The Reed-Solomon (RS) codes, proposed in 1960 by Irving Reed and Gustav Solomon as a subset of error-correcting codes, have many current applications. The most significant of which are data recovery in storage systems, including hard drives, minidiscs, CDs, DVDs, Google's GFS, BigTable, and RAID 6, as well as in communication systems such as DSL, WiMAX, DVB, ATSC, and satellite communications. Additionally, RS codes are used as Bar codes in management and advertising systems, such as PDF-417, MaxiCode, Datamatrix, QR Code, and Aztec Code. Nowadays, RS codes over Galois Fields GF(2m) with base 2 are commonly used in these applications, with the GF(28) field being the most widely used. This allows all 256 values of a byte to be represented as a polynomial with 8 binary coefficients over GF(28). Considering RS codes as cyclic codes in GF(2m) fields, as well as the validity of mathematical dependencies in arbitrary field GF(pm), is a motivation to verify and generalize the idea of generating RS codes in a field with base other prime than 2. As a result, the paper derives the specific features of the construction of Reed-Solomon codes by considering them as a family of codes over any field GF(pm) whose base is a prime p other than 2. The paper also discusses the unique properties of basic arithmetic operations in the arbitrary field GF(pm), which arise from the non-uniqueness of the inverse elements a and -a in a field with base other than 2. © 2024 Zhaneta Savova, Rosen Bogdanov.

In neurosurgery to remove brain tumors, DICOM data, a medical imaging standard, is generated preoperatively using CT and MRI. This data is used for surgical planning. However, brain deformation problems, known as brain shift, occur during surgery, resulting in discrepancies from the preoperative surgical plan. Deviations from the surgical plan due to brain shift are a life-threatening problem as they reduce the success rate of surgery. Brain shifts have not yet been elucidated, and DICOM data acquired from MRIs and CTs for surgical planning remain stored and archived in hospital information centers. Here, it is planned to extract the physical parameters of the brain model from a large amount of brain deformation data using pre- and post-operative brain DICOM pairs, which are stored in large quantities in hospitals and discarded after a particular time. This study investigates the optimization of parameters in the brain shift detection algorithm. © 2024 ACM.

With the rapid growth of internet usage,a new situation has been created that enables practicing *** has increased over the past decade,and it has the same adverse effects as face-to-face bullying,like anger,sadness,anxiety,and *** the anonymity people get on the internet,they tend to bemore aggressive and express their emotions freely without considering the effects,which can be a reason for the increase in cyberbullying and it is the main motive behind the current *** study presents a thorough background of cyberbullying and the techniques used to collect,preprocess,and analyze the ***,a comprehensive review of the literature has been conducted to figure out research gaps and effective techniques and practices in cyberbullying detection in various languages,and it was deduced that there is significant room for improvement in the Arabic *** a result,the current study focuses on the investigation of shortlisted machine learning algorithms in natural language processing(NLP)for the classification of Arabic datasets duly collected from Twitter(also known as X).In this regard,support vector machine(SVM),Naive Bayes(NB),Random Forest(RF),Logistic regression(LR),Bootstrap aggregating(Bagging),Gradient Boosting(GBoost),Light Gradient Boosting Machine(LightGBM),Adaptive Boosting(AdaBoost),and eXtreme Gradient Boosting(XGBoost)were shortlisted and investigated due to their effectiveness in the similar ***,the scheme was evaluated by well-known performance measures like accuracy,precision,Recall,and ***,XGBoost exhibited the best performance with 89.95%accuracy,which is promising compared to the state-of-the-art.

The constant increase in traffic volume triggers the development of new network optimization methods. Machine learning techniques are one of the promising research directions, as they provide the necessary tools to improve network performance in various aspects. Furthermore, prediction-based algorithms are getting the attention of researchers to achieve more precise network operations. In this paper, we approach the traffic prediction problem in backbone optical networks. We propose a model based on the Voting Regressor, combining Random Forest and Linear Regression. We create two large semi-synthetic datasets with daily patterns of various popular network-based services and applications. Through broad numerical experiments, we show how the proposed approach outperforms the reference ones in different traffic profiles. © 2023 IEEE.

Reliable internet access is a key enabler for economic growth. Although the Philippine government launched initiatives to improve connectivity, connection speeds remained below the global average, especially for mobile networks. This paper presents Hotspotter, a system that aims to aid implementers and stakeholders in quantifying and addressing network coverage issues. Hotspotter is an incentivized crowdsensing system that collects, maps, and visualizes WiFi and cellular data to pinpoint hotspots and dead zones for the effective deployment and relocation of WiFi access points. A mobile application for Android was developed to facilitate data collection on geolocation, nearby WiFi access points, and connected cellular networks. The user interface visualizes the aggregated data in a hexagon-grid map. Fieldwork was conducted in two sitios of Barangay San Lorenzo, Norzagaray, Bulacan to stress-test the Hotspotter system in a Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Area (GIDA). It was found that 2G and 4G had the widest coverage and strongest signals overall, with modal signal strengths of 4.0 and 3.0, respectively. Being at the cutting edge, 5G was not yet supported. In the end, the mobile application's passive sensing, collecting, and caching of data successfully operated even in the most isolated areas without an internet connection. © 2024 IEEE.

