sentiment140 to evaluate the proposed model against existing state-of-the-art methods. Our experimental findings demonstrate that the RoBERTa-BiLSTM model surpasses baseline models (e.g., BERT, RoBERTa-base, RoBERTa-GRU, and RoBERTa-LSTM), achieving accuracies of 80.74%, 92.36%, and 82.25% on the Twitter US Airline, IMDb, and Sentiment140 datasets, respectively. Skin cancer's increasing incidence rates necessitate advanced diagnostic tools. This research uses MobileNet architecture to develop an enhanced system for skin cancer detection. MobileNet's efficient CNN architecture, combined with Keras for model lifecycle management and TensorFlow for real-time inference, forms the foundation of this study. Using 10,015 dermatoscopic pictures from seven different classifications of skin cancer in the HAM10000 dataset, the methodology includes several key stages: image preprocessing to correct illumination and adjust resolution, data augmentation to balance the dataset, and model training using Transfer Learning. The MobileNet model was trained over 50 epochs with a comprehensive architecture incorporating multiple specialized layers. By combining large-scale data analysis and adaptive learning, this methodology demonstrates The revolutionary possibilities of AI and ML in improving skin cancer diagnostics and public health outcomes. This study applies interpretable artificial intelligence (XAI) techniques in an unprecedented way to improve transparency in online Arabic handwriting recognition models. By using the LIME (Local Model-Independent Explanations) technique to analyze and interpret a convolutional neural network (CNN) model trained on the ADAB dataset. LIME highlights the key features that the model relies on in handwriting recognition. This research demonstrates the effectiveness of the LIME technique in uncovering the factors that the model relies on in an unconventional way and provides detailed explanations of how the decisions are made, which enhances transparency and increases users’ confidence in these models. The results provide useful information for improving the performance of handwriting recognition systems and a beginning for applying XAI techniques on a larger scale, including using more complex datasets and additional interpretation techniques to gain a deeper understanding of how models work with different handwriting styles. This study paves the way for the use of interpretable techniques in the field of Arabic handwriting recognition.

Background: Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the most common neuropsychiatric disorder in schoolchildren. ADHD diagnoses are generally made based on criteria from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition. The diagnosis is made clinically based on observation and information provided by parents and teachers, which is highly subjective and can lead to disparate results. Considering that hyperactivity is one of the main symptoms of ADHD, the inaccuracy of ADHD diagnosis based on subjective criteria necessitates the identification of a method to objectively diagnose ADHD. Methods: In this study, a medical chair containing a piezoelectric material was applied to objectively analyze movements of patients with ADHD, which were compared with those of patients without ADHD. This study enrolled 62 patients—31 patients with ADHD and 31 patients without ADHD. During the clinical evaluation, participants’ movements were recorded by the piezoelectric material for analysis. The variance, zero-crossing rate, and high energy rate of movements were subsequently analyzed. Results: The results revealed that the variance, zero-crossing rate, and high energy rate were significantly higher in patients with ADHD than in those without ADHD. Classification performance was excellent in both groups, with the area under the curve as high as 98.00%. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that the use of a smart chair equipped with piezoelectric material is an objective and potentially useful method for supporting the diagnosis of ADHD. © 2022 Taiwan Pediatric Association
