This paper describes problems of improving security cameras' video footage for forensic investigation. When processing records, one encounters problems with low resolution, poor lighting, or excessive distance of a key object in an image or video. Using the Amped FIVE Professional tool, forensic scientists create videos and analyze and process the record itself using various filters. Record quality demands a choice of video filters. The use and selection of filters show the improvement of the record itself to the level to which useful information can be obtained in this case of vehicle license plates. The presented roadmap can be used as the base for further video forensic research. © 2023 IEEE.

In Search of the Successful Interpolation: On the Role of Sharpness in CLIP Generalization

Zero-shot models like CLIP are often fine-tuned on a target dataset to improve its accuracy further, but this can compromise out-of-distribution (OOD) robustness. Robust Fine-Tuning (RFT) [Wortsman et al., 2022c], which interpolates between the zero-shot and fine-tuned models, has been proposed to address this issue. However, understanding when RFT actually improves OOD error remains limited. In this work, we empirically investigate the robustness of RFT in CLIP models, with a focus on the sharpness of the CLIP model during interpolation. First, we demonstrate that while sharpness may not serve as a reliable indicator for predicting the generalization of modern architectures like CLIP on OOD data, this challenges the conventional belief in the generalization benefits of flat minima in foundation models. However, by examining the role of the straggler layer phenomenon, we show that, unlike overall sharpness, the layer-wise sharpness of straggler layers can reliably capture the generalization performance of interpolated CLIP models on OOD data. Our extensive experiments reveal that layer-wise sharpness correlates with generalization in OOD accuracy for RFT. Furthermore, we demonstrate that by inducing sparsity in the straggler layers, we can mitigate the failure mode phenomenon in RFT. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work to study the role of sharpness in the success of interpolation in the weight space of CLIP foundation models. Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is rapidly driving a new phase of artificial intelligence revolution, marked by various applications such as ChatGPT, Sora and DeepSeek. With powerful capabilities in content generation, personalization and user interaction, GenAI can drive significant enhancements in various mobile services to satisfy individual user preferences. Meanwhile, mobile services offer substantial support for accessibility, functionality and intelligence of GenAI applications. However, current research on integrating GenAI and mobile services remains nascent, lacking necessary theoretical and technical support. In this survey, we break down a new vision to guide research on integrating GenAI and mobile services, aiming to improve 6G intelligence levels and enable 6G mobile networks to support the integration of GenAI and mobile services effectively. We begin by examining the necessity of integrating GenAI with 6G mobile services and exploring potential learning architectures of GenAI models within mobile networks. Next, we analyze potential solutions from two perspectives: how 6G mobile networks empower GenAI and how GenAI enables mobile services. We subsequently explore a promising use case, along with essential features and techniques, to facilitate the integration of GenAI and mobile services. Finally, we discuss future research directions, aiming at realizing intelligent 6G networks. © 2015 IEEE.

Describing Nonstationary Data Streams in Frequency Domain

Concept drift is among the primary challenges faced by the data stream processing methods. The drift detection strategies, designed to counteract the negative consequences of such changes, often rely on analyzing the problem metafeatures. This work presents the Frequency Filtering Metadescriptor – a tool for characterizing the data stream that searches for the informative frequency components visible in the sample’s feature vector. The frequencies are filtered according to their variance across all available data batches. The presented solution is capable of generating a metadescription of the data stream, separating chunks into groups describing specific concepts on its basis, and visualizing the frequencies in the original spatial domain. The experimental analysis compared the proposed solution with two state-of-the-art strategies and with the pca baseline in the post-hoc concept identification task. The research is followed by the identification of concepts in the real-world data streams. The generalization in the frequency domain adapted in the proposed solution allows to capture the complex feature dependencies as a reduced number of frequency components, while maintaining the semantic meaning of data. © 2025, CC BY-NC-SA.

Practical applications of artificial intelligence increasingly often have to deal with the streaming properties of real data, which, considering the time factor, are subject to phenomena such as periodicity and more or less chaotic degeneration – resulting directly in the concept drifts. The modern concept drift detectors almost always assume immediate access to labels, which, due to their cost, limited availability, and possible delay, has been shown to be unrealistic. This work proposes an unsupervised Parallel Activations Drift Detector, utilizing the outputs of an untrained neural network, presenting its key design elements, intuitions about processing properties, and a pool of computer experiments demonstrating its competitiveness with state-of-the-art methods. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.

Wastewater treatment plants in Coimbatore South are under pressure from rapid urbanization, inadequate infrastructure, and industrial pollution, leading to environmental and public health concerns. This study aimed to identify suitable locations for wastewater treatment plants using a combination of machine learning, remote sensing, and GIS-based multicriteria decision analysis (MCDA). Several datasets were analysed, with the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) assigning weights to factors such as slope (18.51) and elevation (31.39), which were found to be crucial in site selection. The study classified the suitability of sites into five categories, with the western region being the most favourable due to its low elevation (147 to 200 m), gentle slopes (0–3%), and substantial land availability (approximately 309.00 sq. km). Overall, the site suitability analysis revealed that 14.48% (110.2 sq. km) of the area falls within "Very High Favourable Zones," while 11.21% (85.3 sq. km) is categorized as "High Favourable Zones." Moderate and low favourable zones account for 9.63% (73.3 sq. km) and 24.04% (182.9 sq. km), respectively. The remaining 40.57% (308.7 sq. km) is considered "Very Low Favourable Zones." These results can guide urban planning decisions, highlighting the importance of factors such as land availability, population growth, wastewater volume, and flood vulnerability. Integrating GIS technology with decision-making processes enhances the strategic placement of urban utilities, ensuring long-term sustainability for Coimbatore South's wastewater management. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

In a variety of medical applications, electrocardiogram (ECG) records are essential for the identification of cardiovascular disorders. Cardiovascular issues such cardiac arrhythmias and coronary heart disease (CHD) are among the most prevalent and can result in cardiac arrest or sudden cardiac death. This study employs ECG signal preprocessing and feature extraction to identify cardiac arrhythmias and evaluate CHD risk. This research stresses the use of a Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier for cardiac arrhythmia identification after ECG signal preprocessing. The preprocessed ECG signal is then subjected to arrhythmic beat classification to find anomalies. Extracted R-peaks from the ECG signal are divided into normal and arrhythmic risk subjects using the SVM classification-based approach for abnormality identification. When compared to other similar classifiers, the K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) classifier offers the highest classification accuracy of 97.5%. © 2023 IEEE.

Virtual Reality headsets enable users to explore the environment by performing self-induced movements. The retinal velocity produced by such motion reduces the visual system's ability to resolve fine detail. We measured the impact of self-induced head rotations on the ability to detect quality changes of a realistic 3D model in an immersive virtual reality environment. We varied the Level of Detail (LOD) as a function of rotational head velocity with different degrees of severity. Using a psychophysical method, we asked 17 participants to identify which of the two presented intervals contained the higher quality model under two different maximum velocity conditions. After fitting psychometric functions to data relating the percentage of correct responses to the aggressiveness of LOD manipulations, we identified the threshold severity for which participants could reliably (75%) detect the lower LOD model. Participants accepted an approximately four-fold LOD reduction even in the low maximum velocity condition without a significant impact on perceived quality, suggesting that there is considerable potential for optimisation when users are moving (increased range of perceptual uncertainty). Moreover, LOD could be degraded significantly more (around 84%) in the maximum head velocity condition, suggesting these effects are indeed speed-dependent. © 2023 Authors.
