Monitoring pregnancy woman health is continuos and vital process. Approximately 830 women die a day from pregnancy-related causes in India. In developing countries, still more number of maternal death is happening and the medical information is not centralized for sharing. In rural areas, there is a lack of adequate facilities to the pregnant women for their routine checkup and this ends up with a higher infant and maternal death rate. The resulting health issue is a challenge to rural community people. With the recent developments in the IoT based technology, pregnant women are continuously monitored through suitable sensors. The sensor data are streamed to the centralized server through wireless technology for monitoring and performing data analytics. The proposed work utilizes an acceleration wireless sensor to observe the live movement of the fetus, along with scanned ultrasound images. Other vital parameters including movement sign, pulse, pressure, SPO2, sleep, count the amount of kicks of the unborn baby, and measuring the ECG pattern of the pregnant women. The goal of the proposed work is to effectively monitor the health condition of pregnant woman through sensors and if any abnormality is being observed, it will send an early warning message to the medical professional. In the proposed architecture, a massive amount of unstructured sensor data is collected through microcontrollers and the data are streamed to Apache Kafka and stored in MongoDB. Results shows that, a complete pregnant woman monitoring system is developed and data analytics can be performed, which enable the medical professional and other recipient to monitor pregnant women's activities from anywhere at any time. In the case of emergency, an email / SMS notifications send to the doctor and other recipients.

Water is an essential and crucial resource in the world. Without water, there will not be any organisms, flora, and fauna on the planet. Water is most important for living organisms like humans, plants, and animals. Earth is covered by 71% of water bodies and 29% is covered by land. The human body is made up of nearly 70% of water. There is no life when there is no water. So, people should not waste water and use it accordingly. For domestic use, people store the water in their home tank which flows from the corporate tank or in a bore well. Either of the two there will be a water flow when the home tank is filled which leads to water wastage and there will also be a wastage of water when there is a leakage of water or theft of water during the flow of water to the home tank. To control and avoid the overflow of water, a smart water flow monitoring system and theft detection are implemented by using the Internet of Things (IoT). Sensors, NodeMCU, Solenoid valve, and Global System for Mobile communication (GSM) are used to implement this system. When there is a flow above the threshold value and leakage or theft, the cloud will send the alert message to the user. © 2022 IEEE

Indoor positioning systems (IPS) are gaining higher attention recently due to the increased demand for indoor location aware services. Visible light communication (VLC) is a promising technology to use for IPS. In particular, received signal strength (RSS) based visible light positioning (VLP) systems are gaining high attention due to their low complexity and cost, in addition to higher positioning accuracy compared to their radio frequency (RF) counterparts. One of the main challenges in RSS based VLP systems is encountered when the receiver (the target) is tilted and not placed in parallel with the transmitters (the anchors). RSS based trilateration techniques require a computationally expensive and time-consuming process to solve the nonlinear problem of tilted receivers. Fingerprint based systems generally provide high positioning accuracy with short positioning time, and maybe used to circumvent the need to deal with the high complexity associated with tilted receivers. However, the design of a fingerprinting VLP system for tilted receiver has not been explored yet as far as receivers with a single photodetector (PD) are concerned. In this work, a fingerprint based VLP system for tilted receivers using artificial neural networks (ANN) is proposed, where different types of input features for training the positioning algorithm are studied. We show that using the components of the normal vector to the PD's surface in addition to RSS values provides an excellent positioning accuracy with an average positioning error of 25.41 cm and a remarkably low average positioning time less than $\mathbf{5} \boldsymbol{\mu} \boldsymbol{s}$ . In addition, important research directions for future work are discussed.

In this paper, a new n-MOSFET layout with multi-finger Z gate is proposed to reduce the total ionizing dose (TID) effect. In addition to the proposed layout, multi-finger single gate layout is also simulated using Sentaurus TCAD in 3D. Firstly, drain current - gate voltage curves of both layouts are compared in order to verify the radiation hardening ability of the proposed layout. Secondly, we compare TID responses by extracting threshold voltages and leakage currents from both layouts. Thirdly, the finger number is investigated for both layouts because it is an important factor for multi-finger layout. The results have indicated that the finger number significantly affects the multi-finger single gate layout, whereas the proposed multi-finger Z gate layout is relatively little affected by the finger number in radiation environment. © 2022 IEEE.