Current methods in mapping the availability of WiFi networks, such as crowdsourcing platforms (e.g. Project BASS and CoverageMap) and dedicated wardriving, face limitations in terms of data recency, volume, and cost-effectiveness. Due to the downsides of both these methods, opportunistic wardriving is proposed which utilizes public utility vehicles (PUVs). This study investigates the feasibility of PUVs as potential wardriving vehicles for opportunistic coverage mapping. This method is cost-efficient and removes the problem of data recency because of its continuous daily trips. The findings suggest that opportunistic wardriving with PUVs is viable for wardriving with its capability to detect a high volume of access points (APs). Multiple runs within the University of the Philippines Diliman campus showed the PUVs’ effectiveness in detecting a significant number of APs, with higher success rates at closer distances. Comparatively, warwalking detected fewer APs, but there was a significant overlap between the methods. The study also highlighted significant differences in detected AP types, with wardriving finding more mobile hotspots and miscellaneous devices than warwalking. Overall, the results underline the effectiveness of PUVs in providing extensive WiFi coverage data and further enhancements to the detection system could optimize the approach. ©2024 IEEE.

Processing non-stationary data streams has gained a significant research interest in the recent years. Most of the current state-of-the-art approaches in the literature exhibit hybrid solutions based on an ensemble learning paradigm, extending its parallel architecture with a drift detector. Such integrated mechanism of concept drift detection often relies on the metadescription of incoming data. The article presents a proposition of a novel hybrid classifier - the Metafeature Concept Selector. The method employs the analysis of statistical metafeatures calculated on subsequent data batches to identify the currently processed concept. The work is concluded with an extensive experimental analysis of synthetic data streams with recurrent concepts, various dimensionality and various concept change frequencies, showing that the proposed approach brings improvement when integrated with state-of-the-art base incremental learners. © 2024 IEEE.

Researchers have recently created several deep learning strategies for various tasks, and facial recognition has made remarkable progress in employing these techniques. Face recognition is a noncontact, nonobligatory, acceptable, and harmonious biometric recognition method with a promising national and social security future. The purpose of this paper is to improve the existing face recognition algorithm, investigate extensive data-driven face recognition methods, and propose a unique automated face recognition methodology based on generative adversarial networks (GANs) and the center symmetric multivariable local binary pattern (CS-MLBP). To begin, this paper employs the center symmetric multivariant local binary pattern (CS-MLBP) algorithm to extract the texture features of the face, addressing the issue that C2DPCA (column-based two-dimensional principle component analysis) does an excellent job of removing the global characteristics of the face but struggles to process the local features of the face under large samples. The extracted texture features are combined with the international features retrieved using C2DPCA to generate a multifeatured face. The proposed method, GAN-CS-MLBP, syndicates the power of GAN with the robustness of CS-MLBP, resulting in an accurate and efficient face recognition system. Deep learning algorithms, mainly neural networks, automatically extract discriminative properties from facial images. The learned features capture low-level information and high-level meanings, permitting the model to distinguish among dissimilar persons more successfully. To assess the proposed technique’s GAN-CS-MLBP performance, extensive experiments are performed on benchmark face recognition datasets such as LFW, YTF, and CASIA-WebFace. Giving to the findings, our method exceeds state-of-the-art facial recognition systems in terms of recognition accuracy and resilience. Brain tumor is the most serious and deadly disease, and it is formed due to abnormal cell production. There are two different sorts of tumors including benign (non-cancerous) and malignant (cancerous), and the third level of a brain tumor is cancerous, which is a highly deadly form of cancer. Detecting brain tumors early is crucial for accurate diagnosis and efficient treatment planning. Although numerous techniques are established, the prediction techniques are time-consuming, have higher computational complexity, prone to overfitting, and have limited accuracy. Thus we proposed an Attention Bi-directional Gated Recurrent Unit Ensemble Support Vector Machine (ABES model) for detecting brain tumors. Here, the Bi-GRU layer learns the most important context information for every image. The attention layer also uses the attention mechanism to assign weights to each Bi-GRU layer output. The ensemble SVM classifier performs the categorization of brain tumors. Then, the training set is used to train the Attention BiGRU model and Ensemble SVM classifiers. The ABES classifier weights are optimized by utilizing the improved whale optimization algorithm. To demonstrate the efficiency of our proposed method, we compare it to four existing methods including Fully Automatic Heterogeneous Segmentation-based Support Vector Machine, Whale Harris Hawks Optimization-based Deep Learning, Machine learning-based back propagation neural networks, and Deep Convolutional Neural Network. Also, the ABES model is validated using the MRI dataset and the Figshare brain tumor dataset. Accuracy, precision, specificity, and sensitivity are the performance metrics used to evaluate classification performance, which achieves 97.2% accuracy, 98.61% Precision, 96.48% Specificity, and 97.34% Sensitivity, respectively. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.