Over the past six decades, the computing systems field has experienced significant transformations, profoundly impacting society with transformational developments, such as the Internet and the commodification of computing. Underpinned by technological advancements, computer systems, far from being static, have been continuously evolving and adapting to cover multifaceted societal niches. This has led to new paradigms such as cloud, fog, edge computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT), which offer fresh economic and creative opportunities. Nevertheless, this rapid change poses complex research challenges, especially in maximizing potential and enhancing functionality. As such, to maintain an economical level of performance that meets ever-tighter requirements, one must understand the drivers of new model emergence and expansion, and how contemporary challenges differ from past ones. To that end, this article investigates and assesses the factors influencing the evolution of computing systems, covering established systems and architectures as well as newer developments, such as serverless computing, quantum computing, and on-device AI on edge devices. Trends emerge when one traces technological trajectory, which includes the rapid obsolescence of frameworks due to business and technical constraints, a move towards specialized systems and models, and varying approaches to centralized and decentralized control. This comprehensive review of modern computing systems looks ahead to the future of research in the field, highlighting key challenges and emerging trends, and underscoring their importance in cost-effectively driving technological progress. © 2024, CC BY.

Context: Most software companies strive to have high-performing teams and mitigate withdrawal behaviors like being present but unproductive. In this context, psychological safety and developers’ perceived impact are suggested as potential drivers of voice and silence behaviors. However, understanding these social aspects of software development entails the incorporation of social science theories . Objective: This study aims to empirically demonstrate whether such a new theory about voice and silence at work actually applies to the software development context. Method: We plan to use a survey questionnaire design. This study will collect data from software development teams and analyze the result using structural equation modeling (SEM) technique. Gaussian Process regression is a kernel method successfully adopted in many real-life applications. Recently, there is a growing interest on extending this method to non-Euclidean input spaces, like the one considered in this paper, consisting of probability measures. Although a Positive Definite kernel can be defined by using a suitable distance – the Wasserstein distance – the common procedure for learning the Gaussian Process model can fail due to numerical issues, arising earlier and more frequently than in the case of an Euclidean input space and, as demonstrated in this paper, that cannot be avoided by adding artificial noise (nugget effect) as usually done. This paper uncovers the main reason of these issues, that is a non-stationarity relationship between the Wasserstein-based squared exponential kernel and its Euclidean-based counterpart. As a relevant result, the Gaussian Process model is learned by assuming the input space as Euclidean and then an algebraic transformation, based on the uncovered relation, is used to transform it into a non-stationary and Wasserstein-based Gaussian Process model over probability measures. This algebraic transformation is simpler than log-exp maps used in the case of data belonging to Riemannian manifolds and recently extended to consider the pseudo-Riemannian structure of an input space equipped with the Wasserstein distance. We investigate the carrier transport characteristics of perforated graphene layer (PGL) composed of arrays of interdigital coplanar graphene microribbons (GMRs) connected by graphene nanoribbon (GNR) bridges. We analyze their operation at room-temperature. Under an applied bias voltage, two-dimensional electron and hole systems (2DES and 2DHS) form in adjacent GMRs. The terminal current in these PGL structures is primarily governed by thermionic transport across the GNR bridges. As electrons and holes traverse the GNRs, they induce heating in the 2DES and 2DHS, creating a positive feedback loop between carrier heating and thermionic emission. This phenomenon, characterized as hot-carrier thermal breakdown, can give rise to S-shaped inter-GMR current-voltage characteristics. These unique transport properties make PGLs promising candidates for fast, voltage-controlled room-temperature switches and electromagnetic radiation detectors. © 2025, CC BY.

This paper investigates the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted communication network with multiple downlink users (DLUs) and uplink users (ULUs) in the presence of multiple malicious jammers. To guarantee fairness among the users and their uplink and downlink communication throughput, we aim to maximize the minimum average throughput by jointly optimizing the scheduling of ULUs/DLUs, three dimensional (3D) trajectory and the UAV transmission power. Although the optimization problem is computationally intractable due to its non-convexity, we develop an iterative algorithm based on the block coordinate descend approach and the successive convex approximation technique to solve the problem efficiently. Numerical outcomes show that our proposed algorithm can improve throughput significantly over several benchmark schemes.
